Aunty Pat just spoke around the bush. Be direct with answer and let us know what action you are going to take. Not this "by the way" we will take it up with cape town authorities. Let us local citizens enjoy tourist attractions at local prices.
Aunty Pat you said a mouthful but nothing that will appease the forever marginalised Western Cape inhabitants.. Are you suggesting we abandon the City so foreigners enjoy our hotspots to align the COCT and it’s privileged locals deep pockets even more..
Pat is a waste of tax payer money she failed in everything she ever did under the ANC banner so please don’t take her serious some people who call themselves politicians just don’t know when to call it a day she is one of them
She is absolutely 100% right. I just got back from Europe (Austria) and have been to a few countries around Europe. Believe me, Europeans travelling to South Africa for any holiday it's more than affordable for them. The entire South Africa is a luxury for them holidaying, especially in Cape Town with its beauty. So Europe, for one, can not complain about prices in SA.
It's the best run city, because it's a holiday destination with a constant influx of tourism money. Not the other way around. So it needs to be maintained to keep that tourism money coming in.
@@carl4017 Whether Cape Town is the best run city or not.. Tourism will always boom because of it natural beauty.. Don’t get it twisted.. Take Rio de Janeiro, dangerous city but tourism is booming.. l should know l love Brasil..
@thatfirstone 😂 nice try, but it doesn’t work that way around. People will not come visit a shith@le. Cape town’s always been the best run city long before the influx of international tourists
@luckyngcobo6073 no you are wrong, it’s also very much about how they run it. Look at Durban for instance, stunning beaches, great weather, warm sea water, but they get very little international tourist compared to cape town. Why?
In my view Cape Town authorities have managed to make their city .safer for the tourists .Tourists are prepared to pay to dollar for security . I don’t know whether. the same can be said for other cities
Tourism is not about international visitors only. It must able to accommodate also locals. This is the reasons Spanish people were striking says they don't want visitors.
@luckyngcobo6073 European countries don’t need the tourist dollars like SA need it. Their GDP are large and unemployment rate is close to zero. There are more than enough affordable holiday options in the western cape for locals.
The prices are shocking not only for locals but for internationals, "Cape Point" and "Simons Town" penguins. Even my family member from overseas visited. I was shocked and how restaurant workers higher up their tips suddenly.

There are enough places to visit if you have a tight budget. Rich people pay for better accommodation and tours because they can. It is good for the economy and all people of Cape Town. Leave them alone Tannie Pat. You will just f...k it up as always.
Cape Town has become UNAFFORDABLE for SA citizens! Why dont you just rename it "Monaco no2"😡!!! The greed, especially with airbnb hosts are insane! SO much for letting mere salary earning citizens enjoy our country!....
Apart from the weather conditions, the inflated rates charged for accommodation is the main cause of the problem. Rich people who are mad charging such prices which are ridiculous and a shock to tourists, shocking how money became their god!

So local Capetonians, according to her explaination, must be happy that CT is a vacation destination to global travellers and that there's been a 10% increase in revenue compared to November 2023? Really??? Is she saying locals must make way for tourists who will render buckets of cash, while themselves not being able to afford daily expenses due to inflating costs this season? Maybe she misunderstood..... Especially if her answer is that locals should Themselves get out of town and visit dorpies instead of following their traditional holiday plans with friends and families. Really???? Locals should get out of dodge to make space for tourists to pour money through fat funels because the rand is so weak their currency can afford R10 000 per night stays in hotels! Is she telling locals to book AirBnB's outside of the city so that those property owners can also profit to the max, just like the hotel owners restaurants owners, franchise supermarket owners and ALL other businesses do during the season 🤔 😮 Is this lady for real??? How do locals afford their vacation? How do they get to enjoy the city? How do locals benefit? The city is overrun with visitors and tourists!! The standard of service and quality of stay is shamefully low while business and property owners line their bulging bank accounts hand over fist. Basic things, like cleaning up the V&A waterfront for instance, is simply too much. The place reeks while walking around fighting your way through masses and hoards, the surfaces of everything is sticky and screaming for disinfectant!! The City is Not being taken Care of and Neither are its Locals, thats pretty clear from this report. Locals must vacate the city to make space for visitors with deep pockets, is that really her answer? She Doesn't care about Local Cape Town people 😢😮 wow... just WOW... Sies on her !!!
I hope the property rates and tax equals the rates charged for places to stay. Western Cape government can double their income by adjusting rates and taxes accordingly.

A lot of tourists visit townships. Soweto, kwamashu etc...because they've done their research & want to see reality & not Sandton or Umhlanga. They are the minority though. I myself, as a traveller enjoy going to villages or poor areas in other countries when I'm outside Mzansi.
I don't know what's going on in Durban all these years when the tourism was booming, all these years the beaches were overcrowded and somehow the prices didn't go up and lower the crowds to manageable rates.
