Oh and a P.S. Wesley was right - as Picard was doing exactly what he was criticising others for doing in the Briar Patch. He was being a monsterous Hypocrite - But I like that about Picard and Sisko that they are not perfect that they are sometimes horribly even monstrously wrong - makes them feel more real perhaps. Picard and Sisko rarely broke their own character though (unlike loopy Janeway - or delusional incompetent Archer). Picard was quite crappy with how he treated Ro Laren too. He was also outrageous in his solution for the Space Irish & the Clones too. (interesting to note that the times Picard is his most - well "Pompous" is in Episodes Jeri Taylor was involved with.
Picard is a man of conviction - but such people can lead people over a cliff Wesley was doing to him what he was doing to the Drumhead Judge - questioning his duty and honour and principles - not to the rules alone but to the principles that lie behind a piece of cloth. Time only proved Sisko & Picard even more Wrong too and those who stood against them more right (but that is why the Maquis were brushed aside as a plot point I expect - as it was clear Starfleet was acting like a Police state and a Bully).
Anyway Movie Picard is nothing like TV Picard anyway.

Picard is a principled man, yes. And that core of solid convictions can make him *appear* rigid - I think Q's word was "stodgy" (Hide & Q). But this core is what helped guide him toward making not just highly competent decisions as captain but long-lasting ones that had positive repercussions well beyond his immediate choices. That willingness to see the long-term and make decisions that aren't just based on a cost-benefit analysis of what will benefit "me and my crew" - i.e., keep us alive - is, I'd argue, what separated him from more mundane captains of the fleet, and, in part, what attracted Q to continually show up on the Enterprise to, if you will, test and taunt Picard and his people. Will they keep to their standard, one set by their captain, or will they be the self-centered humans I (Q) know they can be?

Picards retied doing nothing when a time distortion comes by and wisks him away to a new dimension where a galaxy could use a person like Jean Luc and there is the show

I take the optimistic position that bringing Picard into the fold is Kurtzman way of extending the olive branch after a divisive Discovery season 1 response. Perhaps they plan to have a prime star trek and a gritty dark space adventure show to please all sectors of the fan base. My gut tells that CBS loves money and pays close attention to youtube and fan feedback --- they are not in the business of 'killing' a golden goose beloved franchise. It's not set in prime universe anyways (it just can't be) … … that's going to be a 'shocking' reveal later on down the road ---- Michael Burnham sacrifice ect ect ect temporal prime directive disaster ect ect ect …. plenty of ways to make it happen.

I wouldn't say The Disco crew (well the ones that actually talk in sentences) are interchangeable, I actually rather like Stamets and Tilly. I don't mind Saru either.
If I was to say I have an issue with the show it's it's patchy writing, oddly rendered specially effects, flip-flopping tone, and limited sets & locations and a general feel of a Bottle show.
But the main problem really is Burnham isn't able to support a show - with such poorly written characterisation and un-charismatic acting. If they move to an Ensemble cast model and shove Burnham back a few steps then I will be much more comfortable with the balance of the show.
As for the canon issues - lets just say that is a lost cause - I always considered it a pocket Universe and CBS is likely going to be arm twisted into admitting as much - even if they have tried to walk back what they said about Enterprise a decade or so ago.
I'm happy to put it in a box called "other" and judge it on it's own merits (as I also do with New Battlestar Galactica).
However the recent suggestion that CBS wants to quietly smother The actual Prime Universe is pretty disappointing - as it's going to be a long haul to try to get an audience for a few years at the cost of an audience that is potentially 50 years old. The reaction to a 'weird' sequel to TNG isn't going to be a positive - one I don't mind a show with Picard doing other things - so long as his journey is an interesting one, But it would be very odd if they did some of the more peculiar things that some have suggested to him.
If they start it off by saying he'd had more family die on him - i'd roll my eyes at the cynicism.
But lets just say I expect the Picard show to be disappointing - but if it's good then that would be a nice surprise.

If you insist. I had to stop watching STD because, although Saru was growing on me (he was the only character I got on with, OK maybe Tilly to some degree too), the rest of the show was too gut-wrenching to force myself to like something my heart just wasn't into. But I'm more concerned at what may possibly be done going forward to the rest of the Prime Universe, and, now, with Picard. They've already got their hands on Spock, and who knows what he'll morph into under their control.
