Alone in Deepfall Breach is amazing as a brain storming tool, GM teaching tool, and tool for learning the game. So far, its my favorite part of the box set.
That's great! I've yet to play it, but I'd like to sometime. My good friend, Matt Click, was one of the creators of Alone in Deepfall Breach.
I used to play Drakar och Demoner in the nineties. Still have the boxes and was going to play with my friends when I found out about the new version. So, now it's time to gather the players and re-live old times.
Thanks for a great video
Biggest change: fighting is more streamlined and faster. A positive thing for at least me and my players.
@@SteveDahlskog I agree, there are many things in the new package that i like.
Sooo true. And it is more easy to play. Don't have to check the rulebook all the time.
@@johnnydeville1551 and the resistance table is gone and replaced with the /opponents’/resistance (whatever it is called in English) roll.
i have the core book and bestiary, friggin awesome books, i may never play that game specifically but the inspiration and artwork is immense
The adventure Road of glorys first part is a kin to the keep on the borderlands.. when i saw the two minotaurs.. A lot of old drakar och demoner players remember the encounters with them.. and the forest..
Get everything. It’s all good!
Really glad to see this kind of video for Dragonbane!
I just love when you do these high quality “buy” considerations videos. You do such a phenomenal job. ❤😊👏
Oh, yeah, the art by Johan is awesome.
Love Dragonbane. VERY easy yo use said stat " blocks" of monsters abd homebrew said new types or variations of Dragon. Got all books and such. Even pre-ordered the green faux leather and gold engravings of the limited edition bestiary and rule books
Always a nice surprise to see I missed one of your videos
Great review of a great product - the box set is so much value for dollar. Well worth the spend for everything you get. And I really enjoy the inversion of the d20 rules where 1s are crits (dragons). The game is fast-paced and fun.
I use the cloth map as a thematic table cloth during games It also makes a nice poster or painting if stretched and framed XD. But yea its to big to be a practical map at the table.
Hello i found this channel a month ago and i watch it a lot and already subscribed
Im going to fram my cloth map :)
Im sold!
I have both. I lend the soft cover to the players and keep the hard cover for me during the game.
Great review
My group has been slowly going through the box campaign and man is it fun.. only 1 character died so far, ofcourse it was mine :P
Magic book in the works too
Oh really? That’s cool. Where did you hear about this? I did a quick search and couldn’t find any information.
Such a great game.
Question about the box set. How is the binding on the soft cover rule book? Free League's quality is normally top tier, but it's always my biggest concern with soft bound books. Does the binding seem quality and durable?
Awesome!
Awesome!
In a not so distant future we are about to fire up a *Drakar och Demoner* Campaign, will be the first time in over 20 years i will be doing that, to say i am excited is a big understatment.. lol been playing DnD for the past 20+ years, so going back to where it all started for me in the really early 90´s.. :D
I'm very interested in this game, how to prepare and conduct a session, etc.
The solo adventure I think teaches and prepares you to run the game and ideas on how to prep.
9:46 I really wanna know if this book has solo rules. I would probably get a PDF if so.
How is Dragonbane vs EZD6?
A sample session?
i bought the bestiary in presale, but I didn't know I would need to buy it again for Foundry VTT to be allowed to use it in it... so I do regret buying it... For Path of Glory I've asked and it will also be available for Foundry VTT seperately, so I won't be buing the paper version since all our games are played using Foundry.
I really like the system and the campaign. Since we all have wifes and kids it's nice to be able to hop in and out without assle and simply jump into the fun. DnD is not super complex... but dragonbane is just so quick and light as a system it's awesome.
I mean everything, but they having to buy it twice thing. That stinks. It would be nice if they had a bundle with physical book and foundry.
Indeed. But I still bought it because the integration is super well made.
The learning curve of foundry is a little steep for the time I had, but it’s worth the trouble. My friends are using roll20 and fantasy ground, so I wasn’t sure about learning a new one, but damn it’s worth it. And the community seems quite active about producing stuff etc.
I can't decide between this and forbidden lands
Forbidden lands are "darker", critical hits are deadlier, contains rules for bases etc.
Dragonbane is "happier" but deadly as well, have "easier" rules for d&d only experienced players.
"Faster" gameplay is my experience.
@@SeldonnHari I like the exploration mechanics in forbidden lands hex map
I've been playing FL solo for a couple of sessions, and i think it's a rewarding experience. You will need to learn and circle the hex procedure to get a good flow of the game. I recommend getting the Book of Beasts for solo rules and maybe the solo expansion from DriveThroughRPG.
Well... looks like I'm gonna end up with it all 😅
They need to make those standees for the creatures and races in the bestiary. nothing worse than only having the ones that come with the box set and then you want to use the monsters in the bestiary and you get nothing to represent them.
They do though? Theres an extra set you can get that covers everything in the bestiary outside of the ones already included in the core box.
@@intothezombieapocalypse Monsters Standee Set. Its in the "Extras" section of the freeleague store.
I was super disappointed by the bestiary, too many redundant monsters from the boxset and too few new creatures unique to the game (I'm personally bored of minotaurs, chimeras, and mermaids in every setting, I want oddities that are new to me like the swan maiden or spider kin).
But more disappointing than the bestiary was for me, is that I can't convince any of my friends to play this game, whose rules I adore so much...
About 15 monsters in the core book, 63 in the bestiary. For me it is more than enough.
Very few people want the cards, standies or character sheets. We DO very much want the adventures and many will want a hardback book to match the monster Manuel. It's an underhanded selling scheme and i wish 'influencers" ( salesmen )would stop trying to act like it's a good thing somehow. And yeah, that monster art looks lazy ( cheap ) for today's standards. I wish these RPG companies would stop jacking us around. Good system ( I have the Quick-Start ) I just wish they didn't poop on it with insulting marketing / packaging tactics.
“Very few people”
I’d love to see your stats on that.
I can only speak for me. I think they’re a great inclusion. I’ve gotten very good use from them and found them to be handy gaming aids.
Dragon bane and One Ring 2e are fast becoming my go to games. Free league is amazing
I really want to love dragonbane, but when I look at a lot of the rules it just feels like a less polished 5th edition that works slightly differently and only have low lvl play. What is it that makes it so good in your opinion? As said i really want to love it. I grew up with the old editions and the brand is very close go my heart
@@bjornschaefer9856 I am another guy, but want to explaine .Less can be more. D&D and Pathfinder for example feel very overloaded to me. To play high level feels more like work than playing a game. The leveling feels also very immersion breaking because it makes no sense. Way too mechanical and technical. The scaling is just way too steep. My game of choice right now is Forbidden Lands, but Dragonbane also seems very attractive to me for the same reasons. I do not want 50 different classes, when I can get them all in a much simpler way. Free League games just feel so cozy and real and have a sense of grit and intimacy that I miss in the big games. Also those games do not try to sell me so much of so little value. Too many books with too much stuff I do not need and find to be superfluous.
I give you one example in dragons.
D&D and Pathfinder have like a trillion different Dragons in color. They are also differentiated in age. Dragonbane only has dragons classified in age, which is absolutly enough. They can have the color you want. You can change and play with them how you like and make them how you want and it is very simple. It does not feel as rigit.
In Forbidden Lands for example it is so refreshingly easy to create your own NPCs and Monsters and I believe it is similar in Dragonbane. These games just feel really good.
@@bjornschaefer9856 I'm still looking into Dragonbane myself, but it seems to have a fair amount of classic OSR style mindset to it, but with a lot of modern QOL improvements. It's a little lighter, litter more freeform, little more narrative than D&D is. Monster's, for example, don't really even have stats. Certainly not a full stat block. Instead they just have a list of possible special attacks they do and a description of behaviors, and as a DM you just roll a die to see which one they use each round and decide who it targets. Also, all die rolling is PC side and simplified. You always know the DC of every check as a player, because it's always roll under. There are no modifiers of any kind, and instead it just uses a flat advantage system. Monsters don't even roll for anything, they're presumed to automatically hit unless players successfully dodge, block, or parry. As someone who gave up on D&D in favor of almost any other fantasy RPG (mostly just due to burnout, system is still fine really) I am intrigued. Also, anthro ducks. I want to make a Mallard ranger/vigilante character and name him Dark Wing.
@@bjornschaefer9856what mechanics do you not like about DB compared to 5e? What makes it “less polished”?
@@EvanDuly At first glance I think it looked a little cobbled together cus I'm so used to seeing the 5e like mechanics in a different game than DB. Now when i've started to get more familiar with the system tho I do see so many fun little things with it. There's a lot of mechanical depth that I'm looking forward to sink my teeth in
