  • A 4 month project that I have been working on that is a portfolio piece on The Protomen's Breaking out song. I have an HD version of this in the works and minor tweaks here and there but I am liking it.
a lot of thanks to everyone involved including the actor and actress Deryk and Amanda and "the band" Seth and Jamie (also lead editor) Matt for letting me borrow the most metal bike ever and Caylan for tech support and being the drunk on film, Michael, Sarah, Travis, and Andrew thanks for being extras also Zach for helping with the helmet and street view scenes and the Viking for letting me film at their bar and putting up with my filming shit and finally Scott letting me film at the skill center and being the reason I am doing videos in the first place.
and a special thanks to the protomen for giving me great source material.

I would say the biggest thing to keep in mind when doing a project like this is having everything lined up, as in having your story boards and scripts ready and having a plan set out. Everything I did was very deliberate in the way of how I set up shots and trying to keep to the original story, obviously I had to make some scenes different for continuity sake. My advice to you is don't get discouraged and be creative with your problem solving. Good luck and shot me a message if you finish it.

This was a really cool project. I am fortunate I got to work with you on this. Hope you have been doing well as it has been a long time since we communicated. I am doing good, still learning and growing.

I know it sounds like I'm being picky, but I just wish the musical scenes with instruments would match up with the music, as well with the lip syncing. But it's still a great video.

It needs work, lip syncing and stuff. but anything that gives me a new appreciation of my favorite song I DIG. Keep working on this, man.

@ghostkamikaze I agree with removing footage of singing and playing. I think it detracts from the flow of the video as well potentially confusing viewers as to whose song this is. Other than that its pretty rad.
This is Beardedfury from the comm.

All right, it's really cool that you're trying to make an awesome video for this awesome song, but... you did ask for criticism. I know it will kill a lot of the video footage here, but you should probably cut out any of the stuff with these peeps singing. Not that it's all terrible, but most of it looks fairly cheesy, and it's not your song anyhow. It looks like you've got a decent theme here, but... maybe flesh it out better? I think you should keep working at it.

@Garrett Colegate I agree totally with you, I came out with a portfolio version that had better sync but didn't update this version because I figured i got what i wanted from it. I also didnt really have the original band so a lot of the cast were not professional actors, but it was still a fun project.
