@Nancy Ajram Fan at least with how I was taught, it is because we wish to keep the name of G-d as sacred-in the sense that, should the piece of writing that the name is written on be destroyed-it is not “destroying” the name of G-d, which is sacred…but just an abbreviation. Anyway, there may be other reasons I’m not thinking of at the moment, but that’s the top one that’s coming to mind.

I agree. The reality is the more time passes, the more wrong things become normalized in our society. Not necessarily on the topic of hijab, but just many things. I agree 100% that some influencers don't respresent the hijab as it should however , I disagree with you too. Islam also tells you that there is nobody worse than the hypocrits. So if you're wearing hijab for every reason other than your relationship for Allah, if you decide to take a break she has every right to take it off. Secondly , we are unaware compeletely of that person's relationship with Allah. I know women and I influencers who wear hijab but don't even pray and I know women who don't wear hijab yet dress modest and practice Islam in a beautiful way. You cannot surround yourself with people you agree with 100% of the time because that's not realistic.

I totally agree with this, I reverted back in 2013 and I followed so many hijabi’s who I looked up to and motivated me to wanting to wear hijab.. then they started taking it off.. broke my heart.. I also fell away from my faith but Alhamdulillah Allah guided me back. Now I wear hijab and have been so much better about practicing my deen. I had to start unfollowing people who took me away from it.. it has helped so much. May Allah continue to guide us, I pray he rewards you.

Girl can I just say, you are so dang refreshing! Like a glass of water I needed after a day of fasting in Ramadan in some July ass heat. I have been wanting to be an influencer for so long, but seeing how eventually hijabs (which I am) succumb to pressure on the internet and take off the hijab eventually, it makes me want to not even get on here and be tempted because quite honestly I am wearing my hijab in a place where there's no one else like me near me, my family is far away, I never see other Muslims and I struggle alot with it, many people around me are hostile towards Muslims as well. So, to see you holding firm and strong is AMAZING!!!!! Mashallah, may Allah help you always keep your faith strong in this stuff, and keep you having this beautiful integrity.
I follow a sister who blew up on Instagram because of her conversion to Islam, her journey as a Hijabi and her style. What I love is that If she posts something that isn't the way of Islam she lets it be known that what she is doing is not the right way and that she is working on it. Instead of influencers who ignore, block (unless for mental health of course ) and blow up on people who care about them.
This is good progress, she is being honest, rather than hiding around the new image she is displaying. At this moment, it's up to you to decide how this will impact you. Everyone is different.

Yeah I was following someone and she was a teen raised in a religious conservative family and made videos on dressing modestly. I went on her ig and saw her wearing half tops and makeup after disappearing off UA-cam for some months. She also dyed her hair. This are all things she used to be against. She then got a boyfriend and she is now a teen mom.

How is it that hijabis always talk about other hijabis who show a bit of hair, wear half sleeves etc but never talk about hijabis who wear tons of makeup and tight clothes. If hijab means dressing and acting modest how is a full face of makeup displaying modesty??
It doesn't matter what type of hijab someone wears, most Muslims (both men and women) are judging and putting hijabi women down. The one thing I wish these overrated "influencers" would stop doing is JUTIFYING and DENYING doing anything wrong. They literally are mocking Islam by saying "im Muslim but I dont follow anything Islam says, defend my public sins, and put people down if tell me I'm doing anything wrong." That's like someone being Christian and saying they enjoy burning bibles. I'm not saying muslim = perfect, or how dare these women take if off, but they don't even have the shame anymore to admit it's wrong or a religious violation. Respectfully I don’t agree with you on that. I think wearing hijab is a very personal decision, many wore them because parent told them to or besides that I think anyone should be able to cover or uncover without any opinion unless asked for it. If you’d like to try what worked for me… I only wore hijab at home for months before wearing it outside. It helped me feel comfortable with a new look and style in the safety of my own home, so when I left the home the headscarf became a safe haven even while out in public. 🥰
I think your trying to get your message across and I personally respect that it's actually very good for young people to understand the aspect of social media and how it can affect them negatively... when it comes to Islamic believes and its law, I would like to address one matter which I feel many people don't understand... The term hijab... Hijab its not only the scarf you where on the head but any type of beatification is also under hijab law.. Especially makeup Muslim are not allowed to wear it in public and also perfume when going out..i believe Allah has elevated Muslim women to be confident in themselves and embrace their natural beauty..so many women have a problem that they can't go out in public without makeup it makes them insecure.. I find it offensive when these people have “influencer” in their bio. They then post a video about removing the hijab and that no one should follow them. Bro, your job is to post ads about certain items and things so we are influenced to buy them. But it doesn’t only apply to products or tangible things. It applies to how they carry themselves, their lifestyles, the image they put out. Like you said, they have to be responsible with what they post. And deny the fact they have any influence on people is ridiculous, tell that to the brands that pay you then.
Someone's journey is between them and God, not anyone else's business. So it is also not right with God for us to judge and disfellowship someone who takes a different journey IMO. There is no compulsion in Islam. It is stated in the Quran but culture in some circles over-rides it. Pretty much all my sisters and closest friends wear a scarf. I don't. I am not bothered if someone wears one or doesn't. If they speak modestly, dress modestly, are humble in their actions, follow the 5 pillars and don't hurt others or back bite, then this matters to me. I've seen covered and uncovered Muslims act awful. It isn't the hijab that would influence my choices in following someone . If it was, I guess my social circle would mean I wear one. I think it is sad that a person could be swayed to take it off, because they don't feel strongly enough in it. Also Muslim influences might get intimated in putting it on for risking losing followers and that is sad also. Be true to yourself no matter what. No one is going to the grave with you. It is between you and Allah.
I thought there was no compulsion in Islam? Modesty comes in many ways. It is a huge gray area that is largely subjective. For example, some schools of thought are against wearing makeup. One's area to "draw the line" may differ from others. I think living by the Golden Rule is best. Treat others how you want to be treated.
It’s very nice to hear just your opinions and I feel so bad sometimes when I see beautiful Muslim influencers or small bloggers etc and start to remove for makeup and fashion purposes and I can’t even imagine to understand breaking away from that physical representation of faith . As someone who dad is a Christian pastor and now I study more world religious spirituality and practice Buddhism I find it like there was a time I totally was never spiritual or in touch with any religious text or reading and now I’m on my journey back to listening and learning and it’s like you said in ways a journey . I think many probably feel like societal pressure because there are those boundaries pushed or many encouraging who don’t have the best thoughts for that person. I think much of social media is controlled by the male gaze at times and it can feel nice for once to be praised instead of facing negativity and what happens is then you fall into that space where praise outweighs morality and spiritual practice. It’s not “popular” and “cool” to practice modesty , be open about religion, to do all that . Many want to just kinda forget about any other worldly obligations and just scroll and post whatever. I honestly think with the strength and perseverance and almost motherly teaching role you and many other strong women are taking you can be part of the solution representing strong willed successful women in the space while still following closely to your faith. Take all this with a grain of salt I think you are beautifully spoken and very educated and I just love hearing your point of view and so thankful you made the video for us to learn and add into the conversation . 💜✨

I think it is still judgmental that you just diss them because at the end of the day it is about who the person is not how they are dressed. Just because they removed the hijab doesn't mean they are not the same person.
How is unfollowing someone judging? I often clean the list of people i follow and sometimes i unfollow some people simply because their content does not relate to my lifestyle anymore. No judgement in that. So when someone you follow (because you relate to their hijab content and ",hijabi lifestyle") decides to remove hijab, that which related me to them, i simply unfollow because i no longer will find the hijab content i initially followed them for.
I really appreciate this video and I think lots of other influencers should be honest and speak up too! I just want to talk briefly about the judging part. Personally I think it's ok to judge people. The word "judge" is taken out of context nowadays. According to the dictionary, 'to judge' is a verb used to form an opinion or decision about someone. Every single day we make opinions about people whether it's our loved ones, our children's friends, teachers, influencers, the politicians etc. And that's okay because sometimes we need to allow these opinions of ours to 'judge' others in order to make decisions like if a doctor or clinic has had negative reviews by many people...will you still go there and think no I won't judge?
I agree 100% There is a difference between judging by having r your own ideas and making your own opinions with critical thinking (which is healthy) and between bashing, belittling and humiliating someone who made a mistake. Also no one is entirely good or bas so just cuz someone made a mistake doesn't make them a bad person. At the same time this doesn't make the mistake ok. Wrong is wrong. We shouldn't normalize it

I don’t wear the hijab but ur video reminded me of a influencer I was following who wore the hijab prior to becoming extremely popular on Instagram and then when she hit 900k followers she went from wearing hijab to the extreme where it wasn’t just removing the hijab it was wearing bikini, short skirt, short tops. I have nothing against anyone doing that but you said it perfectly when u said we need to be “humble”. Fame and fortune should not throw away your whole belief system.

Great points! It’s kinda like someone can commit all the sins they want and at the end of the day, God is truly their judge. But it becomes a collective problem when they publicise their sins and it’s no longer just affecting them but other believers at large, not only with the possibility of leading them to sin but also leading them to question their beliefs.

Consider someone who's struggling with wearing the hijab and then they find an influencer who makes them confident to wear it and still be "cool". Said influencer then goes ahead and removes her hijab. How is that struggling hijabi supposed to feel? You are already struggling wearing your hijab, the person who gave you motivation removes hers, you might start considering taking off yours. This Is just an example People have the right to choose what they want in their feed, whom they want to influence their lives. It's not "abandonment". Chances are I would have probably followed a lot of these ex hijabi influencers if they had started out their careers not wearing the hijab. But because I followed them solely for their hijabi lifestyle, I can unfollow when they remove it. We are all struggling with faith and iman so let people do what they want to make things easier for them.no one is claiming self righteousness. To give an example of a non hijabi influencer, Danielle Biah, I follow her because I like her energy and content, she's never worn the hijab and that's okay with me. I don't believe in harassing anyone for not wearing or removing their hijab that's completely unislamic, I simply unfollow and go about my life.

We are all on a journey and we respect all our sisters who struggle to wear appropriate attire and behave respectfully with the opposite gender, but it needs to be said that it’s not okay. We have to encourage and remind each other because it’s so easy to be led by the dunya. Personally it’s helped me to follow influencers that have better hijab than me.
I too unfollowed influencers who took off the hijab. I did that because when they removed the hijab they acted as if it’s a liberating thing and also got LOTS AND LOTS of support from foreign non Muslim influencers on the matter (when they shouldn’t have stuck their nose on the matter) and it pissed me off (it’s like they’re trying to say “see, this is what good looks like, that’s what gets us to applaud to you support you and recognize you here on this platform, in this secular world or western world or social media in General” I unfollowed because i was interested in what they do/seeing some nice fashion ideas but mainly because they where hijabjs and somewhat relatable and made representation for us But after the matter I realize how some of them where showing doubt in Islam and were sharing they’re questions and doubts in their stories, when they where struggling spiritually instead of turning to Allah and making dua and keeping it a secret they went and confided in social media the general public (which IMO isn’t the best place especially it being “social media” your not exalt gonna get the wisest people there or the scholars but young impressionable kids and a few adults who may or may not be swayed by this worldly life) and so they looked into their followers and got some perspective from them instead of Allah and Islam and Quran the holy book that guides us and teaches us through eras unto the future till the day of judgment There’s a lesson for everyone in it So there was of course actions and points that lead to them making that big unnecessary decision of taking off the hijab (if they lived somewhere in Europe or America, a place where there is more hate towards Islam/Islamaphobia crime and attacks against Muslims) then I’d totally understand, as Allah made the religion to make our life easier and don’t to make the religion a burden on us So hence when being in a society where they view the headscarf very negativity to the point where it puts you in danger. Then you have the right to take it off and “blend in” not saying that you should go naked, no! You can have your hair out but still dress modestly and not reveal your curves etc And it should be fine Modest and among the crowd blended so it sagas and you look part of the society and not stand out like a sore thumb But if you choose to stick to the hijab despite the negative perceptive that expiry you live in has on it, then it’d be like jihad and Allah would reward you for hanging on to it and enduring the hardship Either way it’s fine and your choice But the influencers I unfollowed loved in Middle East Dubai like… why? The people don’t disrespect nor do they fight against you, so there is nothing stopping or making it hard for you to be hijabi there That’s what Pisses me off because they choose to trade diamonds (the hereafter) with stones(this Dunya) and share it shamefully to the world as if it’s something to be proud of. Ya lateef may Allah protect us from such conditions and ideas So I don’t to be part of what they’re doing and I don’t encourage the image and messes they’re combating to young influential Muslim girls ( I was a teen when I witnessed my favorite influencers Muslims models taking off their hijab and it hurt me really, made me very disappointed) But it’s between them and Allah in the end of the day and they’ll be accountable for what they have done and what kind of influence they had on people It’s sad honestly May Allah guid them may Allah guid us towards the straight path towards imaan taqwaa yarab That’s All I got to say and may Allah ease our troubles and hardships

I can honestly say that as someone who never questioned the hijab, and wore it almost my entire life, when influencers began taking it off three years ago, I started to have subtly negative thoughts on hijab. There was an increasing discourse within the hijabi community on whether hijabi was even beneficial or necessary. Once I realized this was happening, I made the choice to unfollow ex-hijabi individuals. It’s important to always remember that it’s one thing to follow non-hijabi Muslim influencers who have started their platform with this precedent- versus people who establish their platform on the basis of being a hijabi influencer and gain a following for this reason. My faith can still benefit from choosing to follow non-hijabi Muslim women whose content and values align with my own. But the same cannot be said of the latter. May Allah bless and reward you for having the courage to speak your mind in a beautiful way 💕
exactly agree with this video, I always unfollow without saying anything negative to those girls, just not to be affected myself by them removing hijab. recently I even started not to follow or unfollow those who I feel like their hijab shrinks, cause this is also affects me in a negative way.
100%!!! I follow people bc I want to be influenced a certain way. If I see that they no longer represent what i initially followed them for, I can’t stay. I never say anything, bc it’s their decision, but that decision affects me in a way that I can no longer be there for. So I’m out.
A revert myself , I use to wear hijab in mid 90s, hijabs as we have now weren’t not available then so wore those square scarves, however I was wearing for wrong reason, and eventually stopped wearing and although I continued in believing in god my practice of faith stopped. Fast forward to last year , I was coming back to Islam and this year started again wearing the hijab, praying but all for the right right reasons, cannot stress that enough. You are spot on with this video, when you see someone take off their hijab or take on or off other values, it can leave you thinking whether you are doing the right thing or second doubt yourself, or maybe if they don’t need religion or other maybe we don’t need either. Just like driving a car, we look in a rear mirrors and front mirror to see who is around us, same way we need to keep a check on people we listen/watch, things start to effect us in small doses that it gets unnoticed even by our own selves, at the end of the day remind yourself why you started follow in the first place.

It does take guts b/c in today’s world saying things like this ppl can become so sensitive to your words they take it completely out of context. I agree with you so much on the idealization of other ppl. In fact I don’t even like that word b/c I hear the word “idol” and I think of idol workshopping. & not to sound too deep but it’s the way ppl look up to influencers and celebrities it does become modern day idol worship. Very true Mira! This is the issue I had. I am a normal person just like everyone. I think the issue is when I started to idolize some influencers, to the extent it shocked me when they made a choice I was not proud of , if I took myself. It is a sensitive topic, no doubt, but I was very careful in my choice of words and hope that it is only a positive message for everyone. At the end of the day, staying true is the ultimate goal. The thing is, sharing feelings even in a positive way, or giving sincere advice is seen negative by some of these influencers. It’s sad. One time I private messaged an Influencer that I really loved and respected. I gave her some sincere advice in the most respectful way possible. I’ve never done that before but I really admired this one influencer, so I decided to give her some advice. But, all she did was block me and it really upset me. It’s sad that we can’t even give advice these days. Like you said best thing to do is just unfollow.
Maybe she heard advice from every side and felt hurt by people telling and advising her how to live. I think everyone should respect other people’s decisions and not try to change them based on personal values. Even if it hurts you to see her having another lifestyle than you we can accept that and still celebrate them.
@@inikalinden7335 it’s our responsibility as Muslims to remind our sisters and brothers when they are doing something wrong, it comes out of love for them and fear for them to go into the hellfire. There’s nothing wrong with what this sister did by giving an influencer some advice in a respectful manner. It is actually a sin for us as Muslims to keep our mouths shut when we are seeing someone openly sinning.

Do you get involved when you hear about sexual assault, child abuse, domestic violence made by anyone you know or do you prefer to mind your business?
@@RadiantVeils I speak from personal experience and from my experience the same people who claim its their duty to tell a Muslim if they are sinning and advising them are the same people that keep their mouth shut, avoid involvement or supporting victims of abuse in the Muslim community or families. Those same people are the ones to suddenly claim they want to be neutral, don't want to get involved, don't know the details of the situation, etc.

I agree what you say about drawing lines and not crossing lines etc, in that same line of thinking, why do you think it’s okay to speak about modesty and sell hijabs if you wear so much makeup. Not judging but a sincere question. We all know as hijabis that makeup is the opposite of hijab as it is meant to beautify us. So why is it that makeup is ok? Don’t you think that the same impressionable young girls you speak of will be wrongly influenced by the full face of makeup you and the models of your hijabs wear? If you truly believe in providing hijabs and promoting modesty, shouldn’t you do that properly, without makeup on yourself and your models? Why should people also not unfollow you since makeup and beautify oneself in front of men we aren’t related to is a sin?

MashAllah you’re so brave for saying this. It seems like trying to express any disapproval for things you truly believe are wrong even in a respectful manner is construed as hating these days. I’m glad someone with a following finally addressed this issue as many people aren’t aware of how strong the power of influence truly is and how impressionable we as humans are. What we consume is what we become and it’s important to be selective about what/who we allow into our lives in order to protect our iman.

No you wrong. Most of the time influencers remove Hijab because they did not believe in the first place, and was wearing it because of Islamic that demand women to wear a Hijab or get’s punishment.
Zahraa, thank you for the video, I enjoyed hearing your perspective. I think it’s a two-way street. I defintely agree with the notion that who you follow will heavily influence your life as well and as a follower, you do have the freedom to choose who you follow based on your own personal understanding of how this person influences your life. You defintely do have the right to unfollow. With that being said, I feel like the flip side of that is we don’t know what the reasons for someone removing hijab is and all of us struggle with our iman at times-no one is safe from that happening to them. I think when we stop supporting someone for doing so, it can also put a lot of shame in them and push them further away from the deen. I know it’s not our responsibility as followers to support and everyone has the right to expose themselves to who they choose, but as an ummah, I also feel that it’s important to support one another because that’s what we need when we are down, that’s the role of a community. Personally, I feel like continued supported could present the possibility of lifting that person and guiding them back to goodness inshAllah. I do understand where you’re coming from as well. Just thought I would offer that perspective because I really think support among the ummah, for the strong believer and the one who’s down etc., is super important. Thankyou so much for this video.. you might not know but this popped up so randomly I was just having thoughts of taking my hijab off because i felt like at my workplace the management kind of differentiate the hijabees and non hijabees. And that bothered me a lot . And just was thinking like if i take of my hijab maybe my life would be a little better but i was having doubts and very uneasy to think about taking off it but then i saw this video and it definitely helped me a lot . I think as a moslem, who knows that removing the hijab is wrong, we have to give that influencer an advice on how this is not god for herself first and then how it effects all these girls......(of course in a good way like the islam thougt us), so that maybe she will return and do what´s right. Because we are moslems and we have to stand for each other. I would like for someone to give me an advice too when I do something wrong because we are all humans and we all won´t do the right thing all the time and sometimes we just get influenced by the community.

It’s important to unfollow women who remove their hijab or women who dress not very modest. Not saying I’m superior to them but just because I too am a human with desires and shortcomings. If I see women this way or influencers I can easily be swayed that way. I prefer a life where I am covered and company is very important. Including who you follow and see on instagram.

I am not a Muslim yet but I feel like I'm in an inward process of becoming one. I do happen to have an opinion on this topic though! I agree with you. I get that everyone is 'on their own journey' but them being on their 'own journey' doesn't change the unchangeable essence of Islam and the code of its adherence. I think non-hijabi Muslim women just aren't seriously devout. I think modern individualism bleeds into everything and this is an example. People need to understand the meaning of judging There is a difference between judging by having your own ideas and making your own opinions with critical thinking (which is healthy) and between bashing, belittling and humiliating someone who made a mistake. An informative video. Glad you dont have any hatred. However, i think some people actually need help. As a muslim myself, i believe i've gone through some things which no muslim nor human being should have to go through. I was put through some of them things by fellow muslims, one incident even happened in the holy country of Saudi Arabia, how does that make a person feel. Whenever i sit down to pray, i think of God, the holy land (Saudi) then this incident always pops into my head. @Nancy Ajram Fan at least with how I was taught, it is because we wish to keep the name of G-d as sacred-in the sense that, should the piece of writing that the name is written on be destroyed-it is not “destroying” the name of G-d, which is sacred…but just an abbreviation. I agree 100% that some influencers don't respresent the hijab as it should however , I disagree with you too. Islam also tells you that there is nobody worse than the hypocrits. So if you're wearing hijab for every reason other than your relationship for Allah, if you decide to take a break she has every right to take it off. Secondly , we are unaware compeletely of that person's relationship with Allah. I know women and I influencers who wear hijab but don't even pray and I know women who don't wear hijab yet dress modest and practice Islam in a beautiful way. You cannot surround yourself with people you agree with 100% of the time because that's not realistic.

I also fell away from my faith but Alhamdulillah Allah guided me back. Now I wear hijab and have been so much better about practicing my deen. Girl can I just say, you are so dang refreshing! Like a glass of water I needed after a day of fasting in Ramadan in some July ass heat. I have been wanting to be an influencer for so long, but seeing how eventually hijabs (which I am) succumb to pressure on the internet and take off the hijab eventually, it makes me want to not even get on here and be tempted because quite honestly I am wearing my hijab in a place where there's no one else like me near me, my family is far away, I never see other Muslims and I struggle alot with it, many people around me are hostile towards Muslims as well. So, to see you holding firm and strong is AMAZING!!!!! Mashallah, may Allah help you always keep your faith strong in this stuff, and keep you having this beautiful integrity.
I follow a sister who blew up on Instagram because of her conversion to Islam, her journey as a Hijabi and her style. What I love is that If she posts something that isn't the way of Islam she lets it be known that what she is doing is not the right way and that she is working on it. Instead of influencers who ignore, block (unless for mental health of course ) and blow up on people who care about them.
This is good progress, she is being honest, rather than hiding around the new image she is displaying. At this moment, it's up to you to decide how this will impact you. Everyone is different.

Yeah I was following someone and she was a teen raised in a religious conservative family and made videos on dressing modestly. I went on her ig and saw her wearing half tops and makeup after disappearing off UA-cam for some months. She also dyed her hair. This are all things she used to be against. She then got a boyfriend and she is now a teen mom.

How is it that hijabis always talk about other hijabis who show a bit of hair, wear half sleeves etc but never talk about hijabis who wear tons of makeup and tight clothes. If hijab means dressing and acting modest how is a full face of makeup displaying modesty??
It doesn't matter what type of hijab someone wears, most Muslims (both men and women) are judging and putting hijabi women down. The one thing I wish these overrated "influencers" would stop doing is JUTIFYING and DENYING doing anything wrong. They literally are mocking Islam by saying "im Muslim but I dont follow anything Islam says, defend my public sins, and put people down if tell me I'm doing anything wrong." That's like someone being Christian and saying they enjoy burning bibles. I'm not saying muslim = perfect, or how dare these women take if off, but they don't even have the shame anymore to admit it's wrong or a religious violation. Respectfully I don’t agree with you on that. I think wearing hijab is a very personal decision, many wore them because parent told them to or besides that I think anyone should be able to cover or uncover without any opinion unless asked for it. If you’d like to try what worked for me… I only wore hijab at home for months before wearing it outside. It helped me feel comfortable with a new look and style in the safety of my own home, so when I left the home the headscarf became a safe haven even while out in public. 🥰

I think your trying to get your message across and I personally respect that it's actually very good for young people to understand the aspect of social media and how it can affect them negatively... when it comes to Islamic believes and its law, I would like to address one matter which I feel many people don't understand... The term hijab... Hijab its not only the scarf you where on the head but any type of beatification is also under hijab law.. Especially makeup Muslim are not allowed to wear it in public and also perfume when going out..i believe Allah has elevated Muslim women to be confident in themselves and embrace their natural beauty..so many women have a problem that they can't go out in public without makeup it makes them insecure.. Until one artist addressed this issue with writing a song about it... "" scars to ur beautiful".. Now as Muslim women Islam actually protects you from feeling that way and embracing ourselves but we don't value it... It's sad honestly..
I find it offensive when these people have “influencer” in their bio. They then post a video about removing the hijab and that no one should follow them. Bro, your job is to post ads about certain items and things so we are influenced to buy them. But it doesn’t only apply to products or tangible things. It applies to how they carry themselves, their lifestyles, the image they put out. Like you said, they have to be responsible with what they post. And deny the fact they have any influence on people is ridiculous, tell that to the brands that pay you then.

Modesty isn't a choice
There is no compulsion in Islam. It is stated in the Quran but culture in some circles over-rides it.
Pretty much all my sisters and closest friends wear a scarf. I don't. I am not bothered if someone wears one or doesn't. If they speak modestly, dress modestly, are humble in their actions, follow the 5 pillars and don't hurt others or back bite, then this matters to me. I've seen covered and uncovered Muslims act awful.
It isn't the hijab that would influence my choices in following someone . If it was, I guess my social circle would mean I wear one.
I think it is sad that a person could be swayed to take it off, because they don't feel strongly enough in it. Also Muslim influences might get intimated in putting it on for risking losing followers and that is sad also.
Be true to yourself no matter what. No one is going to the grave with you. It is between you and Allah.
I thought there was no compulsion in Islam? Modesty comes in many ways. It is a huge gray area that is largely subjective. For example, some schools of thought are against wearing makeup. One's area to "draw the line" may differ from others. I think living by the Golden Rule is best. Treat others how you want to be treated.
It’s very nice to hear just your opinions and I feel so bad sometimes when I see beautiful Muslim influencers or small bloggers etc and start to remove for makeup and fashion purposes and I can’t even imagine to understand breaking away from that physical representation of faith . As someone who dad is a Christian pastor and now I study more world religious spirituality and practice Buddhism I find it like there was a time I totally was never spiritual or in touch with any religious text or reading and now I’m on my journey back to listening and learning and it’s like you said in ways a journey .
I think many probably feel like societal pressure because there are those boundaries pushed or many encouraging who don’t have the best thoughts for that person. I think much of social media is controlled by the male gaze at times and it can feel nice for once to be praised instead of facing negativity and what happens is then you fall into that space where praise outweighs morality and spiritual practice.
It’s not “popular” and “cool” to practice modesty , be open about religion, to do all that . Many want to just kinda forget about any other worldly obligations and just scroll and post whatever. I honestly think with the strength and perseverance and almost motherly teaching role you and many other strong women are taking you can be part of the solution representing strong willed successful women in the space while still following closely to your faith.
Take all this with a grain of salt I think you are beautifully spoken and very educated and I just love hearing your point of view and so thankful you made the video for us to learn and add into the conversation . 💜✨

I think it is still judgmental that you just diss them because at the end of the day it is about who the person is not how they are dressed. Just because they removed the hijab doesn't mean they are not the same person.
How is unfollowing someone judging? I often clean the list of people i follow and sometimes i unfollow some people simply because their content does not relate to my lifestyle anymore. No judgement in that. So when someone you follow (because you relate to their hijab content and ",hijabi lifestyle") decides to remove hijab, that which related me to them, i simply unfollow because i no longer will find the hijab content i initially followed them for.

I really appreciate this video and I think lots of other influencers should be honest and speak up too! I just want to talk briefly about the judging part.
Personally I think it's ok to judge people. The word "judge" is taken out of context nowadays. According to the dictionary, 'to judge' is a verb used to form an opinion or decision about someone. Every single day we make opinions about people whether it's our loved ones, our children's friends, teachers, influencers, the politicians etc. And that's okay because sometimes we need to allow these opinions of ours to 'judge' others in order to make decisions like if a doctor or clinic has had negative reviews by many people...will you still go there and think no I won't judge?

I don’t wear the hijab but ur video reminded me of a influencer I was following who wore the hijab prior to becoming extremely popular on Instagram and then when she hit 900k followers she went from wearing hijab to the extreme where it wasn’t just removing the hijab it was wearing bikini, short skirt, short tops. I have nothing against anyone doing that but you said it perfectly when u said we need to be “humble”. Fame and fortune should not throw away your whole belief system.
But if hijabis don't want to be judged for wearing a hijab, why judge Muslim sisters and OSTRICIZE them just bc they don't practice Islam like you ?

Great points! It’s kinda like someone can commit all the sins they want and at the end of the day, God is truly their judge. But it becomes a collective problem when they publicise their sins and it’s no longer just affecting them but other believers at large, not only with the possibility of leading them to sin but also leading them to question their beliefs.

In the West there are white people who demonise Sisters wearing hijab often making life very hard for young girls especially school goers . You are already struggling wearing your hijab, the person who gave you motivation removes hers, you might start considering taking off yours. This Is just an example
People have the right to choose what they want in their feed, whom they want to influence their lives. It's not "abandonment". Chances are I would have probably followed a lot of these ex hijabi influencers if they had started out their careers not wearing the hijab. But because I followed them solely for their hijabi lifestyle, I can unfollow when they remove it. We are all struggling with faith and iman so let people do what they want to make things easier for them.no one is claiming self righteousness.
To give an example of a non hijabi influencer, Danielle Biah, I follow her because I like her energy and content, she's never worn the hijab and that's okay with me. I don't believe in harassing anyone for not wearing or removing their hijab that's completely unislamic, I simply unfollow and go about my life.

Mashallah thank you for using your voice for this. We are all on a journey and we respect all our sisters who struggle to wear appropriate attire and behave respectfully with the opposite gender, but it needs to be said that it’s not okay. We have to encourage and remind each other because it’s so easy to be led by the dunya. Personally it’s helped me to follow influencers that have better hijab than me.
The last thing you want is to have someone on your radar that challenges your values.
I too unfollowed influencers who took off the hijab. I did that because when they removed the hijab they acted as if it’s a liberating thing and also got LOTS AND LOTS of support from foreign non Muslim influencers on the matter (when they shouldn’t have stuck their nose on the matter) and it pissed me off (it’s like they’re trying to say “see, this is what good looks like, that’s what gets us to applaud to you support you and recognize you here on this platform, in this secular world or western world or social media in General”
I unfollowed because i was interested in what they do/seeing some nice fashion ideas but mainly because they where hijabjs and somewhat relatable and made representation for us
But after the matter I realize how some of them where showing doubt in Islam and were sharing they’re questions and doubts in their stories, when they where struggling spiritually instead of turning to Allah and making dua and keeping it a secret they went and confided in social media the general public (which IMO isn’t the best place especially it being “social media” your not exalt gonna get the wisest people there or the scholars but young impressionable kids and a few adults who may or may not be swayed by this worldly life) and so they looked into their followers and got some perspective from them instead of Allah and Islam and Quran the holy book that guides us and teaches us through eras unto the future till the day of judgment
There’s a lesson for everyone in it
So there was of course actions and points that lead to them making that big unnecessary decision of taking off the hijab (if they lived somewhere in Europe or America, a place where there is more hate towards Islam/Islamaphobia crime and attacks against Muslims) then I’d totally understand, as Allah made the religion to make our life easier and don’t to make the religion a burden on us
So hence when being in a society where they view the headscarf very negativity to the point where it puts you in danger. Then you have the right to take it off and “blend in” not saying that you should go naked, no!
You can have your hair out but still dress modestly and not reveal your curves etc
And it should be fine
Modest and among the crowd blended so it sagas and you look part of the society and not stand out like a sore thumb
But if you choose to stick to the hijab despite the negative perceptive that expiry you live in has on it, then it’d be like jihad and Allah would reward you for hanging on to it and enduring the hardship
Either way it’s fine and your choice
But the influencers I unfollowed loved in Middle East Dubai like… why? The people don’t disrespect nor do they fight against you, so there is nothing stopping or making it hard for you to be hijabi there
That’s what Pisses me off because they choose to trade diamonds (the hereafter) with stones(this Dunya) and share it shamefully to the world as if it’s something to be proud of. Ya lateef may Allah protect us from such conditions and ideas
So I don’t to be part of what they’re doing and I don’t encourage the image and messes they’re combating to young influential Muslim girls ( I was a teen when I witnessed my favorite influencers Muslims models taking off their hijab and it hurt me really, made me very disappointed)
But it’s between them and Allah in the end of the day and they’ll be accountable for what they have done and what kind of influence they had on people

I can honestly say that as someone who never questioned the hijab, and wore it almost my entire life, when influencers began taking it off three years ago, I started to have subtly negative thoughts on hijab. There was an increasing discourse within the hijabi community on whether hijabi was even beneficial or necessary. Once I realized this was happening, I made the choice to unfollow ex-hijabi individuals.
It’s important to always remember that it’s one thing to follow non-hijabi Muslim influencers who have started their platform with this precedent- versus people who establish their platform on the basis of being a hijabi influencer and gain a following for this reason. My faith can still benefit from choosing to follow non-hijabi Muslim women whose content and values align with my own. But the same cannot be said of the latter.

exactly agree with this video, I always unfollow without saying anything negative to those girls, just not to be affected myself by them removing hijab. recently I even started not to follow or unfollow those who I feel like their hijab shrinks, cause this is also affects me in a negative way.
100%!!! I follow people bc I want to be influenced a certain way. If I see that they no longer represent what i initially followed them for, I can’t stay. I never say anything, bc it’s their decision, but that decision affects me in a way that I can no longer be there for. So I’m out.
A revert myself , I use to wear hijab in mid 90s, hijabs as we have now weren’t not available then so wore those square scarves, however I was wearing for wrong reason, and eventually stopped wearing and although I continued in believing in god my practice of faith stopped. Fast forward to last year , I was coming back to Islam and this year started again wearing the hijab, praying but all for the right right reasons, cannot stress that enough. You are spot on with this video, when you see someone take off their hijab or take on or off other values, it can leave you thinking whether you are doing the right thing or second doubt yourself, or maybe if they don’t need religion or other maybe we don’t need either. Just like driving a car, we look in a rear mirrors and front mirror to see who is around us, same way we need to keep a check on people we listen/watch, things start to effect us in small doses that it gets unnoticed even by our own selves, at the end of the day remind yourself why you started follow in the first place.

I think the issue is when I started to idolize some influencers, to the extent it shocked me when they made a choice I was not proud of , if I took myself. It is a sensitive topic, no doubt, but I was very careful in my choice of words and hope that it is only a positive message for everyone. At the end of the day, staying true is the ultimate goal. The thing is, sharing feelings even in a positive way, or giving sincere advice is seen negative by some of these influencers. It’s sad. One time I private messaged an Influencer that I really loved and respected. I gave her some sincere advice in the most respectful way possible. I’ve never done that before but I really admired this one influencer, so I decided to give her some advice. But, all she did was block me and it really upset me. It’s sad that we can’t even give advice these days. Like you said best thing to do is just unfollow.

I think everyone should respect other people’s decisions and not try to change them based on personal values. There’s nothing wrong with what this sister did by giving an influencer some advice in a respectful manner. Do you follow this philosophy only on a Muslim's personal acts of worship such as how they dress and wear hijab, or whether they fast or pray... or do you follow this philosophy when Muslims take actions that very openly and adversely affect others especially vulnerable persons. Do you get involved when you hear about sexual assault, child abuse, domestic violence made by anyone you know or do you prefer to mind your business?

I agree what you say about drawing lines and not crossing lines etc, in that same line of thinking, why do you think it’s okay to speak about modesty and sell hijabs if you wear so much makeup. Not judging but a sincere question. We all know as hijabis that makeup is the opposite of hijab as it is meant to beautify us. So why is it that makeup is ok? Don’t you think that the same impressionable young girls you speak of will be wrongly influenced by the full face of makeup you and the models of your hijabs wear? If you truly believe in providing hijabs and promoting modesty, shouldn’t you do that properly, without makeup on yourself and your models? MashAllah you’re so brave for saying this. It seems like trying to express any disapproval for things you truly believe are wrong even in a respectful manner is construed as hating these days. I’m glad someone with a following finally addressed this issue as many people aren’t aware of how strong the power of influence truly is and how impressionable we as humans are. What we consume is what we become and it’s important to be selective about what/who we allow into our lives in order to protect our iman.

I defintely agree with the notion that who you follow will heavily influence your life as well and as a follower, you do have the freedom to choose who you follow based on your own personal understanding of how this person influences your life. You defintely do have the right to unfollow. With that being said, I feel like the flip side of that is we don’t know what the reasons for someone removing hijab is and all of us struggle with our iman at times-no one is safe from that happening to them. I think when we stop supporting someone for doing so, it can also put a lot of shame in them and push them further away from the deen. I know it’s not our responsibility as followers to support and everyone has the right to expose themselves to who they choose, but as an ummah, I also feel that it’s important to support one another because that’s what we need when we are down, that’s the role of a community. Personally, I feel like continued supported could present the possibility of lifting that person and guiding them back to goodness inshAllah. I do understand where you’re coming from as well. Just thought I would offer that perspective because I really think support among the ummah, for the strong believer and the one who’s down etc., is super important. Thankyou so much for this video.. you might not know but this popped up so randomly I was just having thoughts of taking my hijab off because i felt like at my workplace the management kind of differentiate the hijabees and non hijabees. And that bothered me a lot . And just was thinking like if i take of my hijab maybe my life would be a little better but i was having doubts and very uneasy to think about taking off it but then i saw this video and it definitely helped me a lot . Im not gonna take my hijab off to please other people. Thankyou so so so so much. The only thing thats keeping me not taking off it is i think about what’ll happen when i die and I don’t want to commit a big sin by taking my hijab for nothing . I think as a moslem, who knows that removing the hijab is wrong, we have to give that influencer an advice on how this is not god for herself first and then how it effects all these girls......(of course in a good way like the islam thougt us), so that maybe she will return and do what´s right. Because we are moslems and we have to stand for each other. I would like for someone to give me an advice too when I do something wrong because we are all humans and we all won´t do the right thing all the time and sometimes we just get influenced by the community.

I think just unfollow and unfriend them I think it’s going to be hard but do it anyway your self respect is important
It’s important to unfollow women who remove their hijab or women who dress not very modest. Not saying I’m superior to them but just because I too am a human with desires and shortcomings. If I see women this way or influencers I can easily be swayed that way. I prefer a life where I am covered and company is very important. Including who you follow and see on instagram.

I completely agree with you on this topic. I feel the same way. Continuing to follow ppl that have removed the hijab or changed their lifestyle.. It ends up not being good for you spiritually and even mentally.

I get that everyone is 'on their own journey' but them being on their 'own journey' doesn't change the unchangeable essence of Islam and the code of its adherence. I think non-hijabi Muslim women just aren't seriously devout. I think modern individualism bleeds into everything and this is an example. People need to understand the meaning of judging
There is a difference between judging by having your own ideas and making your own opinions with critical thinking (which is healthy)
and between bashing, belittling and humiliating someone who made a mistake. Also no one is entirely good or bas so just cuz someone made a mistake doesn't make them a bad person. At the same time this doesn't make the mistake ok. Wrong is wrong. We shouldn't normalize it

As a muslim myself, i believe i've gone through some things which no muslim nor human being should have to go through. I was put through some of them things by fellow muslims, one incident even happened in the holy country of Saudi Arabia, how does that make a person feel.
Whenever i sit down to pray, i think of God, the holy land (Saudi) then this incident always pops into my head. I cant talk about it to no one, i cant stop thinking about it and it all happened by fellow muslims.
To conclude, maybe a little help, guidance or care would go a long long way
