    About This Video:
    Have you ever tried transition lenses? Well in this video, Joseph Allen, OD, FAAO from Doctor Eye Health reviews the new transition lenses gen 8, photochromic lenses which react faster than ever before. This transition glasses review will go over how transitions lenses work and react as photochromic glasses in the presence of sunlight and turn from clear glasses lenses into sunglasses. Large optical companies such as essilor, varilux, and luxottica all invest millions of dollars into research to make photochromic sunglasses better and transition faster into sun glasses. This transitions signature gen 8 review also goes over the sunlight protection benefits of these lenses and mentions how transitions lenses can block some blue light as well. Doctor Allen also shares some cons experienced with transition lenses in this transition lenses review.

      Been wearing Transitions lenses 15 yrs. I'm totally sold! My sunglasses are never wear I am! Plus, I don't like the higher cost for Rx sunglasses that I only use 25% of the time. Thus the need for Transitions. Can't wait to try the Gen 8!

      I did for a few of my pairs but recently I preferred to not have that applied because a tint remained even after I remained indoors for awhile. But I also learned that now there's a new type of transition that fades completely indoors. But I opted out anyway. I wasn't sure if I wanted the feature but I might need it sometimes.
      With my first 2 pairs, one each in grade school and high school, I got tinted glasses to match the frame colour. lol

    I am a photographer, and I was wearing transitions and noticed I kept taking them on and off when taking photos outdoors. I just switched to prescription sunglasses and a pair of regular glasses. I loved transitions for summertime where I work with marching bands and I am going inside and outside all the time, but it just didn't cut it for my lifestyle. I love prescription sunglasses though, it helps reduce the headaches I got while driving with sunglasses that were not prescription.

    How cool would it be if the temples were touchscreen and you were able to touch and slide to set the amount of sunglass you would need. Maybe this will be possible in the future using something like electrochromic glass techniques.

    • @marcellemay7721
      @marcellemay7721 2 роки тому +9

      Yes...this would be the ideal solution for a lot of us. In the car, you could make them darker. Also, I'm a carpenter and I'm in and out of the building, and the transitions just don't adjust quick enough to make them practical. ie: going outside to make a cut on the saw and then reentering the building to fit the piece. This scenario is a total nightmare if wearing transition lenses. Which is why I had one pair early on in my eyewear trials and never ordered a pair after that. Even these faster lenses are not nearly fast enough.

    Just got transitions 8, they are my first transitions. We are coming into autumn (fall) here in Australia, so not that bright outside. So far enjoying them, and surprised how dark they get, and how quickly -- I run outside every time the sun breas through the clouds! I must say, even for driving, they tint just enough to take the glare off in current conditions. I still have my trusty polarised RayBans in the glove box for emergencies though ;-)

    person who loose a lot of stuff, so it’s cool to have two things in one, I used to wear glasses for close vision, and I wore sun glasses, but lost them a lot of times. Now I wear glasses for far vision and I got Transitions, and now I won’t forget my sun glasses.

    The only down side is that in mid February to mid April they turn much darker.
    I have them in good wear glasses and in my safety glasses. And at my workplace (Construction outdoors) during that time of year, I find myself looking under my glasses a lot as they get so dark I can't see a pencil line on my material.

    I like transitions because the sun sometimes feels as if it's punching my eyes (literally). I had them 7 years and it has become inconvenient to live without them BUT I think that tinted lenses have their advantages for wearing inside when you're experiencing light sensitivity during a migraine for example. I like to get at least three pairs of glasses when I get a new prescription. Clear, Tinted and Transition because you definitely can see the yellow tinge of the tint of the transitions whilst inside and it can impact artwork.

    I have had transition lenses for many, many years. They have surely improved over the generations of development. I found the lenses very useful for having a single pair of glasses when doing outdoor activities. They worked great when on long hikes (2 - 10 days), canoeing, and at the beach. As you have said, they do not work as well when driving because of the UV protection of the windows.
    As a nomad who spends a lot of time driving our RV our on road trips, I think I want to get prescription sunglasses as driving glasses. Can you provide a recommendation on the type of lenses I should get for prescription sunglasses as driving glasses? I am interested in the recommendation of the color of lenses too. I do prefer progressive bifocals to best support seeing inside the vehicle while enjoying outside the vehicle.
    You videos are fantastic and very helpful.

      I'm wearing Zeiss' drive safe and just got them a few days ago. I love them quite a lot, although I dont think the 65% glare reduction is accurate. Granted they say, "perceived glare reduction" so they're careful with how they word it. I'd say glare protection is somewhere around 30% or so. Definitely not as high as 65%
      Other than that, they're just really good lenses, really clear and the glare reduction that I do get, is better than a very low percentage or not having them at all so can't go wrong.

    The Transition lens are some of the best glasses I have ever had. I had them for five pair of glasses over a 5-7 year period and I have come to depend on them. I retired a couple years ago but worked as a aviation mechanic on a flight line for thirty plus years and prior to getting the transition I always had the hassle of using clips on and even regular prescription sun glasses as I am extremely light sensitive. These lens are a real eye saver. My OD suggested them and I tried them out. Now you will never see me not ordering a pair of glasses without them. I do have nuclear cataracts and they do help me a lot outdoors and gosh I spend hours everyday outside even after I retired. The biggest thing I Had to adjust to after I got Transition lens was the time it took for the lens to clear after coming back inside but now with the newer ones I hardly even notice that, it could be my brain has been conditioned to know that the lens having to clear

    Love transition lens, I always option it in whenever I get a new pair of prescription glasses.
    But to help with my driving I have these amber clip-on which really help a lot in dusk/dawn/night times, it helps clear extra bright light in the morning and lessens the glare of on-coming LED headlamps from the opposite side of traffic at night.

    • @nicholasterberg5977
      @nicholasterberg5977 3 роки тому +6

      Having worn transitions for well over 4 years now, I can say this: Transitions seem to have a short break in period (likely less than 72hrs Imo) after which they work consistently for at least 2 years. After this 2 yr period I've found that the lenses generally don't quite go as clear as they used to. It's not enough to be noticeable while wearing them, but you can tell they're not clear when you take them off.
      My latest transitions glasses are easily older than 2 years now, so it's likely any pair you might buy have fixed this issue. Despite this, I seriously love my transitions, I don't think I can buy glasses without them anymore.

      Transitions discontinued the previous iterations. They do this whenever a new generation is introduced. Most of the well known corporate stores have their existing inventory of previous gen lenses recalled by the host laboratory and replaced with current gen product. While not impossible, the likelihood of getting previous gen at this stage of the product cycle is pretty low. No worries.

      I didn't broke mine :)
      I've used transition lenses for a long time (many years), until one day I had the same kind of experience. Normal day, a bit sunny but nothing exaggerated. I took my transition lenses off for some activity aaaand... I was blinded by the light. Totally normal daylight blinded me. With transition lenses the light was always at about same level the whole day, if I would have to compare it I would say almost like the early evening light (not super light, not dark; just not so much light).
      I changed my glasses soon after, no more transition lenses. I need "sunglasses"? I bought a pair of clipping sunglasses lenses (the ones that clip on the regular eyeglasses). Not as convenient but they do their job (if I don't forget them at home).

    Hi Doc! I hope you're doing well!
    I've been using transitions for a few years now and I've noticed something cool recently.
    With my current pair of transition lenses, I noticed that towards their 1 year "anniversary", they have become darker. For the first year of my current lenses, I always felt like they weren't dark enough and were still letting in a fair bit of light (I'm quite sensitive to extreme light). But for the past 10 months or so, I've noticed that they've reached some really dark shades (which is super cool with me). I haven't changed location. I still do pretty much what I've been doing doing for the past 5 years.
    So my question is, is it possible for transitions to become darker as they age?

    • @isabellind1292
      @isabellind1292 2 роки тому +1

      Gee, I don't think so but I'm still researching because I'm going to be buying transitions glasses. I read though on the "RX Safety" site that transition lenses last for about 3 yrs and that you'll see a yellowish tinge forming on the lenses while clear & a noticeable reduction of the lenses darkness in full sunlight as they age.
      Are you saying the darkness in your lenses has increased over time? Do you notice this yellowish tinge? It concerns me because I suspect I'm going to be investing a lot of money into this type of eyewear.💰👓🕶👀
