Wow, this channel is amazing. More of these lessons with fingerings please. This is actually what beginners need! More classic tunes like this pleeeeeeeeease!
Also, if you could show the musical notation as well as the fingering that would be just perfect. On screen would be best if there is room, otherwise a pdf link to the notation? Whatever you can do would be great! Thanks )
Just joined band in middle school. I got a saxophone that used to be my brother's from about 5 years ago untouched. He gave me it since he didn't use it anymore and now I'm learning to play saxophone and I'm watching your videos and subscribing. Keep up the good work!
In band we just started actually playing but, I get nervous and can't calm myself down and I feel nauseous and when I have to play I feel lightheaded because I feel like I'm out of breath almost to the point to where I don't want to be in band anymore. At home however, I play normally. Any suggestions?
+TheMcCuber work on your breathing a lot, because if you feel light headed in middle school band then you'll just pass out in highschool. Try breathing in for as many counts as you can and then breath out for the same amount of counts you've breathed out and make sure when you breath out all the air is out of your lungs. There's more explained versions of mine on UA-cam.
Take Five is also a pun on the common expression “Take Five !” meaning also “ Let’s take a 5 minute break ! Would sound much better if you started on the higher F# because by starting on low bottom C you don’t achieve any comparable tongueing to Desmond’ s composition. The first 45 rpm disc is still the 45 disc with highest number of sales ever !
I just couldn't be more grateful! Thank you so much. Playing the sax had been my life long dream (for over 25 years now), and just a week ago I had the chance to finally buy one :)This is the first song I am learning and I already got the first part! I couldn't be happier. Thanks! Your videos are awesome.
"The melody is not that hard, you will be able to get that pretty soon if you are a BEGINNER"...Suuuuure, hahahaha it's NOT HARD at all. I don't think this is a beginner's song.
@@williambeldamlkke8054 No nat at first of course :) But that was nog my goal back then. I just wanted to be able to play it myself. And boy was I excited when I made it happen :)
At 4:20, when Florian begins the third part, (part B to me), though the fingering chart shows it is played in the third register, he actually plays it in the second register. In the first part, at 2:00, the second lead in note is a C without the octave key. At 4:20, the first note is a third register C note with the octave key pressed. Compare the two C's and you will find he plays bothin register two, in both parts. Am I complaining? Not in the least, Florian has showed me a good way to play Take Five. For a novice like me, the third register is rather hard to play. Thanks Florian!
I remember when i was trying to learn how to play a note on my sax in beginners just two years ago and i tried to play this song as well. Now, I can play this song with a breeze
Something is not quite right for the Alto Sax fingering in part 2 (4:21 - 4:31), as every note shown on the alto chart indicates it is in the upper octave, but this does not sound right. Many of the notes should be in the lower octave.
Thank you very much for this tutorial! Is there any chance you could provide the notes for all of this? Following the fingering chart can be very very tricky, especially in the fast bits.
I agree with this comment... although it is a very valuable and needed tutorial I am struggling to keep up with the speed and noting the notes down. It would be helpful if notes could be provided... Thanks
please could you show me how to play that soul classic by marvin gaye " lets get it on " i would love to be able to play it on my alto i am self taught and i cant read sheet music iv heard it played on the sax but i just cant grasp or hear which notes to play , Kind regards
If you are interested in playing sax the best results that ive had was by using the Takiras Music Method (just google it) definately the most helpful method i've followed.
As a beginner I find this to be a very good and valuable tutorial; but I must say that I am struggling to keep up with the speed that the notes are being displayed; therefore, would it be possible for you to provide the notes to this music piece. Thanks in advance...
Learning from the old 50's and 60's record payers, which were never on key, myself and other sax players in New Orleans played this in the key of Em concert.
HelloSaxophone thanks for the take five lesson it is broken down slowly and is easy to follow for slow learners like me keep posting lessons thanks.pete spain
Hi Florian, I have bought your begginers playing sax guide in your Hello Sax site but until now do not received the link to download it. Please send it to my email. thanks
I have no idea why, but my sax I’m attempting to do this with isn’t working well. It’s a Selmer Bundy II I’m not even sure if it’s an alto or a tenor at this point, because these fingerings don’t seem to work. Would you happen to have a solution?
Just started playing the Alto Sax a couple months ago and not only are your comments helpful on this video but the "10 Bad Habits for Beginners" was as well. Thanks for the tips, they are very much appreciated.
I played for a while but quit, one of my biggest problems, im an old fart, cant remember anything, so trying to learn the scales and read at the same time, seems i forgot the next day, on your scale book u just have the scales, and finger placings, should i just learn that for now, or stick with the reading scale charts or what do you suggest, thanks
The fourth and eighth notes in the first phrase, the b flat. Is the chart fingering for Tenor correct in the video? I cannot get this combo of keys to play anything that sounds correct here, and you use different fingerings for the same note elsewhere in the melody?

the positioning of your mouth piece sharpens or flattens a note. If it is flat, try pushing it further down the cork. Use a tuner app from android store, (not sure about iphone) to get the exact tone. Hope that helps
Hi Florian, juat a quick question. may seem stupid but i'm not even beginner, so i ask: what happens if i play the alto notes on a tenor sax or upside down ? Thanks a lot !
+Andrei Tncn haha, Wel if you play them on the Tenor it will sound just fin if you use the tenor charts in the video :). Up-side down playing... I've never seen anybody achieve that ;)
sorry to be pedantic, and perhaps it's been pointed out before but in the 'B' section in the 4th bar there is a chromatic section you seem to be missing. But thank you for the lesson.

We actually have done many breathing practices in band and now I can play great. I'm also going to have my first concert next week.
