You know, the more you listen to this song, the more the off-beats and funky tempo shifts start sounding completely normal. It's honestly one of the most brilliant songs I've ever heard
The offset in terms the off beat made me feel like I’m not sober or something at first. Boy is it wonderful of a sound now. Love this song so so so much.
The song starts off so discordant and chaotic with all of the stray notes in the guitar and bass, but it gradually pulls itself together. It never quite becomes a perfectly comfortable melody, but the chorus has a slight pop sensibility that adds a bit of satisfaction where it is needed most. It's such a strange feeling to listen to, a satisfaction that is delivered 90% but leaving you wanting more. I really, really like this song.
This is why I love this album. I was mind blown by its sound the first couple of times I listen to it... its such a fascinanting album. They went ahead at exploring new sounds, and I was very comfortable with all the songs in the first listens. This is my fav album from theirs, right after Frengers.
I really wish Rick Beato would do a "What Makes This Song Great?" video for this one. That heavy syncopation and dissonance has always been what makes Bo such a unique talent.
I discovered this band when I was 17.... I’m 27 now. Holy shit. I’m just now realizing how much they influenced my music taste today and how ahead of their time they were (are). I’ll always love Mew💕
For some weird reason I'm having a 2009 flashback, clicked on about 5 random songs, then realized they were all the same year. Culminating with this absolute masterpiece..
I dont know about you guys, but this song... the rythm, the guitar.. the vid!! THEY'RE ALL SOOO FREAKING AWESOME!!!! Relaxing, but still inviting you to scream!!! Its just unique!! I love it!!!! IT DESERVES SOOOOOOO MANY MORE VIEWS!!! C'MON PEOPLE!!! LETS SHOW THE WORLD WHAT REAL MUSIC IS LIKE!!!!!
Mew is one of the best bands to come from the nordic countries (although Sigur Ros and Kent are up there too ). I love their unique riffs, beautiful melodies and their rythmic creativity while still maintaining instant catchiness in their songs. I think how they treat rythms (quirky beats and tiny details to keep the beat more surprising) sets them apart from their contemporaries who are more straight forward.
It took me 8 years to find this song again. I saw them live once years ago and couldn’t remember the song name and I finally found them by looking up the venue’s concert history lmao. I’m so glad I did, this song is transcendent 🫶🏼
I'm totally agree with you. i've been listening to Mew for about 4-5 years (now i'm 17), i definitely think they deserves all the credit. i'm glad there are still some people who appreciate them and keep supporting them up until now, even though it's not as big as mainstream artists.
This simply knocked all of me down. What a daring and stimulating composition. Just when I thought that the song and Mew could not soar to any other colourful places, off they went. 🌻
i know the intro can sound like its in an odd timing but i promises you its in 4/4 me and my drummer dissected it. the guitar and bass drum come in on the and of 1 for the first measure then just the one on the second measure then leave that pause when it repeats the third measure landing on the and of one again. they really set this up to sound like its odd with the guitars curt sliding and random bass drum hits but its just 4/4 absolutely amazing piece. one of my all time favorites.
In which we make sure no one got hurt Oh Anna and Sammy too What is it that you do? You gotta get back up yourself We know so much So much we do (No answer) In a word you were told That it'd fix your shaky home And what got made Was broken too Just a field with you Switching seats with you Tears us apart (I don't want it to) Some peculiar fix The two of us Counting us out (I don't want it to) (Overnight, turned all grey) What is it that you do? You gotta get back up yourself We know so much So much we do (No answer) In a word you were told That it'd fix your shaky home And what got made Was broken too Just a field with you Switching seats with you Tears us apart (I don't want it to) Some peculiar fix The two of us Counting us out (I don't want it to) Just a creed with you Switching seats with you Tears us apart (I don't want it to) What are we going to do? I'd really like it if you Turned out the lights as we planned It's gonna hurt when we land (I don't want it to) Why did you go? Lots of different reasons So many, you can't even count You think it's right Jumping off the seesaw Or do you just want it to be?
Damn this song definitely sounded like 7/4 timing for me for awhile, but now I hear it at 4/4 timing with really interesting syncopation. Damn Mew never disappoints.
mew is dissonant, and that's why they're one of my favorite bands. they rarely write their songs around simple major chord progressions like most bands....they instead use unresolved, jazzier chords than the norm, more like 'shoegaze' bands than pop bands, and that's largely why their music sounds so unique and non-generic. listen to the progression in the chorus of 156. i love chords like that but 'mainstream' listeners generally don't.
Such a great song, I remember finding it when it had around 600 likes. It looks like its getting pretty popular. As it should! its great song and more people should enjoy this.
4:56 Uno de mis videos favoritos por siempre, tiene lo que mas amo la musica y la naturaleza como nos rodea y ni nos damos cuenta que todo esta conectado. Me acuerdo de mis dias en la universidad, te amo Mew.
so fucking UNORTHODOX!.. i mean the beat, the timing, the riffs,THE VOICE,the ART of their MUSIC,oooh!..so magical, specially when your high,it makes you Imagine fantasy stuff,.Im just soaring right now..I swear! ...Its so beautiful but yet so rare, you know.. its like our own hidden gem.lets keep this song a secret!! Please.for MUSIC SAKE!
In an interview a while ago they mentioned looking through an English dictionary early on and finding the word "Mew" referring to the sound a cat makes. They said something about thinking the word was very interesting because it was "sharp at the beginning, soft in the middle and sharp again at the end." Something like that.
Maybe!! I dont know Yet! But perhaphs its about this alienated "someone" finding another someone right? I mean almost everything Is 'bout finding love in here
You know, the more you listen to this song, the more the off-beats and funky tempo shifts start sounding completely normal. It's honestly one of the most brilliant songs I've ever heard
Must’ve listened to this song a lot
The offset in terms the off beat made me feel like I’m not sober or something at first. Boy is it wonderful of a sound now. Love this song so so so much.
I hope you still feel this way 10 years later, I sure as hell do!
This is what makes mew, mew - absolutely stunning arrangements and timing, it's perfection
I was just wondering if Bo is influenced by Mark Ribot at all...longshot and forgot to ask when we met :(
I'm Japanese, MEW's music is great ! I wonder why it hasn't become more famous.
Totally. I can't believe I never heard them before because this slaps
I blame Taylor Swift
Because them normies prefer things that can be more easily consumed man.
It can be said for lot of things, not only music.
Porque Mew no es para cualquiera. Saludos desde México 😊
👌

soulbend yep, you captured this song
soulbend so I do I very much agreeD:

They went ahead at exploring new sounds, and I was very comfortable with all the songs in the first listens. This is my fav album from theirs, right after Frengers.
the riffs have a King Crimson/Robert Fripp element that I never used to notice, but it seems pretty clear now many years later.
I really wish Rick Beato would do a "What Makes This Song Great?" video for this one. That heavy syncopation and dissonance has always been what makes Bo such a unique talent.
I loved this in 2008 or 2009. I still love it now, nothing else sounds like it. Mew is such a great band, love them so much!
still big, for sure
This songs reminds me a better time, when everything was simpler. I used to close my eyes and relaxing so easily..... what a good times....
i feel it too. went from heavy metal to indie and loved them from the first sounds.
I discovered this band when I was 17.... I’m 27 now. Holy shit. I’m just now realizing how much they influenced my music taste today and how ahead of their time they were (are). I’ll always love Mew💕
Not sure about ahead of their time but they are pretty cool
Lucky you
Same, I'm 29

I also discovered them when I was 17. I'm 22
this may possibly be one of my favorite songs of all time. i never get tired of it.

Feels!! this was the first song i've heard of them and none understood how much i liked this tune.
We still think you’re weird, but you have a great taste in music😉
Me too. Remind me when I was junior high school listen radiohead's hail to the thief album
Everybody you knew then sucked
Dude!! Me too 😂
Favorite song of 2009 and still one of the best I've ever heard.
I never get tired of this song, always is like the first time.
For some weird reason I'm having a 2009 flashback, clicked on about 5 random songs, then realized they were all the same year. Culminating with this absolute masterpiece..
I found this on a random channel at 3:30 am when i couldn't sleep. Best 5 minutes of my life, i cant explain what i felt.
I dont know about you guys, but this song... the rythm, the guitar.. the vid!! THEY'RE ALL SOOO FREAKING AWESOME!!!!

This is one of my all-time favorite tunes.

The whole album it`s hard to hear and swallow the first time, but the second time... my God... It`s a masterpiece!!
Years nad years later here we still all. Such an incredible song (and video)
Years and years later this song strikes such a nerve and hits so hard 😢
One of the greatest songs ever created. Not even exaggerating
This is 2020, and they sound amazing.
This band is creative AF.
Love Mew!
This is the first Mew song I know and I'm liking it so much. Probably should check out more of them:)
I’m in love with the guitar but the drums changed my life

No words can describe how great it feels listening to this...
This song brings me back

For everybody just discovering Mew, be sure to check out "Hawaii" song from the same album as this gem. It's at the same level of awesome!
thanks!

ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS OF ALL TIME
This was the first song I ever listened to high. Pretty terrific if you ask me.
In which we make sure no one got hurt
Oh Anna and Sammy too

The two of us
Counting us out
(I don't want it to)

I'd really like it if you
Turned out the lights as we planned
It's gonna hurt when we land
(I don't want it to)
Why did you go?
Lots of different reasons
So many, you can't even count
You think it's right
Jumping off the seesaw
Or do you just want it to be?
Is there anybody out there ?

The drums are just sublime!
Holy crap, where have I been?! I'm a big Tool fan, so this is right the hell up my alley of fun music. Man that have a lot going on. Love this.
Damn this song definitely sounded like 7/4 timing for me for awhile, but now I hear it at 4/4 timing with really interesting syncopation. Damn Mew never disappoints.
"I hear it at 4/4 timing with really interesting syncopation. Damn Mew never disappoints." Your right that is what I here too. Very interesting.

This song is just so beautiful!!
The version of "Palace Players" in this video is slowed down (and in a slightly different key) than the original album mix. Anyone know why?
I don't know why, but it IRKS ME
This needs more views! MEW

Time passes and this song does not lose his punch

Great freaking band. Too bad I will probably never see them live. Sending big Mew love from southern Arizona.
I've just spent 2 whole days trying to remember this song, just based on the first riff and a black cube... 😂
This song is worth remembering
Just hear it again and again, then you will never stop listen this :D :D
I remember 10 years ago, when I listened to this song and I cared less about things. :/
yep, that seems to happen (ditto).
I love this. It's like... elf rock.
Heartwarming

Beautiful song
Genious piece of music...
i wish i could reset my memory.. i want that feeling of "holy moly, the drums aren't random at all!" back..
Lo que alguna vez me mostro MTV como amaba estos sonidos raros y safados
i love this vid! it goes so well with the song!
I love Mew. They changed my perspective on music, what it means, what it is. May Mew live on in glory.
I absolutly love this song

My friend Stephanie introduced me to this band!!! :D
Absolute peak Mew. After nearly single-handedly reviving prog, they go beyond and release this magnum opus.
Still love them to bits, and can't wait for the new material this year.
amo! esta canción! me trae tantos buenos recuerdos desde la primera ocasión que la escuche!
so fucking UNORTHODOX!..
i mean the beat, the timing, the riffs,THE VOICE,the ART of their MUSIC,oooh!..so magical, specially when your high,it makes you Imagine fantasy stuff,.Im just soaring right now..I swear!

its like our own hidden gem.lets keep this song a secret!! Please.for MUSIC SAKE!
The guitar riff is AWESOME😮😮😮
Awesome Boys . Thank Uuuuu. COSMIN . ❤❤😂😂
This song is like the greatest dream you've ever had, but you remember it afterwards.
Pokemon was inspired by Mew, so they decided to name the most powerful pokemon after this band, whose unique dreamy sound reminds me of Mew´s yell
no way
Fanchus mew is big in Japan, so it might be true but i doubt it xD
Pokémon is originally from Japan right?
