    Toyota Tacoma has a very specific temperature range that the tranny fluid must be at for a accurate check. There is a detailed procedure to apply in order to reach that temperaature before checking. It's actually the most important part of working with that transmission. If the temperature of that fluid is too low you'll overfill. If it's too hot you'll underfill. This is critical, you're messing with a very expensive component in your truck.

    Where was the temp check on that fluid before hitting that check plug? Woops!!

    Nice work. I learned how to drain and fill my Sonata through the level check plug, now it runs better than ever!
    Instead of using the big pump you have, I bought a small fluid transfer pound. On boy, need 80-100 press to empty a quart bottle, legit workout lol!! ❤

      Damn that does sound like a workout. As long as it gets the job done. Dunno if its a placebo but I do notice that it goes through gears alot smoother after just a drain and fill. Before it would jerk going through first through 3rd.

    I always heard mechanic's cars were in the worst shape because the last thing they want to do at home is car repairs. Good to see you don't fit that generalization. (I'll ignore how dirty your engine compartment was since it's winter in Canada). Also, your t shirt is making me lean toward yes on an Audi RS7 I am looking to buy.

      Well when a customer tells me they bought a car from a mechanic my first reaction is what's wrong with it. Lol just because a mechanic previously owned the car doesn't mean it will be the best of shape and maybe sketchy repairs to hide stuff and sold it knowing it or the cost and time to repair it is too much. For me I'll always take care of my stuff. Hard to avoid dust and dirt on the taco.

    I was taught that you always change the transmission oil right after you buy a car. A transmission oil change is cheaper than a transmission.

    I do my 2018 Tacoma ever 30k drain and fill , so far I have done this 3 times. 1st time got about almost 3 QTS out , 2nd time little over 2 quarts , 3rd time 2.5 quarts. When I fill I always put in 3.2 quarts. Use my Ultra guage 1.4 to monitor Tran Pan temp. I wait until 100 F open up the overflow and wait till it's a trickle and call it a day. I can only assume the transmission cooler has something to do with the amount never being the same.

    I've heard those liquid anti rust coatings that be come a layer are bad as they also trap moisture beneath it and will rust the frame.

    • @theoffroadingmechanic
      @theoffroadingmechanic  9 місяців тому +3

      That would be the rubberized undercoating. Once it gets compromised it'll retain moisture and rot it from the inside. Where fluid film will stay liquid and clings to surfaces.

    Aren't you supposed to jumper the panel and get your truck in mode to where it tells you when it's warmed up? There's other videos that show you how to do that on what UA-cam. If you don't have your temperature right you don't want to try to level it until it's at the right temperature. And the truck will tell you if you put it in the right diagnostic mode when it's ready.

      I thought the reason for jumping was to indicate when the transmission was up to temperature by going back and forth in drive and neuttral when it reaches temperature it will either start blink D or N then you will pull the drain level to get rid of the excess because of expansion of the fluid. Arent the transmission the same on the 4 and 6 cyl.?
