And they are BEAUTIFUL models even if I had some trouble putting a few of them together, notably the Branchwych because of how her little worm pet wraps around her body. The Treelord was probably the easiest of the models to build simply because his pieces were so huge.

The disciples of Tzeentch box is a great deal for thousand sons players. The sorcerer on disk can have a quick head-swap and become an exalted on disc. Minimal effort there. You've then got a 10 pack each of cultists, Tzaangor, and some demon allies. Nice. Adds some much needed life to the range honestly.
For Soulblight Gravelords, the battleforce is still out there and has skeletons, blood knights, bats, wolves, and a vengorian lord. You don't quite have the spearhead but it gets you the amazing skeleton and blood knight models and lets you get a preferred alternative vargheists for something nicer.
I've just done this! So long as you want everything, it's cheaper to get the battleforce and pick up the other bits than it is to get the Spearhead and go the other way.
The problem with the battleforce is that it's another Sampler Platter box for an army that's going to encourage you to get into One Thing. Once you pick which section of the army you like, some of the models in the battleforce are guaranteed to go to waste. More doesn't _always_ mean better!
I love that you guys are getting into AoS content! I used to watch a lot of your stuff when I was into 40k and still occasionally watched a video here and there since selling my 40k stuff and sticking to just AoS. I’m so excited to watch your new content for a game I still play haha
AoS is always such a crazy thing to me because as a 40K fan all I feel like I ever see about it is Stormcast and the occasional cities of sigmar model but then "oh by the way there's like 20 other factions that never get ANY publicity, and they're all cool as hell."
They want Stormcast to be Space Marines but they just don't have the same appeal. Marines work because they're basically a blank slate that you can add your own flavor to. The chapters do so much heavy lifting for pushing model sales. Stormcast just doesn't have that flexibility.
@RedGalbot I think that GW forgot that a lot of the fun of WHFB was ordinary men stopping the forces of hell with faith, steel, and gunpowder. Nobody wanted marines in their fantasy setting. Thank God the other new AoS factions were cooler.
>"oh by the way there's like 20 other factions that never get ANY publicity and they're cool as hell" how does that surprise you as a 40k fan lol the only faction that gets publicity there is the Imperium and 80% of even that is just space marines.
They do get attention, you’re just not paying much mind to what’s going on in campaign books. Stormcast were the B plot of the final Dawnbringers book and mostly minor roles beyond that, mostly irrelevant to Broken Realms outside of stalling Belakor long enough for the Kharadron under command of Grombrindal to arrive and bomb the shit out of his army with the largest Kharadron fleet since Madralta. Hell, they’re not even the only ones getting novels- Neave Blacktalon has 3 books and a show while Drekki Flynt and Grombrindal (Kharadron and just generally Dwarfs respectively) will both have 2 in a few months, with Drekki Flynt’s books being regarded as some of the best AoS books. They’re legitimately just one faction’s out of several receiving attention outside of models.
I would have said the best starter is "That ancient box of Dominion that your FLGS has had sitting on clearance on its shelves for ages, selling for less than the Ultimate Starter Set, despite the Ultimate Starter having less content than Dominion", but checking my FLGS it's no longer in stock. I assume this is because GW did a big buyback of all the old stuff, like they did with 9th edition codices, not because my FLGS managed to actually move that product.
Meanwhile, my FLGS still has three copies of the Eldritch Omens box from years ago, rotting on the top shelf at full price. (My FLGS, sadly, doesn't DO discounts on Warhammer product). Because even if they had chopped the price down to $130 or something, it would still not be a great deal.
Yay! I was hoping that you guys would spill over into a little bit more AoS. Feels like there might be a lot of AoS curious players out there (myself included) and having heard positive reviews about Spearhead mode I'm wanting to dip my toes in. I jumped into the Stormbringer subscription which has landed me very close to owning several near-complete Spearhead armies.
Yndsatra is always a good value because she can be re-sold for people that kitbash or you can use her wings and start to kitbash yourself. Can never have too many of her!
@@themilo1567 GW would make a lot of money selling LOTS of different, specialized parts. You know, the way they sell the Citadel Skulls kit. But then again, that would also mean selling more of those, and not full kits people then have to cut up. Arguably, GW make more money forcing folks to buy tons of overpriced character models.
I sold off my 40k to finance AoS stuff and ngl I couldn't be happier. The game balance is so much healthier, things are faster paced and more fun, and the community is so relaxed by comparison. Highly recommend starting aos.
@@NiallWade it's a shame because I love the world building in 40k so much Thankfully I'm only one Combat Patrol deep into my addiction so I can swerve to AoS if I need to. I'm currently thinking sea elves or dinosaurs
I’m from old school 40K, and I quit around 6th edition. Kept my eye on 40K, but never hooked me again. Got into AoS recently, and I’ll never look back. So much cooler and better in my opinion. No shade on current 40K players, just really pales in comparison.
Started a lizards riding dinosaur army with a copy of that spearhead box. Definitely getting at least 1 more box. Its pretty perfect as far as an intro goes imo. Solid units and everything can be built more than 1 way so even if you buy triples you can still use every model without even having tk convert or kitbash
This week's Shill% is: 55:30 for Patreon shoutout. I did not hear Merch or UA-cam Pleasantries. Due to this being a quick change episode, I'll give it a pass; if and only if next week is as good as it was hyped. 12:40 nice edit, Berillio
As a fan of both 40k n aos im love seeing a high quality comedic video of aos thats not just talking about rules and tournament results (thats most aos channels except honest wargamer some of the time 😅❤❤
To future readers:The stormcast section was incorrect on one part: Skaventide is likely to float around for 2-3 years as was dominion as yes there is demand just not as much as 40k launch boxes and skaven players usually already had skaven so look for that first even if it is 2 years down the line
Even if the Skaven end up being snatched up, the Stormcast half will likely stick around. Even if more and more of those models end up broken up into individual squads, rather than the "full package".
Just a lil note on a few intro boxes you missed. The Daughters of khaine Xmas battle force box is still on shelves in shops and online along side cursed city for a boatload of soulblight gravelords
If you are comfortable with blue casting, the nurgle spearhead can let you make up to 15 blightkings with the extra bits, and you can make some extra nurglings too with some creativity.
Please keep the AoS stuff coming. I still love 40k and all that, but my interest in it has kinda plateaued with the simplicity of it. Being able to use my Daemons to try AoS has really gotten me more interested in that game, and now I find myself more excited to learn and discuss the game in general.
Great episode guys! These ones are my favorites, they show off a lot of the models and for some reason I am obsessed with the economics of these games, even though I don't play. I hope the postponed episode is your "AOS Faction Guide" where you give a beginner's intro to each army, who they are, how they play, how expensive are they, etc. If it's not, that's an episode I'd love to see. Keep up the good work!
Since you bring up the dawnbringer boxes, they’re designed for their respective faction’s army of renown. For those who don’t know, the AORs are alternate ways to play each faction that have unique rules but limits what models you can actually play. For example, the DOK is based around the normal elves, so you get a box of normal elves. During the dawnbringer event at the end of last edition, GW introduced the AORs and released a box for each one. They are not meant to be intro boxes, but boxes for people who already play the army and want to try the AOR but doesn’t have enough models to fit the restrictions
I have waited so long for this episode, you have NO IDEA! Seriously, I’ve been wanting to play Spearhead for AGES now, but I have NO mind for mechanics and had no idea which ones would be good to start with and which would make me want to quit before I began. Thank you guys so much for posting this episode, and thank you so much, Berellio, for putting it together; I know ‘twas meant to be essentially a last-minute filler episode, but I am SO grateful to have it! 🥰 Edit: Removed þe þorns so people might boþer to comment on _anyþing else_ I said.
fyreslayers is truly the single most "wow this battletome has so many cool units locked away in the lore section" army in AoS. Everyone shits of fyreslayers for all looking the same except for the Droths, and GW has more weird creatures like the Droths people love... THAT THEY DON'T USE!
Thank you for this episode. As someone who is starting to dabble into AoS after everyone has been raving on Spearhead, you at least made some of my fears go away, since I got the Bonereapers, and STD spearheads, since both of those looked awesome to me. Now I know I have no regrets.
Loving the AoS content. Was definitely expecting a tier list when I saw the title but this was still great, regardless of last minute throw together. Excited for the next AoS episode.
This is really interesting timing. Ive been voraciously consuming content about all the combat patrols (to include yalls "build better combat patrol" episodes). In the past 24 hours, while at work and working on a project. That project is building up every spearhead force. Thank you. I dont know what the point of this comment is. But thank you. Though I will say, I would love to see "building a better spearhead". Dont know if thatd be too derivative. I also dont know if thats something yall would want to do.
I just bought the Stormcast Spearhead Box as my first "big" Warhammer/Wargaming purchase and I'm super happy with it. I haven't gotten far with building yet but so far I love the models ^^
can't wait for you all to play all the spearheads then do a tier list aswell. don't play 40k but been with your podcast for about a year now. keep it up and it's amazing. would love more aos but that's since i play aos, will listen either way!
for khorne, spearhead+combat patrol+bloodthirster and you have not only over 2000pts (basically room for list adjusting) but a near perfect slice of the entire army you have THE "khorne army"
Boy howdy I can't wait to see how they rate my beloved Beasts of Chaos, whose Vanguard Box I bought last year not knowing that the faction was going to be squated in less than a year!
Great video as always. Love watching these especially considering the epic editing for someone who doesn't play and doesn't have the models themselves in mind. Hence I will point out that at 23:30 the race is wrong on the box. It's a nitpick but I want the videos to only improve and for everyone to enjoy the videos more :)
Sons of Behemat spearhead is really interesting due to how 2 of the 3 gargants can come back once, so your opponent really is fighting 5 total gargants, and their general ability/regiment abilities can be tailored towards what kind of army you're fighting. Low HP cannon fodder? Foe Chompers means you can kill one (Or sometimes two!), with stuff em in the bag for D3 healing every turn. They're not pretty models but they are very prime proxy targets. There's a lot of people who make cool looking gargant alternatives that aren't as expensive as the spearhead - you just need to make sure the base is the right size and that they're about the same height.
Absolutely good targets for proxies. The one I'd recommend is Max Mini, who have a trio of mini-Gargant sized giants for the price of the old Start Collecting boxes. And they look FANTASTIC. (And they're women, or at least woman-coded. Good for representation, and for pissing off really weird, misogynist nerds. Win win.) While the prospective Gargant enjoyer is there, they might as well spend slightly more money on one of the three Mega-Gargant sized giant models, too. Models which ALSO look fantastic. The whole range they have going for them keeps tempting me to start a Sons of Behemat army, a temptation I'm sorely pressed to resist.
As a nighthaunt player, the vanguard box is really nice, in my opinion. It's got our main battleline units that you'd probably think about when you think about the army as a whole. I've bought 2 in my time with them and would possibly pick them up again
I have to say, as a Gloomspite Gitz fan, I don't find the stabbaz and shootaz that bad. Yes, they're older, but that also means the sprues are really simple and that makes them really easy to build. Also despite their age, are actually pretty good looking for their size, I think you may be confused with the old Night Goblins that just got re-released for the Old World, but if you put them side to side you can definitely recognise which one is the younger versione. I'd say they're the best of both world. Then again, I may biased because I love the little fakerz: they're so smol and cute!
I agree. They are just "passable" though, as they do stick out a bit next to their better sculpted brethren. Kinda sad when the Squig Herder looks like a million bucks next to a stabba. However I also agree with Poorhammer that this is like the skaven situation. Change out the clan rats/stabbas for new sculpts and then this is a different story al together. Gits really need that update since so much else has already enjoyed since a huge overhaul.
@@Colorcrayons I have both the herder and the stabbas and I think they're fine. Maybe I just don't care about overly detailed minis. Also I generally love their aesthetic, so they're not just "passable" to me.
When and if you do use AoS avatars; I advocate for Brad being an FeC model. The art and models are good, but also he's Management. Corrupted, Decaying, Notoriously Deluded. Also good video and thank you.
You guys are great! You have got new subscriber 😁. Listening to "discussion" format is much more interesting than to a single talking heads in other vlogs. Please please do more AoS. 🙏 There are big AoS community waiting for you there 😁.
Well, I'd been thinking about dabbling in AoS after your big faction breakdown. Thanks for the input on the factions (even if my wallet will be begging for mercy). Also, talking to one of the employees at my LGS this weekend, he described Kroak as "Schrodinger's frog". I thought you might find that good for a laugh
That cities spearhead pairs pretty well with the christmas battleforce. Puts you at 1490 points, double up the two infantry units and you've got room for a nice big monster or steam tank.
Glad someone is covering this. Spearhead is a great game set, the boxes are a good value, and unlike 40k they didn't go around destroying these box sets (at least so far) but instead built Spearhead around the existing boxes. Good stuff! Quick edit: The FEC box's Arch Regeant is now Online Only (they haven't updated it yet but we can't buy them like we used to) so you can't pick this up at your LGS for a discount generally.
Some advice from someone who bought the Sylvaneth box to use in Spearhead matches and loves it (I almost won a small local tournament with it, despite some strong competition), the Treelord or any of your other units being able to zip around the battlefield using Strike and Fade or Walkers of the Hidden Paths means both that your army-wide movement is really solid and that your units are hard to pin down and trap in melee combat if you always keep them within 3 inches of a terrain feature (not difficult to do on the Spearhead game boards with how small they are, while also staying close to objectives your opponent has little/no control over). The biggest issue I had was where one of my opponents knew to play "keep-away" from the Treelord, thus disproportionately hindering a lot of my melee output, though the Treelord also has a fairly decent ranged attack and some of my other opponents tended to forget that or not know to play around it, since its range isn't "Kurnoth Greatbows"-good but is still solid enough to stay outside of most charge rolls.
By the way, the Sons of Behemat Mancrusher Gargants never sold in doubles, they sold in triples, and the box was literally just repackaged to say "Spearhead: Sons of Behemat" instead of "Mancrusher Mob."
I'm glad you guys are expanding your interests to AoS. AoS has been more fun than 40k since mid 9th edition. I have 3 AoS/TOW armies and only 1 40k army.
As a 5th/6th edition Warhammer Fantasy Battle Dwarf player, I think those Fyreslayers look badass. Modern take on the old school Slayers. I have a FLGS near me which does a Big Annual Sale around the Super Bowl each year, and I will be taking a look at that Spearhead box for sure. Thanks for the continued AOS content, guys!
Great for you if you like them, but imo the Fyreslayers are miles away from 'modernised old school Slayers' (except Gotrek, his new model is solid). Because Slayers wore boots and trousers (like Gotrek still does). Fyreslayers wear nappies and are barefoot. That completely ruins the models for me.
Building my CoS Spearhead box while listening to this. I haven't actually played it yet, but my local GW store manager said it's pretty solid to get two to build up a larger army and just sell or trade away the Cavalier marshal if you don't want it. I'm planning to combine my box with some Dwarf units that I've had collecting dust for a long time. I suspect they'll get retired from AoS eventually, but that's why I've got Old World movement trays!
I want different avatars for AoS episodes!!!

Fun fact magmadroths were in the fyreslayers start collecting which was less than the kit on its own
The disciples of Tzeentch box is a great deal for thousand sons players. The sorcerer on disk can have a quick head-swap and become an exalted on disc. Minimal effort there. You've then got a 10 pack each of cultists, Tzaangor, and some demon allies. Nice. Adds some much needed life to the range honestly.
I just picked up the DoT Spearhead. I highly recommend it! You can also add the Tzaangors to your Thousand Sons Army as well!
Stormcast are fucking awesome, its just a secret because too much character in a faction is not as important as “”accessibility””
>"oh by the way there's like 20 other factions that never get ANY publicity and they're cool as hell"
how does that surprise you as a 40k fan lol
the only faction that gets publicity there is the Imperium and 80% of even that is just space marines.
They’re legitimately just one faction’s out of several receiving attention outside of models.

...bumpity bump?
I would have said the best starter is "That ancient box of Dominion that your FLGS has had sitting on clearance on its shelves for ages, selling for less than the Ultimate Starter Set, despite the Ultimate Starter having less content than Dominion", but checking my FLGS it's no longer in stock. I assume this is because GW did a big buyback of all the old stuff, like they did with 9th edition codices, not because my FLGS managed to actually move that product.
Now that you mention it, my LGS had 3-4 Dominion boxes for ages that all vanished over the weekend Skaventide launched
My LGS cut them down to $75 just to make them go away.
My LGS managed to shove the last few boxes off last year for like £80 each.
AOS Superiority!
Spearhead is actually so fun! I hope you get stuck in and love it :)
Yndsatra is always a good value because she can be re-sold for people that kitbash or you can use her wings and start to kitbash yourself. Can never have too many of her!
Gw would make a fucking mint just selling her wings.
This makes me want to start playing AoS. I've been curious for a while but no idea where to start so this is a useful video!
I sold off my 40k to finance AoS stuff and ngl I couldn't be happier. The game balance is so much healthier, things are faster paced and more fun, and the community is so relaxed by comparison. Highly recommend starting aos.
@@NiallWade it's a shame because I love the world building in 40k so much
Thankfully I'm only one Combat Patrol deep into my addiction so I can swerve to AoS if I need to. I'm currently thinking sea elves or dinosaurs
@@therobotFrom94 If you still want to stay engaged with 40k, Kill Team is also excellent.
I’m from old school 40K, and I quit around 6th edition. Kept my eye on 40K, but never hooked me again. Got into AoS recently, and I’ll never look back. So much cooler and better in my opinion. No shade on current 40K players, just really pales in comparison.
I just fucking opened UA-cam and see this shit, hell yeah
Started a lizards riding dinosaur army with a copy of that spearhead box. Definitely getting at least 1 more box. Its pretty perfect as far as an intro goes imo. Solid units and everything can be built more than 1 way so even if you buy triples you can still use every model without even having tk convert or kitbash
This week's Shill% is: 55:30 for Patreon shoutout. I did not hear Merch or UA-cam Pleasantries. Due to this being a quick change episode, I'll give it a pass; if and only if next week is as good as it was hyped.
12:40 nice edit, Berillio
Wait did our hyping of next week make the video? I thought we only did that on the audio portion.
The box is worth the price just for those toes imo

Yep. A games store I shop online at still shows 35 boxes in stock.
supply is starting to dry up a bit though, GW north america doesn't have anymore in stock

Just a lil note on a few intro boxes you missed. The Daughters of khaine Xmas battle force box is still on shelves in shops and online along side cursed city for a boatload of soulblight gravelords
You are a lifesaver G
Yeah, and the vastly superior entry point for OBR are either battleforce for them (Tithe-Echelon or Praetorian Spearhead)
Hell ya AoS time!
Honestly just trying to help with the youtube thing, but I love seeing more AoS stuff from ya'll.

I literally just started talking to my friend about picking up spearhead boxes to get into AoS last week... great timing!
fyreslayers is truly the single most "wow this battletome has so many cool units locked away in the lore section" army in AoS. Everyone shits of fyreslayers for all looking the same except for the Droths, and GW has more weird creatures like the Droths people love... THAT THEY DON'T USE!
Tusday mornings always keep me sane thanks to you guys
Heads up. at 5:27, the model shown is the OLD Knight-Vexillor. The one in the box is the newer Knight-Vexillor with Banner of Apotheosis
There is also a Barnes and Noble Exclusive Beginner set, that has 5 Liberators and 20 clan rats with a paper mat and dice.
There's a version of that which comes with 6 paints that seems like a great gift

The Kroxigors are great models until you look closer and realize they're 80's beefcakes wearing lizard cosplay. And then they become GREAT.

The dominion box after its price crash had to be the best boxset for dnd minis.
Ogor's are beautiful models - they're older but that classic design is top notch.
Poorhammer is literally my go to for advice on this kind of stuff :D!!! Informative and Humorous
Win win.)
While the prospective Gargant enjoyer is there, they might as well spend slightly more money on one of the three Mega-Gargant sized giant models, too. Models which ALSO look fantastic. The whole range they have going for them keeps tempting me to start a Sons of Behemat army, a temptation I'm sorely pressed to resist.
@@Bluecho4wow those look great, wish I liked giants lol
Age of Stonks is such a goated thumbnail
I had no idea about the AoS' points but wow, getting to 2000pts is definitely easier compared to 40K.
And I play GSC
I felt the exact same way as another GSC player
Heck yeah AoS! Very glad to hear more is-a-comin'
You guys are awesome, look forward every week to hear you. 🎉
Dok player here, doomfire warlocks are used in voth sides of the army. They are our wizards so more unlimited spell casts
Insert joke about the thousand sons combat patrol tzangors here
Love me some Tzaangors!!
You guys keep me in this hobby as it keeps robbing me lol
By the way, the Sons of Behemat Mancrusher Gargants never sold in doubles, they sold in triples, and the box was literally just repackaged to say "Spearhead: Sons of Behemat" instead of "Mancrusher Mob."
Good episode.
The seraphon and stormcast box seem like the ones for me.
Awwww yes, more AoS from my favourite warhammer podcast, my day is made ^^
YES! More-more AOS! Great Horned Rat approves-likes!
I'm glad you guys are expanding your interests to AoS. AoS has been more fun than 40k since mid 9th edition. I have 3 AoS/TOW armies and only 1 40k army.
This makes me so happy I am literally in the process of trying to pick and AoS box
I didn't know STD = Slaves to Darkness. So since they just got done talking about Nurgle and Slaanesh I thought they were still on that.
@@efffvss I would make a joke about a Dwarf player splitting hairs and holding a grudge but I think that joke writes itself, yes?
@@efffvss FWIW, a good number of Slayer models had bare feet in the WFB era. I will grant you they did wear trousers rather than loincloths, however.

I love your guys' 40k content but I fucking ADORE your AoS content.
