    VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
Nikki is a special education teacher with three dogs and a love for natural living. She sold her home that always needed roommates to cover the cost of living and downsized to this perfect tiny home. Her house measures 43 x 8 1/2 ft with 356 sq ft of living space.
The interior has a spacious kitchen that sits aside a large window. There's an apartment-style retro fridge, a gas oven, a small microwave/oven combo, and enough room to keep her Kitchenaid beside the toaster oven. Although the counter space isn't abundant, there is plenty of cabinet storage for all her items. Nikki designed this build with two upstairs lofts, one primarily for her and the other for a guest or, most often, her three dogs. The bathroom is quaint but functional and sits next to her stackable washer and dryer. With a few spots for her projector screen and plants throughout, this house feels like a welcoming home.

This is the first time I’ve heard anyone talk about the things that don’t work so great in a tiny home, or the different challenges. I really appreciated that.

  • @calvinsmyth
    @calvinsmyth 2 роки тому +311

I like that she addresses the challenges. Sometimes in the videos, tiny living sounds too good to be true. When designing spaces it is good to keep in mind storage vs work space and be aware of the time it will take to access the storage space. It is amusing that her dogs seem to command her tiny home. 😊 Lucky dogs.

Three dogs is way too many with the behaviour she seems to struggle with. Stealing food, dragging stuff out of storage, raiding garbage cans, implied sleeping interruptions xD no thanks lol. I'll keep my cat hehe.

Every tiny home video should have the price included in a consistent location (under Description would be best). And actually, a brief mention in a format across all videos of who built it or from where they got it & how it was situated (such as delivered on trailer fully constructed; decks added after it was in final position, etc) would be very helpful, too.

Some people cover their kitchen sink or stove top to increase counter space. To provide an occasional bathroom counter top, make a cover for the sink. A mini table top with short legs to raise above the faucet & trim the edges to keep small items from rolling off. Fold up legs & a center hinge would allow easy storage. Another option, get a standing mirror & sit at your kitchen counter top extension to do make up or skin care. Thank you for the tour & your pro's vs con's tips. Your suggestion to prepare in advance for a downsized lifestyle is wise advice. It takes time to adapt to the transition.

@@Butterflies.and.Tulips what you could do is get one of those cup/drink holders that can hang/hook over the sink cabinet door. As you curl your hair, you store it in there. Keep it at a safe distance from your leg. Better yet, open the door and set it on the opposite side. Hope this helps.

That’s saved me a TON of space, plus the colors of the spices, in the quilted jars looks like stained glass when the sun hits them! For an hour each day my kitchen GLOWS!
We also have a combo air fryer, toaster oven, and rotisserie, it’s vertical so again space saving! It was also from Amazon. (Nuwave Brio 14qt large capacity it’s currently $79)
It’s about as wide as 3/4 of your microwave but as tall as your drying rack maybe a little shorter! I LOVE MINE! I even use it to dehydrate things, it’s my “go to” over my traditional oven!
I hope that helps! I LOVE LOVE LOVE your home!

our home is big and.40 yrs old... so is our LEAKY TIKI...but our veiw is breathtaking! I'm not one who sits, gazing at the inside, my used furniture...
But, I'd be fine w living in a dilapidated old singlewide as long as I have my view,.on several acres, no noise...
but living in a tiny home couldn't hold my 6ft grand piano and vintage pump organ that I play all the time..is my passion...
A tiny home like this one would be perfect for keeping set up in RV park, Suavie Island, Oregon...on the Colombia River!..kept set up so we could enjoy a few days per week.
zero debt is a.must...doesn't take big income, takes being wise and not using credit cards PERIOD!

I've thought about going tiny. The land is one thing that is an issue. Also insurance, from what I have seen can be an issue with tiny homes.

I hate a double sink - love a big open sink. ID you add an ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilator - an air exchanger) to your home it will help with the humidity problems small space like Tiny Homes have. If you are looking for a Convection Oven to fit that space Hamilton Beach makes one with a rolltop door which won't get in the way when you use it. *Where did you find that dish drying rack???* She is correct - finding a place to put Tiny Homes is very difficult in the US. I'm in New York State and there are very few places to put Tiny Homes and the rental fee for the space is outside what my retirement budget allows.

That's the issue about researching the areas which would allow tiny homes. That's what I'm worried about. If I had a tiny home, where would I be able to park it for long term?

we keep all our make up in a zippable make up case. it looks like a mini suitcase and has compartments in it. when you want to get ready you just pull it out lay it on the edge of the sink, unzip it and go. compact but holds a ton.

Air con, cut and tape cardboard and attach to 1/4 of air con and direct it to your room, a white pipe will do the same thing, even with bends in it.
I have done this and works a treat.

I love your tiny home. Your decor is incredible 😍. I'm especially interested in your toilet. I never heard or seen anything like it. Will you share the name of it again? It looks so clean, easy to maintain and retro. How did you find out about it?
