I ordered it straight from thrill jockey on like June 13th and it came two days later in the mail weeks before it's even supposed to come out.
That's how awesome their record label is.
The album itself is premium Tortoise. Way amazing.
the new album is just as good as the rest. i never understood why i loved these guys that much until i saw this vid. now i see that they and the people they work with try to see the surrounding environment in different ways just like architects do.

Videos, music, films... that have this evocative quality have come to dominate my interest over the 12 years since the relevant post. Allowing moments or interludes where we can breathe, instead of attempting to cram every moment with eye/ear candy, makes for a much deeper and more interactive experience.

I went to Elliott school (hot chip, xx, fridge), and one of the members of fridge always mentioned the bands he listened to. I was always into mainstream rock bands at the time, the shit you heard on the radio (but it was the 90s so it was pretty great stuff considering the real shit you hear now). Anyway, my mate from fridge always mentioned 3 bands: sonic youth, UI, tortoise...I listened to a few tracks he played from all those bands and I thought ok, what is this supposed to be??
it's only now, after my music journey has gone all over the shop away from the mainstream, and I hear this and realise, fuck me my mate was so bloody cool!!

I am reasonably sure this is San Francisco, judging by all the electrical muni lines in the air and by a few of the buildings I can recognize. Also, there's a shot where he's on a waterfront, and at 1:13 you can see him ride up a relatively steep road, both hallmarks of sf. They do a pretty good job of avoiding landmarks though
