There’s no way that you did a gig 400 people with two EV 50s, no way first of all bass Falls off too fast once you leave the dance floor it’s only in your face bass punch. This is where the Bose shines plus they have 180° dispersion compared to 150 on the EV.

Maui 28 has the same mid/high arrangements so Im pretty sure it would have the same problem. Bose (and EV Evolve) are using full range speaker drivers and no horns so they don't have this problem. LD systems Curv has a much better mid/high speaker design but it is severely underpowered. @@johannjohann6523 If you like JBL, you should try CBT J70-1. It is a passive array column with four 5 in speakers and sixteen soft dome tweeters. I actually modified both of my Bose L1 Pro 16 so I can use its built-in subwoofer with a pair of JBL CBT70J-1. I feel I can put up this set up against ANY portable line array systems out there (believe me, I'm not boasting here). Just like you, I buy decent used speakers and I have never been disappointed . This is blowing my mind. I have to ask. Did you adjust any EQ setting or were you testing it as it was. The EV requires adjustments, that’s where the Bose lacks considerably. According to Bose, the l1 pro 16 is rated a maximum 124 db and EV is rated at 127db. You’re the first person I’ve heard say the Bose is louder than the EV. I’m going to head to a GC to hear them for myself. I’m glad I saw this video. I’m quite intrigued. I need to go hear them for myself. Thanks for the review!
First of all thanks for watching yes I originally went to Guitar Center to listen to the EVS and the rep asked me if I had heard the Bose L1 Pro 16s? I said no. He did a comparison between the EV 50s and the Bose L! Pro 16s and it wasn't even close! Specs don't mean s*** in my opinion! As far as the settings go (Lows/Mids/Highs) when I compared them they were all set at 12:00 on the EQ
Weird he’s the only I’ve heard on YT that has these opinions on the Bose over the EV’s and the LD’s. Think must be trying to get Bose to send him some speakers to review/promote. I listened to both of those at Guitar Center as well and that EV was so much cleaner sounding. Bose reminded me of a rebranded JBL. The clerk even tried to steer me away from them to a top and bottom set of Harbinger’s and that was definitely a red flag..
@@seeda3473 I listened to the harbingers and they were extremely harsh. I would never buy those. I did listen to Bose (but only the l1 pro 8. The rep wouldn’t get out the ev50 😑. I only got to listen to the small ev everse 8 and compared it to the small Bose s1 pro plus. The Bose l1 pro 8 sounded fantastic with acoustic guitar but just didn’t get that loud. The tiny battery powered ev, I thought was louder than the Bose column LOL. However, the Bose did sound better with my acoustic. I ended up buying the small Bose for my daughter for practice and convenience. If I get an all in one, I’m going ev. More channels, more effects, more EQ. You just get a lot more for your money. I feel limited with the Bose.
@@seeda3473 Nope not looking for free gear at all just giving my opinion. I've used all 3 brands EV 50s, Maui 28s and the Bose at the same venue and crowd size and to me there's no comparison, the Bose L1 Pro 16s sound the best and have the most headroom. But like I mentioned in my reviews I have 3 DJs that work for me that all use the EV 50s. I do think that the EV's and Maui's are built better/more road worthy than the Bose. I currently own the Bose and the Maui 28's. I use the Bose when I need more sound for a little larger event.
Great video brother! I never even thought about using Bose as a DJ speaker. I had EV Evolve 50s for 5 years and loved them. Looking to get a new set of Column speakers now so looking into the Bose and Maui systems. I like your reviews since it is more of a working man review!
Thanks for watching, not a fan of the EV 50's. I highly recommend the LD Maui 28 G3s for everyday wedding DJ speakers. Love these speakers. Bose are great but they KILL my ears with the 180 coverage.
You got the input levels (preamps) on the 50's set too low. They should be set to just before clipping. Then You will have all the headroom you need from the main amp.
This is exactly what I have been saying after owning the EV M30 and Bose L1Pro 8. The mids and highs on the EV’s were muddy in comparison to the Bose. No amount of eq could remedy the issue. If you are just playing dance music cranking it you may not care. Most reviews are about loudness and not quality of sound!
Listen to both at Guitar Center and I think Bose has got be sending you some kickbacks to push them on your channel. It was clear why all the all the DJ’s you know are running the EV’s. I’m a LD guy myself and tried to convince myself to like the pro’s. Sounded ok but It’s just so wobbly and cheap feeling. The connectors in the columns look straight up made in Tawain. I do love my Bose headphones so I was expecting a lot more from the Pro’s.
I’m thinking of purchasing the Bose system. I’m not sure if I want to get the eight or the 16. I’ve heard reviews where they say. the 16 is hard to control the level of base even with it turned all the way down. I’m going to be playing acoustic and electric guitar vocals and some BACKING TRACKS. What are your thoughts?
Yes I agree that might be a problem. I know from a Djs point of view the bass is deep and strong I usually tune the bass way down during first dances at weddings just because it’s so strong. Not sure how this would be for musicians.
Since the S1 Pro+ with wireless capability has just been released, I suspect there will be new L1 Pro16 and Pro32 coming out soon’ish which will most probably will also have wireless capabilities and maybe address some of the perceived tower wobble.
Thank you helping me make my decision, now I just need to choose between the Bose and the JBL prx one.Have you by chance reviewed those yet? Awesome review by the way and keep em comin.
@@electricimagesaustralia6899the aux input can be used for your kick. I use a percussion stomp box plugged into the aux channel and it gives some thump
This is another good comparison video. EV- Electro Voice (owned by Bosch) and has German engineering behind it. However, the new Bose portable Llne array is getting good reviews, and from establishments that provide a sound system on the stage for bands that play. They too have given the Bose system good reviews. The Bose system also offers the 32 speaker Line array which I don't think any other company offers such a large portable Line Array system. Bose has reduced their speaker offerings recently, indstead focusing on a few high quality products, and not much in betwwen, or more "budget friendly" entry level systems. EV is a solid company, and have been known for their professional sound equipment. All in house design, and additional features like DSP allow for more configuration of the speakers. With Bose, it is less configurable, however few people disagree with the sound quality and the need for any adjustments. I think EV gets an edge with durability against the Bose. This is Bose's 2nd generation Line Array, and they have designed a system that is lighter in weight for ease of transportation. Whereas EV being heavier will also be more durable. But the newer Bose Line array is a contender.
I'm a solo musician in Australia, playing acoustic gigs and I also gig with backing tracks. I bought the Evolve 50 a few weeks ago to replace my old QSC k12 (12 years old) but I must agree with you and admit the Evolve 50 does lack headroom! I was a little disappointed with them to be honest. Acoustic gigs it was fine, but playing my guitar along with backing tracks at a pub, the unit started to struggle at almost full volume and still wasn't that loud. I'll still keep them and use them for small club gigs, small functions and gigs where space is tight, but I'm keeping my QSC K12's and subs for larger gigs in the future.
Don't you feel that the bose projects way less outdoors vs. the evolve? I think the bose sound quality is phenomenal but the dispersion makes it an indoor oriented speaker vs. an outdoor. I think the directionality of the evolve made it way better for a loud outdoor setting. Do you have any issues with lower volume on the bose? Maybe it's because I tried bluetooth on it
I haven'y used them outdoors. I have QSC K12.2 speakers I use outside for ceremonies. I don't like using the column style speakers for outdoor ceremonies because of the uneven ground usually in garden areas where we setup. Too hard to keep them level vs a traditional stand and speaker.
@@jpwpro I actually returned my bose l1 pro 16 after being disappointed with them outdoors in a park, the EV50 was great outside on a beach! If you get a chance, give it a test, I would love your opinion.
I add an 15" or 18" sub with EVs. never had an issue with volume. I use a sub that has High & Full Pass connections, which sends all my lows to the external sub. (I ONLY USE FOR A SMALL/MEDIUM 100PPL WEDDING)
Love your videos I also have the L1Pro 16 and I was wondering how do you keep them for clipping. I notice when I am playing music at times I see the red blinks on at times, I do I avoid that. Is there a setting I need to do on the L1 Pro 16. Would love know your thoughts.
@@djmoevibez the chan3 is the gain channel for dj console, xlr chan1 and two is too high sensibility, try xlr to trs cable from your mixer or djconsole
I do a few weekly events, and when I switched from an EV point source system to the L1 pro 16, I received soo many compliments about the sound. I noticed it, but the fact that so many "normies" came up to me to tell me how great it sounded told me all I need to know...Cannot recommend the Bose line array enough.
Hi, thank for this review, i have pro16 for dj now two years and i love it, for the wobble, i have drawing and printing with tpu material a insert shim for the plastic insert and it remove more than 70% of the wobble
@@djmoevibez I designed it myself and printed it with my 3d printer with tpu material, it's not for sale now..... I find it a pity that Bose didn't just add a little reinforcement in the bottom section.. there maybe there is a reason, but what?
COULDNT AGREE WITH YOU MORE. I own pro16 evolve and pro32 sub2. Evolve has always let me down on headroom. I was thinking my settings were off. Nope. Bose out of the gate is effortless to get them cranking.
Most of these portable array systems are not designed to produce booming bass. If you try that by adding bass using eq you will start to clip. This was also the case with my Evox system. So I use a 15 inch subwoofer along with them with the xover set at 100hz and the problem is solved. I get another 3 to 6 db from my Evox with the sub and also booming bass. I already had that 15 inch sub sitting around so it has not been a big deal.
Nice review and yep straight to the point and because of that a question if you don't mind ( cause I reckon you're gonna know the answer ! ). The Bose is great but boy there is a lot of negative stuff on the internet and I have had no issues at all and set up time is so quick ( just so you know ! ) . Soooo is it possible to put the 16 speaker tower onto my L1 8 pro as the sub is great and I have it turned down to minimum most of the time as it has proper power so I don't want to change it but more wattage and coverage would be a hoot ! ( whaddya reckon ) OH and not forgetting ( thanks )
I just heard them both side by side at Gitar Center and the EV 50 sounds better than the Bose. The EV 50 has a better top end and plays louder with good top to bottom end uniformity. The bose was laid back, softer sounding with a laid back top end and when pushed the speaker has compression that I didn't like. The EV 50 was better if you need to play it loud at times.
Youre confusing Headroom with your mixer... Each speaker is built and desinged differently. The Gains on the EVs are designed much differently than the Bose. For one speaker youll need to increase your master volume high enough versus the other being much more sensitive.
I am wondering peoples thoughts for singers vs DJ applications. I have sung through a pair of EV 50s at a small venue and owned a Pro 8 for a while - I always thought the Bose had a little more sweetness to it for vocal/acoustic instrument applications.
Hi ! My L1 Pro 16 makes a buzzing noise even with no input connected. The noise only comes when inputs 1 and 2 are unmuted. I changed power source, used surge protector but no fix. Can you check if yours make the same noise? Noise started when volume is increased beyond 4 Led levels on input 1 and 2.
I think you will be disappointed with that particular LD. There is also no head room like you were saying about the EV's. I think you might like the Dave 18 GX4 LD's. this is my next purchase.
Honestly just so you know if you bought them from sweetwater you're all set as far as the best customer service in my opinion, but I bought several LD products and my friend bout the larger on and the sub was bad 0 customer service it took him 3 -4 months to straighten it out its a good thing our local dealer in Mass stood behind their products if not we would have been lost. This was a while ago
Great video. I think you are the first on UA-cam to compare the Bose Pro16 to the EV 50. Did you notice the better 180 degree throw on the Bose? I agree the mids on Bose are better but the high end on EV is more like your typical point source top with more clarity, but some say too much in your face can be fatiguing. Looking forward to that Maui 28 review.
Thanks for watching. Bose 180 is great for the room but not so great for the dj. 120 would have been better for my ears. The clarity on the Bose is unmatched so far with other speakers I’ve heard or used. But the Bose fragile build and road worthiness is very lacking. If I could have the Bose guts inside the EV shell that would be a perfect match IMHO✅ Got 3 wedding this weekend so I will have a good idea how the LD Maui 28s rank with these.
Everyones ears are different. For me the whole Bose Pro line including the Pro32 has a rolled off top end. Thinking, because they don't use a dedicated tweeter. Specs show this by not reaching 20Hz like most PA's. Even if I max out the treble EQ, Bose still sounds recessed on the highs compared to QSC, JBL, RCF, EV.@@ronedwards8239
@@ronedwards8239he didn't say the EV has more clarity. He said the Bose was "unmatched" for clarity. In other words the EV can't match the clarity of the Bose...
I sure hope Bose is paying attention and watching these videos. I am hoping they redesign the column to make it more secure and sturdy. Thx for the video
Bottom line is if you want a system that can get loud, with punchy bass buy the Evolve. If you want a system that doesn't make you cover your ears when you walk buy but fills the room with even coverage and very rich bass then buy the Pro16. You get what you pay for. To be honest, if you're looking to purchase the Evolves, spend a little extra money and buy the Pro16s. Hands down the best column for sound, size, and weight.
If the Line Array does not fit into the Sub to carry on just one hand then that is a no Portable Line array. It's just a Line Array system wanna be portable.. I rather bring my Big PA System. Portable means you have a few people on a venue if you wanted loud why not just bring a Big PA?? to me this is completely nonsense when it comes to portable.
I have a cart so that doesn't matter to me. The BIG difference is the sound and room coverage (180 degrees vs 74-90 for a traditional speaker) and the sound is way better than any traditional speaker I've ever used. This is why I made the switch. Thanks for watching.
Agreed. While the 50's column may be a bit sturdier, it's still vulnerable to being damaged by someone bumping into it. Really surprised either company hasn't addressed this. I get trying to keep costs down, but I'd gladly sacrifice a little more money for a sturdier column.
I have both. EV has a way better sound but doesnt throw as far as bose. Bose has a smiley face eq and if ya wanna run a band thru it… well best of luck to you.
Sorry I totally disagree with the better sound. Bose sound is amazing. The Bose & LD Maui 28s both sound better than the EVs in my opinion. The only thing that EV is better at than Bose is the build quallity.
Lol!!! Sounds just like a Glock baby, lol!!! The best thing about the EV is their ability to hold tone & clarity at every level, unlike the Bose that is solid at low to mid volumes but can’t touch the EVs top end. Yes, you can certainly push the EV to distortion, but you reach that floor at a considerably higher DB/SPL level. Just because the Bose limits distortion by squelching their overall volume at much lower levels just means they are designed to be used by amateurs who don’t know volume ends at clipping/distortion and this allllows them to turn it up to 11 and forget about it without damage. For smaller gigs or events that cater to spoken word or acoustic strings the Bose is a solid choice but in every other setting the Bose falls short, especially when you bring in the newer 50M. You might be able to make a case for the Bose if you were comparing it to the EV 30M, but only user error could make the 50M or 50 fail against the Bose in a blind head to head…

@@seeda3473😅😅
Agree! Thanks for watching
Yes I have. I was a long time JBL guy but I have to say the JBL PRX one is the worst of all the speakers. I do not recommend them at all
Totally agree Bose is way better and I have try both
if only the Bose had a couple more inputs! i like the evolve as it has plenty of inputs and no need for a separate mixer
How many inputs you need?
just 3- kick, vocs and guitar- but most speakers without the onboard mixer only have 2!@@jpwpro
Thanks for the input!
Do you plug in channel 3 of the bose or in the mic preamp 1&2?
If you get a chance, give it a test, I would love your opinion.
so glad you said that about the headroom, that's the main reason I couldn't live with the m50s. was thinking im the only one who thought this.
JPW thank you for the info, helps me a lot for doing small event sound.. now, I gotta know who did your radio promo intro!? I need to hire the guy!

Excellent service and quick turn around time.
How many Bose S1 are comparable to a L1 pro eight, in terms of loudness? thank you very much.
I add an 15" or 18" sub with EVs. never had an issue with volume. I use a sub that has High & Full Pass connections, which sends all my lows to the external sub. (I ONLY USE FOR A SMALL/MEDIUM 100PPL WEDDING)
Cool thanks for the info.
Love your videos I also have the L1Pro 16 and I was wondering how do you keep them for clipping. I notice when I am playing music at times I see the red blinks on at times, I do I avoid that. Is there a setting I need to do on the L1 Pro 16. Would love know your thoughts.

COULDNT AGREE WITH YOU MORE. I own pro16 evolve and pro32 sub2. Evolve has always let me down on headroom. I was thinking my settings were off. Nope. Bose out of the gate is effortless to get them cranking.
After owning a pair of the EV M30 and Bose. The EV’s are muddy in comparison.
Hey jpw pro bose l1 pro16 or jbl prx one while some say jbl could dig deeper in bass and which gives you better clarity
Thanks for watching Kenny! That's an interesting question. Honestly I have now Idea but I will look into that. Keep you posted.
@@jpwpro Most kind old chap !
Thanks for your input, glad they work better for you. Thanks for watching.
Couldn’t disagree more after owning both. Mid’s & Highs we’re far better on the Bose.
Youre confusing Headroom with your mixer... Each speaker is built and desinged differently. The Gains on the EVs are designed much differently than the Bose. For one speaker youll need to increase your master volume high enough versus the other being much more sensitive.
Yes, you are 100% right and that's what I figured out. Thanks for the input!
Who has the best reverb and vocal
I am wondering peoples thoughts for singers vs DJ applications. I have sung through a pair of EV 50s at a small venue and owned a Pro 8 for a while - I always thought the Bose had a little more sweetness to it for vocal/acoustic instrument applications.
how did you get the bose as a collumn? i always see the setup next to eachother not on top
It depends on what model you are looking at, Bose L1 pro 8 and 16 have the column on top and the 32 has it on the side.
Wow, sorry to hear this. No I don't have that issue.
Try switching from unbalanced to balanced cables.
Another option for a sub cover for the 50M is this...

Very helpful and I agree with 100%
Great and thanks for watching!
#teambose right here, love my l1 16’s. Great comparison!
I think you will be disappointed with that particular LD. There is also no head room like you were saying about the EV's. I think you might like the Dave 18 GX4 LD's. this is my next purchase.
I bought 2 pro 8s and the tower failed on both the ev 30m is built like a brick house 40 gigs in
Awesome review!!
Thank you!
I use the RANE FOUR and the Roland 707M and I only turn the Bose dial to four notch.
Is this the 50 or the 50m?
50
Do you think the 50m would fare better?
@@vu3088 I don't think the 50m would be any different as far as sound goes, I think the 50m is more about having more mixing/input options.
Thanks!
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching and donating 👍🏻
i heard the same thing. great video :)
No headroom? you have something wrong..... they work great
Nope, IMHO compared to the Bose L1Pro16s and the Maui 28 G3s they don't even come close. I do like the build quality and look of the EVs.
If I could have the Bose guts inside the EV shell that would be a perfect match IMHO✅
Got 3 wedding this weekend so I will have a good idea how the LD Maui 28s rank with these.
Please share with me I would life to reduce the wiggle as well. TY
EV’s more clarity? Not so after owning both. That’s one of the main points here. The EV is lacking in clarity.
Evox j8 mix is cheaper, lighter louder than those, and it have adjustable pole.
That's the one speaker brand I have not tried. I'm very curious how they would compare to the Bose, EVS and the LD's.
I have the Evox 12 system, simply amazing. I got lucky them got them before the price increase.
Demo please
I sure hope Bose is paying attention and watching these videos. I am hoping they redesign the column to make it more secure and sturdy. Thx for the video
Bottom line is if you want a system that can get loud, with punchy bass buy the Evolve.
If you want a system that doesn't make you cover your ears when you walk buy but fills the room with even coverage and very rich bass then buy the Pro16.
You get what you pay for.
To be honest, if you're looking to purchase the Evolves, spend a little extra money and buy the Pro16s. Hands down the best column for sound, size, and weight.
Use stanchions around your rig.
Why they not make other colours. I mean snow white looks terrible
The EV is also wiggling though lol
Not nearly as much
Not so. I owned both. EV’s mid’s and highs are muddy compared to the Bose. We also did a shoot out with another Pro, same result.
