So I did miss last weeks Friday upload... a promise is a promise so stay tuned! I'm going to try come up with a fun way of doing things 😁
I am using the media page all the time, but never registered the idea of making a folder a favorite. I see a pattern watching Alex's tutorials. I always learn something new. Keep it going as quality prevails. Onwards to a million subscribers.
You got me. I did think you were going to talk about the Cut page.
Thank you for this video. Now, I can set up Resolve to benefit any project I start.
Once again you are able to find little nuggets that are not obvious, but very useful. I have always been a fan of the Media Page, but you have just made it much more useful. Thanks.
As always, learned a lot here, thank you. The bits about having the drives live in the Media page is a game changer for me. i spend a lot of time dragging in b-roll clips (well, c-roll, stuff I use that's not the b-roll I thought of but little product clips and stuff) and didn't realize I could just favorite the directory and go right to those.
Syncing the audio there is much more useful than doing it in the timeline, where connecting the audio and video clips never quite seems to work right, this is a huge time saver.
I enjoyed messing around with the Media Page on my last masterpiece. I'd amassed over 1Tb of footage and was pleasantly surprised to, accidentally, learn how to import all my footage in their different folders and keep the file structure. Problem was, I couldn't remember how I did it. This Tutorial has helped me remember what I did rather than clicking, dragging and hoping.
Winner, winner, chicken dinner😀
great video Alex!!
I have really become a fan of the Media page over the past couple of months. I had no idea of the clone tool. Love it and going to start using it!!
thanks so much for these videos Alex, learnt so much so far, completely overlooked this one, will definitely save me a lot of time on projects going forward, kudos 🙌
I will definitely be spending time making sure I know how to use these features. Thanks, Alex.
In my experience, the value of the Media page increases the more footage you have. If you are doing quick turnaround on a relatively small amount of media, you don't need a long assembly-phase. But if you need to work on a lot of media, the preparation of the footage is almost mandatory so you can find all the important stuff later.
Awesome info!!! While I have been using the Media page i now realize I am missing a lot!!! Thanks to you Mr. Alex!!!
Awesome tutorial. Never had need for the media page until today
Thank you for putting this awesome video together. I always learn something from these tips.
Man, THAT was very cool.😎
Thnx Allot!!!👊
Great job with this 1⃣
Dont forget the power bins. Especially useful for power bins based off of keywords. Also searching in the media pool for keywords can be useful.
Yet another great video, thank you!
Very handy tips. Thanks 👍😊
Never really used this Page, but I now will have a look which steps can save some time or make it easier. Thanks Alex
how could you ignore such great advice, thanks Alex
Don't worry about missing last weeks video Alex.
We all have to deal with personal stuff from time to time.
Very useful tips which I *shall* use - thanks very much
You are a great resource, thank you so much! Scene cut detection is very handy for color correcting mixed video from VMix or other mixers.
Man...I would have NEVER even considered the page outside of you. But once again here I am trying something new. Thank you broski
Yes, I couldn't resist clicking the thumbnail 😂
I routinely use the media tab to do an organized import of all my clips, review and keyword tag (I mostly do sports videos so I need to keep the clips organized by competitor.)
I didn't know about the ability to make a sub clip just by dragging it down! That is something I have wanted for some time. Thanks for the tip, it is appreciated!
I've put your audio ripping tip to work today already mate - you bloody ripper!
Very useful, thank you
They say that 'Every day is a school day', the clone tool looks cool. I currently replicate files manually to 2 other locations, this will allow me to do everything from within DaVinci and also checksum the copy which is a bonus. Cheers.
The file characteristics really lack a bitrate column, so you have to use third-party programs. The size of the output file depends on the bitrate, and if you do not set the correct bitrate, the output file will be very large. sometimes you just need to adjust existing videos and get an output file of the same size; without bitrate this is impossible.
scene detection is a real hidden gem
😇This is great information, Alex! Thanks for sharing it!
Intro on point 🤣 I guessed before clicking that Media page could steal the show this time
Good advice. Thanks.
Good to see someone else that has as many hard drives as I do. Crazy. Maybe one day I'll get a NAS.
learned a few things i didn't know very clever and hand tools thanks
I didn't know the media pool was capable of such impactful task.....i think I am going to get reacquainted with the media page...keep up the great videos
Hi Alex! Excellent video my friend! I'm use Media for a while. It's so powerful!
I think the scene cut detection it is available on free version in media page, the studio version it is scene cut detection directly on timeline, right? Sorry if I'm tripping 😅
Keep the good work, i love your videos!
Im convinced, thank you and i have almost deleted my entire hard drive using this screen, i cancelled before it did too much damage but did loose some vital footage lol With your explanation though this actually provides alot of value so thank you!
Great video as always! Btw, I'm pretty sure Scene Cut Detection is in the free version. It's just Detect Scene Cuts (in the Timeline menu) which is cleverer and is Studio only.
Alex, you're the guy I turn to for clear, concise, useful and understandable instruction; Nevvvvvver stop . . . please. Thank you.
OMG - so many tips 👍
🙏 😁 🙏
I thought I knew everything in Media Page. =) I was wrong. Great thank again Alex! Great job!
Awesome tips
Excellent - always something I didn't know about - even though I'm a relatively experienced Davinci Resolve user. No need for apologies about covering the paid for version - Studio users are watching too.
I have not been using the Media page at all because it has made no sense to me. As with all of your videos, I've learned some very useful and helpful info today with this video. I may even start using the Media page! Thanks again, Alex!
4:01 PM 2/2/2024:
This video is so good that I have decided to subscribe (again) from another of my channels. Thank you. I thought I knew more than enough already about Resolve, but this was loaded with valuable tips.
Please never hold back/out on "Studio Only" tips.
I have created a folder on my desktop and made it's icon from your profile picture, and inside that folder I add shortcuts to you valuable videos.
I can quickly find/access this folder when I need a topic 'refresher', thank you.
If there was any way for me to hit ‘like’ about 20 times then I would - this is brilliant- thanks Alex!
Good stuff Alex - I wish these kinds of videos were around when I started using Resolve - would have made learning a lot quicker. I know you explained that the subclips were just using the in and out of the master files. But it should pointed out that - if you change the name or the path ( OR worse - deleted the master file ) none of the subclip will work and you'll end up with that dreaded "Media Offline" red icons.
Also as I've told people - using this workflow ( the media tab ) eliminates a lot of potential path problems that people that just drag and drop to the edit page encounter. The top won't show you the media if it's not mapped correctly into Resolve. A lot of people have the problem of dropping the file onto the edit page and Resolve actually can't store the path, because of it not being mapped, and they end up with again the dreaded "media Offline" red icons of death.
I have the habit of using the conventional workflows and to this day, the only media offline problems I have ever had - were actual drives that I unplugged or changed the folder name.
Another top notch video here Alex - keep up the great work. cheers
I was ready to say : eeeeeeew the cut page.
The detector of people on the media page really needs an update.
The media storage tab needs a way to past a path... So many things to revamp
I'd take access to Media Storage from the edit page. That'd be handy 😄
Thanks!
I typically start my projects in the media page but if I’m working on an edit and need to add something later I’ll just drag and drop in the media bin on the edit page. Thanks for the tips! I didn’t know about the audio syncing and selecting multiple folders.
I still have the Cut Page hidden from view. That page scares me, but not as much as the Fusion Page.
Scene cut detection works in the free version. What doesn't work in the free version is "on timeline" scene cut detection. So trying to launch the scene cut detection from a clip on the timeline via right click menu does NOT work in free. The less convenient method (as demonstrated by Alex) DOES.
Haha. I did think you were going to say cut page.
Haha I knew everyone would assume I was talking about the cut page 🤣
True!! You are super cool
These are actually pretty cool features, and…I’ve literally never used the media tab.. lol! Wonder, though…why they are there and not elsewhere….like the audio syncing thing is a solid feature, but…seems like it’s more appropriate in Edit and Fairlight. (I know you can do those things there, too. lol)
Scene cut detection is in the free version too.
Yeah, I love the media page, I've become really proficient in using it, I'm hoping to move to one of the other pages one day 👍 😊
Definitly some things to try there Alex. Cheers.
I use the media page quite a lot, but yu've expanded the wealth of possibilites - gonna have a play.
What about Proxies? If I've got 2 or 3 takes on a single file and import a sub-clip of just one take (usually the final one), will that speed up the creation of proxies? Something I will have to try.
Спасибо за очередной полезный ролик. Как всегда, интересно и коротко, по сути.
Got me at the first 5 seconds, lol
Yes, that was great. I've actually paid zero attention to the media page so far. So thanks for the tips. One question: Your last tip (sync audio), can the action also be canceled for individual clips?
I Did think of the cut page before opening video 😂
Now I want to know what's inside the DoNotOpen folder 😛. Wished I had known the subclip feature earlier! Did use the marker trick but that requires quite a lot of steps.
Ok, sync audio is an absolute game changer! Can't believe I didn't know about that!
Huge isn't it? 100% reduces the amount of time it takes to sync things up. I've found a lot of good stuff out from watching this guy's videos.
12:04 it exist in the free version as well
I was literally just wondering if there was a way to just download images directly into Davinci and it was the very first thing answered! 🙏
Excellent video, thank you. I have been trying to replace legacy Kyno with a functional DAM. Is there a way to share subclips and key words across projects?
Hey @MrAlexTech, do you have a video on how to display a web page and have it smoothly auto scroll down? What's the best way to get this effect? Using it for reporting on a news article.
Hahahahaha damn you! You got me! I'm still watching your video though
Is there a way to show clip length in hours/minutes, within the media page? I see number of frames but no option to show clip length. I need it for audio clips more than for video, but it would be nice for both. Great videos, I always learn something new. Never knew about cloning, just wish it had a way to rename files during the copies.
00:00 Oh Thank God...
Thank you for this DR explanation. Love it all..
Question about audio sync.
Have a Rode Wireless Pro and record the audio on the intere storage....
These recordings can be up to 3 to 4 hours.
How in DR sync this long audio file with all video recordings?
Video files are short, a duration of (10 sec up to 2 a 3 min)...and there are many. Can be up to 100 recordings....
Is syncing the large audio white the video files possible in DR?
Thx in advance
Some things.... Most I didn't know about!
I actually always use the media page for importing media. It's the cut page I never use. Lol!
Do you have a video showing ways to organize media and storage locations? I have one PC with one nVMe drive I can add a SATA SSD but would want to know what might be best for my basic setup Thanks ...
I'm now using Studio but I'm sure scene cut detection was available on the free version????
Cool stuff but I´m ignoring it for now. I´m enjoying the edit page a little too much for the time being. But I´m definitely making a note in my memory log. Is there a similar way to break the audio sync on the edit page or you have to throw it off manually?
I use a 360 camera to shoot videos of dogs in motion at their level. I've been overlaying a grid and keyframing to keep them scaled and centered when reframed. If I could use the Planar Tracker instead of keyframing practically one frame at a time, my workload would be greatly reduced. However, when I put Tracker points on the 360 MediaIn node they also show up on the reframe node and as soon as a dog leaves that frame, it stops tracking. I've tried both KartaVR and Reframe360 with the same dismal results.
I also walk around with my Insta360 X3 on a pole, and though the stabilization is terrific, there is some bobbing around that should be able to be fixed with tracking in the 360 MediaIn node.
Would you please make a video about tracking in 360. Every tutorial about tracking that I've seen deals only with standard frames.
I'm sure you've got some comments on this already but I really want to know what's in the folder "Do Not Open". 🙃
This is 4 months old but evergreen especially because I just got my Studio license. That was in part due to watching your videos and seeing all the awesome features I was missing out on, so I bit the bullet and spent the cash on a license. Now I just have to figure out how to make money with it! Does anyone need a video editor? :) Thanks Alex.
Damm, it would be so cool if when you import folder it automatically updates and import new files you put in it so you don't have to do it manually XD
I really thought you where going to say it was possible XD false hope :,)
There is a 3rd party tool that can help with that though... I'll be making a video on that soon! :D
Please can you do the same for the CUT Page? Many thanks.
I was sure it was the cut page. :))
Gotcha 😉😁
I have a video recording from my phone in 30fps. On PC, the file details show 29.83fps.
Should I not worry about it and set the project settings to 30fps?
Regards.
At 8:23, why does the extracted wav file show 2 fewer frames?
Good question! Don't know honestly haha didn't actually notice
Hey Alex!!! You posted a video a while back that I can't find. I am trying to add the Media Page tab below in DR next to the Cut page tab and I can't remember how to add it back in. Can you help me out and give me the URL to that video or remind how to add the Media tab back in please? Thank you Sir!!! 😀😀😀 I love your videos by the way!!! Thanx for all that you do!!!
Dave
But what is in the DoNotOpen folder????
Pahaha I forgot to delete it 😁 There's nothing in it. I made it for an 'onlyfans' joke in one of my previous videos!
C'mon! I just started using the cut page. Now you want me to use the media page?? Sheesh. Ok
I just hid the tab as I didn't want to deal with it 😅
Heh - I was expeting the CUT page ;)
Me 100% of the time 😂
But i like the Cut page. 😢
See Alex? The difference between us is that you never used pr pro, i did. Why the hell (sorry for my Queen's) would I need my files in any freaking Media if i have 'm on my PC? Why can't i open my own files from pc in DaVinchi (like in pr pro) unless they are in the Media? As always, this is not a stone in you, i blame DaVinci developers. Looks like i already developed a new habit...😊
I almost skipped over this video because it doesn't say WHAT is actually pretty awesome. The thumb or subject really needs to say WHAT its about.
Stop saying “Highlight” when you mean “Select”.
I talk how I talk 😁
@@MrAlexTech a lot nicer than my go-to retort. Cheers, mate🎉
Ok then.
