Had to pause. Trampoline and bulbs. Effing awesome. Was with Wild Bill and Cindi at Smiths Battery last year and ran into Charlie giving a tour. Kids , dogs, and strollers. Looked at us like a kidnapping victim trying to get a message out. What a great guide, storyteller and man.
The Gettysburg Battlefield Memorial Association put it up. John Bachelder was the man behind it and he funded it personally and however else he could. He got some states to contribute. None of them southern, according to the monument. npsgnmp.wordpress.com/2013/07/20/the-high-water-mark-monument/ gettysburg.stonesentinels.com/other-monuments/high-water-mark-of-the-rebellion/#google_vignette
Lol apostrophes do not dictate pronunciation, if I recall. They show possession. I argue that it may have been GET-TISS when James founded the town. And it may have been pronounced that way up to and through the battle. BUT, the nation and the world got a hold of the name and pronounced it the commonly assumed way and, for better or worse, it’s now and forever “Gett-EES-burg”.

I was at the 135th as well. I was a Union Infantryman. Probably the best reenactment I ever attended. 🙂
It was awesome
only Chaz Fenny can make the E.P.L. somewhat interesting....
I'm just glad they tucked it away into a corner and out of sight.
lol “Chaz Fenny”. Why are you glad they tucked it away?
At 22;00 - Who paid for the 1892 High Water Mark of the Rebellion Monument? Did both sides contribute to that I wonder?

There is no apostrophe in Gettysburg. So it is pronounced Gettisburg. Meant in Tim Smith curmudgeonly way! :)😂
