A big shout out to my friend Dialga305 for helping to research this beast of a video. Without him the manufacturer's explained series wouldn't be possible.
Their custom coasters for Disney are really not bad. I always assumed the Arrow heritage of their designs was one of the reasons Disney chose them, since Arrow had been their go-to coaster manufacturer previously--and of course Arrow had a similar reputation for roughness and for cranking out cookie-cutter rides. (But for the family coaster under construction at Hollywood Studios, Disney went with Mack--a major departure.)
As a "coaster vlog" fan without a lot of knowledge of the history of coaster manufacturers, and having heard the name Vekoma so often, this video really brought things together for me. Subscribed! Looking forward to more!
@@thomaslawrence1726 I would say it's mostly because of the track design. While sturdy, it's not really known for a flexible track design. autoCAD wasn't a thing back then either, which made making smooth transitions really difficult since all track pieces were made piece by piece. Pretty comparable to the well known RCT series (minus using the PC of course) So yeah, that results in a rough ride which is kinda part of their charm imo.
Some of that hate is undeserved, too. Sure, SLCs are pretty bad (apart from Fly the Great Nor'Easter which has been reworked to the point where it can be considered a "custom" SLC), Boomerangs are everywhere and are inconsistent across all installations (Flying Cobras and Speed of Sound are great but most of them are either mediocre or downright suck) and the standard layout Suspended Family Coaster earned its nickname "hang-n-bang" (custom SFCs like Freedom Flyer at Fun Spot Orlando seem to avoid this), but Invertigos were actually well received, their mine trains are amazing and two of the three Flying Dutchmen built were actually really good rides.
The hate is from vekoma stealing arrows designs for their own coasters that arrow never got compensated or credited. I still hate them I don't care if they have their own designs now it's still scummy what they did to arrow.

usually, I watch your videos for the editing since I already know most of the stuff about the topics of your videos. But I actually learned quite a bit from this one. Vekoma has an interesting history.
It’s good to see Vekoma trying something new and heading in a new direction. I’d like to see some of their new coaster models installed somewhere sometime soon.
At first i was concerned that you did vekoma as your first manufacturer explained, then i watched the video and wow. You did a fantastic job. I learned so much that i didn't know!
Definitely the best video you have ever made! Vekoma is such an interesting company. Their newer coasters look really awesome, I really hope they can bring some to the USA soon.
Indeed they are! No new standard sit-down roller coasters of the MK-1200 model have been built in a while. The Illusion coaster model is very unique; only 2 exist. Therefore, it wasn't necessary to include it within this video. It may gain its own video in the future, but that's unlikely.
Awesome video! Good editing, very informative and comprehensive explaining of this underrated manufacturer. Judging from the list of different video contributions for this episode, I assume the video sourcing and editing work must have been madness :o Lech Coaster is absolutely brillant btw, among the Top 10 coasters in Europe imo!
Thank you very much! The video was a bit of a mess to research. However, we should be more streamlined next time. Lech coaster does look like an awesome addition. I'd love to ride it! :)
Really great video! Interesting information and nice to listen to and watch. I wanna learn more about the history of amusement parks and rides, so I'm really looking forward to more videos in this series. Keep it up! :)
Vekoma used to be a pretty big curse when it came to ride experience, their latest models are like completely different, they are pretty comfortable and I believe that they have focused more on quality rather then quantity.
As a dutch person, with many vekoma coasters and other rides near me, I’ve gotten to experience them many times. Vekoma isn’t my most favorite manufacturer, but definitely in my top 5!
Great history video on one of my personal favourite coaster manufacturers, I can confirm from a recent trip to Poland that their new generation coasters (Space Warp & Bermuda Blitz) Formula & Lech are 2 of my favourite new coasters with Lech being a new top 5
Thanks Andy! Vekoma have really stepped up their game, the new stuff looks fantastic. I'm jealous you got the chance to ride those two, especially Lech, it looks to be a really great coaster! :)
It looks to be the best pure coaster they've created. I'm excited to see what Vekoma create in the near future. That is really cheap, I might look into it at some point, thanks for the info! :)

I didn't know Big Thunder Mountain was a vekoma, but I know figure it make sense given how unconfortable the ride is... it was recently reworked at Disneyland Paris, and yet this thing is still banging you around, and has incredibly noisy lifts.
Just to say, there is a vekoma slc that is *not* below the track where you sit. At Fantasy Island, Ingoldmells, there is a vekoma slc called millennium. It is above track where you sit, and it's *Amazing!*
This was actually super informative and with a bunch of info i never knew about. Im super glad they are trying to turns around all the bad opinions with their newer coasters. Yes they were bad, but its good they are trying to be much better. Also i freaking love the giant inverted boomerang at parque warner madrid. probably my favourite vekoma with vogel rok.
Because Vekoma was smart enough to invest in new technologies to help them build faster and gaining both the EU and the Asian market while Arrow Dynamics was busy creating special rides that costed way too much to be cloned. It's more than fair that Vekoma still exists. But who cares the original Arrow Dynamics builders went on to other companies to create other, better rides than Arrow Dynamics ever could.
Just watched your B&M, Gerstlauer and Vekoma Explained series! These are fantastic!! I have subscribed and hope to see a Intamin and Mack Rides episodes in the future!
A good watch, enjoyed hearing about their history some of which I didn't know about. Vekoma are unfairly treated in the coaster community for their older projects IMO.
Their newer rides definitely seem more exciting than B&M coasters. Especially Lech Coaster. That just looks insane! I can't wait for those two Firestorm coasters to open up.
Robin Hood is getting rmc'd for 2019 and im very excited. Also, the new vekomas actually look great. Cant wait to see the flying coaster they are building for phantasialand. I reckon vekoma is going to make a big comeback in terms of reputation, and I believe we are going to be seeing vekoma hypers coming to european parks soon.
They definitely stole Arrows track design. They were supposed to have a partnership with Arrow, Arrow gave them all of the design, Vekoma bailed. Broken agreement - stolen.
COASTER BOT ive actually ridden a invertigo at Dorney Park called stinger. Tragically it has been removed and im not very happy with them for doing that. Thanks alot Dorney!

Some of vekoma/arrow's old coasters do get "renovations" which results in new trains [i.e Flying Cobras at Carowinds] equaling in a smoother ride. Haven't been on one yet with the updated/new trains, but planning. :)
What does Vekoma exactly do when it came to building Wildfire with Rocky Mountain Construction? You said they can sell RMC coastersin Europe and Asia, but in what way do they play a role?
Is the 1200 in MK1200 really the distance between the cross ties? I thought it's the distance between the two rails... Their mine trains were called MK900M (which makes sense as the tracks are narrower), and they also had a MK900 model (not built very often, but the former "Space Center" at Phantasialand or "Vogel Rok" at Efteling are examples here. There are a couple more that you skipped, the MK600 and a few one-offs. ;-)
I love the corcscrew with bayerncurve Layout! too sad all of them are much too far away now - thank you for using the "Super Wirbel" to show that Layout, only cryed for like 5 seconds :)
The SLC is not suspended but actually inverted coaster. A suspended coaster would have seats that can swing freely. Their family suspended coaster is a suspended coaster but the slc is not as you can not have inversions on a suspended coaster.
I learned so much from this video, and those Dutch pronunciations were too good. It's super cool to hear that Vekoma was one of the first manufacturers to use AutoCAD.
A big shout out to my friend Dialga305 for helping to research this beast of a video. Without him the manufacturer's explained series wouldn't be possible.

Vekoma isn't bad anymore. I would like to see them build some more roller coasters in the United States with the new track design. Who agrees?
I do agree :) Rode Lech Coaster and F1, both are very smooth and exciting. I think new Vekoma is more than ready to make a hit in the US!
I do! :)

YES! I was really hoping either Knotts or California's Great America would build a new Vekoma coaster this year but I think it is highly unlikely. : (

Thanks! I've been taught by the best ;)
As for the new Vekoma coasters, I rode Formula 1 at Energylandia and it's absolutely amazing, by far the best Vekoma I've been on!
That's really awesome to hear, I look forward to Vekoma's future! :)
Vekoma's future is bright :)
No doubt about that :)
I had no idea Vekoma had such a large presence at Disney World. I thought the Aerosmith Rollercoaster was the only one
The new Tron and Guardians coaster are gonna be Vekomas as well.

I think it’s the trains as the wheel assemblies don’t have much give.

Vekoma is really underrated for some reason. They've been getting progressively better over time.
I definitely agree. Their newer rides have been fantastic :)
I want Taylor Bybee to ride Lech coaster, because he hates Vekoma, so I want to see what his reaction to riding this would be like! ;D
It would be a very interesting response :)
And let him ride firestorm in vietnam too

Vekoma is pretty controversial with their track and trains. Sure, the SLC restraints are bulky, but there is at least a lot of padding.
ikr
Project 6 is absolutely wonderful so far!! Great video!
Thank you! :)
I love Vekoma. Idk why, but for some reason I their coasters have so much charme, especially the 80s and 90s rollercoasters.

Indeed they have. It's awesome that Vekoma kickstarted your enthusiasm towards roller coasters. I also look forward to the future Vekoma has. :)
When I was 15. I road the great Nor Easter in wildwood ( a SLC ) 15 times straight without getting off the ride.
“The boomerang has been a success” ya if only coaster enthusiast were as impresed

COASTER BOT do some defunct roller coasters explained (ex. Son of beast, Drachen Fire, The big Bad wolf) I think it would be really cool
I will consider doing some videos like this in the future. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

Yes! Finally a video about the best coaster manufacturer in the world!

Yes indeed, I think in a couple years Vekoma could be better than B&M
Their newer rides definitely seem more exciting than B&M coasters. Especially Lech Coaster. That just looks insane! I can't wait for those two Firestorm coasters to open up.

But with Rock 'N' Rollercoaster your ears hurt because you were rocking out to hard.
Some of vekoma/arrow's old coasters do get "renovations" which results in new trains [i.e Flying Cobras at Carowinds] equaling in a smoother ride. Haven't been on one yet with the updated/new trains, but planning. :)
Indeed. They do improve the ride by a considerable amount, but I've found that they still retain their rough transitions. :)
Their old work includes some of the most painful coasters I’ve experienced. Their new rides look amazing though, so I won’t write them off just yet.
Great video! Keep up the good work Harry! :D
Thank you! There's a lot more to come in the future. :)
And here I am watching this video, 2 weeks after I rode Hals über Kopf, the first Vekoma STC which is absolutely amazing.
Wow. This video is really awesome and I hope you do a ton more.
Thank you! There's more to come in the future, don't worry :)
Great (and informative) video!
Thank you, especially for allowing me to use some of your footage for this video. :)
What does Vekoma exactly do when it came to building Wildfire with Rocky Mountain Construction? You said they can sell RMC coastersin Europe and Asia, but in what way do they play a role?
They aid in the construct of the ride on site, and also help to sell the rides to the parks.
I wonder what would happen to cedar point if they removed corkscrew and replaced it with at SLC
As a fabricator in structural engineering I would one day love to work on these iconic coasters . Great video thanks
Same! Thanks for watching :)
As a Dutchman I'm proud of this company.
As you should be!
There are a couple more that you skipped, the MK600 and a few one-offs. ;-)
Is the Loch Ness Monster at Busch Gardens a Vekoma?
That was built by Arrow Dynamics :)
Thank you!@@coasterbot
I love the corcscrew with bayerncurve Layout! too sad all of them are much too far away now - thank you for using the "Super Wirbel" to show that Layout, only cryed for like 5 seconds :)
Honestly had no idea how many different models they had...great video!
This video only scratched the surface of their models. Vekoma has many more models that have been produced over their life time. :)
That's awesome to hear, and thank you about my rubbish Dutch! ;)
