- In this video we explore the area we are camped in. Some interesting finds included goldfish. Then back to camp to grill up dinner.
Thank you for being here.
*My name is Brian. I started living full time in a self built camper van in 2014 in my hometown of San Diego, CA. I hit the road full-time in 2015 to pursue seasonal work and travel around the U.S. I find free camping on public land and enjoy photography, hiking, biking, and kayaking in nature. Join me on my adventures.
Thanks for watching!

I looked it up: the goldfish clean up algae and insect larvae. Cool!
Not unusual. Rancher goes to pet shop and buys a bag of young gold fish to put in a water pond or two. After that just keep spreading them around. Protects cattle and horses from mosquito carrier diseases while feeding the fish. 😊
yep , but they still poop in it...hmmm
@@angel4874
Irl, there is no way to avoid poop. Unless you're an extreme germaphobic wrapped in plastic, taking an alcohol bath and sterilizing every thing you touch your going to consume poop. But that is also why I mentioned a water filter. Besides, if your used to fields with large critters you're going to step in it. Even eating critters means some poop with them. Still, cleanliness is better than infecting yourself. 🥴💩
TY!
I have a pond in the yard, goldfish work great for it, and less mosquitoes. 👍
That green stuff is called chrysacola and is caused by copper. ☮️
The bird’s nest is for a cactus wren. They make nests in saguaros and chollas. The state bird of Arizona.
Gotta tell ya Brian, you helped me out this morning. My 20 year old grandson passed away April 7th in a car accident, and mornings are very hard for me. He was more like my son. This video brought some calm over me and helped get me going to face the day. Thank you.
Life hunter so very sorry for your loss. I can understand how this particular video of Brian’s helped you through the morning. This was a peaceful beautiful calm look at Mother Nature and how she also heals our souls by her beauty in the desert. 🌵
lifehunter6426, so sorry for your loss. Please take care of yourself and try to get out in nature if you can, it really help's. It may be helpful to find a grief support group. Losing loved ones is really hard especially when they are so young.
So sorry for your loss 🙏🏿 Brian's videos are good for your soul 🙏🏿
Thank you Brian for the wonderful video. Always look forward to the next one. Be safe out there!
I am sorry for your loss. May God bless you & your loved ones 🙏🙏💞
In this crazy world I come here to see a calming video of a man in a van. Thanks B
I feel relaxed watching you relaxing, life is too short not too stop and soak in mother nature’s beauty!😊
From Microsoft Copilot: Natural Cleaning: Goldfish can help keep the water trough clean. They feed on algae growing on the trough walls and floor, as well as mosquito larvae and some insects that may fall into the water. Their natural behavior contributes to maintaining water quality.
Exactly what I came to say. A well known technique.putting some frogs around a natural spring source works the same. Or turtles. Sometimes cattle tanks contain brine shrimp like large desert hollows in rocks with shade or fairy shrimp they're called too.
The SW is rugged, harsh and if unprepared deady too. That dead calf is sometimes a person. But that subtle beauty is always present and if you grow up in it there's no better, unreal enchantment.
I grew up in the deserts of the SW. I first learned to swim in a large circular, metal cow tank. Loved the mossy lichen sliding under my feet and green toes. Loved lounging in it as cows showed up, drank and wondered what kind of aquatic creature I was. 😅
Always happy to get the notification that you have a new video!
Wow! The glories of mother nature.
HEY! Hello Brian , Kelly and Hobbs!
Thanks for the video, Brian. Another enjoyable one.
Love watching the day go by 😊
I hear people talking about "forest bathing" nowadays. You've brought us "desert bathing." Thanks for sharing!
That "boulder" was a lot bigger than I thought! I love the desert geology too.

I was waiting for a comment on the Goldenbergs! We're hooked on them now😆
We're all the way back in CT on the way to Vermont, but really missing the desert. Already looking forward to coming back in fall. ❤

The box van twins! I like that alternate name!
I really like asparagus marinated in Italian dressing and then grilled
New Mexico is one word if I was to explain majestic.
Those peanut chews are a hood classic growing up in the 80s South Bronx
Just drove through NM with a stop at the Gila National forest. Never realized how beautiful and peaceful NM is. The spot where you camped looks incredible. Enjoy the peace and nature.
Brian great video thanks for taking us on your walk. Kelly seems really nice and that dinner looked scrumptious!
Thanks for the adventure hike, and really thanks for not going down the mine shafts! Nice to have good food at the end. Another perfect day.
What beautiful country to wake up to those views thank you for bringing us along
Those goldfish are lucky they are off the beaten path of herons:). As always, great vid Brian❤
The bird's nest was for a Cactus Wren...a bird native to the deserts of the southwestern U.S. and northern Mexico.
I enjoyed the gold fish, too! Your videos are both beautiful and calming. Thank-you so much. Oh, yes...your food makes me HUNGRY!
Beautiful video again, so enjoyable to watch, relaxing music, great food, that asparagus and kilbasa dish makes me hungry, always tastes better when cooking outdoors! Thank you for posting.
Nice place to kick back. Very cool you brought a chair & snacks. Time to take it all in 😊
👍😎
It's getting warm!
Thanks for the walk about with you!
What an interesting area. Wondering what the snow capped mountain range was. This was such a peaceful video. Thanks!
Chiricahuas, I rode over there and explored in my previous video.
Well that was cool! Some of those stone features almost looked like statues of people.
thanks for the scenic hike out in nature! that asparagus looked soooooo good.
Hi Brian, Kelly and Hobbs, beautiful video!!❤🎉
Nice video. Those were neat mines. I wouldn't go in them either. Great cacti, and rock formationd. Those goldfish are pulling double duty. 🙂👍
Perhaps the goldfish also eat any bug larvae? Very interesting fordable chair! This seemed like a nice peaceful day.
✌️✌️💪🏻👍🏻👍🏻👋👋 adventure continues ✝️
Pretty cool camp site out in the back country. There must have been someone out there for quite a long time to dig a mine and drill a well and build a tank with Gold fish in it.. You would think that those mines would be better closed off. Take care enjoy your time.
The good fish and the moss help keep the water clean and healthy.
Such gorgeous views! Just sitting watching the clouds' shadows moved across the land....
Awesome desert 🏜 scenery 👌 👍
like you, i find being in nature a great way to practice mindfulness
This was a very inspiring video Brian! Thank you so much.
I have seen gold fish in water tanks on West Texas cattle ranches.
cryptids can be encountered in old mines. I would not drink any water with goldfish in it. find some bresd crumbs or keep fish food handy. lol You are so chill. Nice to see you.
Lol, I meant coming straight out of the pipe.😆
Got up early, watched you talk about walking around the mountain and woke up later missing the entire video haha. Very relaxing stuff as always, keep it up! Thanks! ( rewatched haha)
Hello Brian love watching your videos. Hello to Kelly and Hobbs

Thanks for what you do. ❤
AVM...livin large and in charge...luv it and can't wait to be there ✌️ in the west
Always a pleasure when you bring us along for an adventure. ❤
Cowboys put goldfish in those tanks to keep down the algae.
Looks like one fine day!
A Classic Adventure day with Brian in the Southwest. Super kool walk and random things out there. Awesome!!🤙🤙👍🇺🇲🇺🇲🏁🏁🙏🙏Be blessed ya all.
Nicely made. Thanks for posting. Cool the hot water down by adding a bit of cold water? That’s how I roll
Yep... it's copper... got it all around me here in NV. Great video... sure miss being out on the road. Safe travels!!
Beautiful area, thanks!
Well, I can take off my imaginary hiking boots now after this great hike. I could almost taste that asparagus!
❤️
The house next to me is a rental and the guy pays $3250 a month for that roof, he also has a new 100k dually Chevy truck and I'm sure the payment is at least $1500. I can see why you live the way you do Brian. Easy going and enjoying the open road......away from the rat race. Timmy C Arizona
Fun exploratory meander. Thanks!
Would’ve been funny if you would have added a flying saucer behind you when you first sat down 🛸😂
…the vibe in this one. ❤
Nice hike. Love the desert. Meal looks good. I have a green rock I'm wondering if it copper. 🤔. Have a good night 😊
Another great vid, thanx.
We used to have goldfish in our horse trough. They eat the mosquitoes and their larvae. And tickle the horses noses when they drink. I think the fish were eating the chewed up grass from the horses mouths. And I’m sure they kept the algae under control.
Great video, thanks Brian. Take care.
Absolutely beautiful video. ❤
“Be in it” sounds like a good quote for a tee shirt.
What a sweet and peaceful expedition. 👍
You can drink from such cattle water, but would taste better and be safer to carry a portable water filter on a hike. And a few food bars, a hat, neckerchief, knife (always carry a sheath knife), some small diameter nylon rope, sunscreen, sun glasses, fire starter, first aid ⛑️ kit, flashlight, a cell phone 📱 and reflective mirror. All in one small back pack. A couple pounds is barely any weight, but could save your life. Never leave camp without it.
I have seen most of your videos and had the extreme pleasure of being at two of your meet ups but that chair part of this video just says it all. I feel sorry for the people that don't understand.
Really enjoyed this one! Peace
Ty for sharing your adventures. ✌️
Cool stuff, looks fun and chill.
Hey Brian, cactus wren

Great editing Brian. Take care
Cool video Brian. Watching from Kingman Arizona 👍
Goldfish are resilient like cockroaches. Except the ones from the county fair. Those die within 24 hours.
🤣
A lovely bit of nature, very interesting & relaxing. Peace ✌️
Thanks for your video!
