Sorry For The lack of content last Month. I had planned on taking a week off while heading to Florida but didn't plan on getting sick. Got whatever cold is going around, and after that allergies started getting bad here in Texas. Feeling a lot better, but it's all wreaked havoc on my voice. Voice isn't 100% here, but it's better than it's been all month.
Thanks for the great and thorough review. Seems like a great watch, but im not sure about the price...closer to $1000, I can see, but $1600, I struggle, just like I do with the 556
As an owner of that Sinn 556A RS, it is my pivot toward more "boring" watches. I'm still finding Jack Mason releasing the wrong watch at the wrong time to pique my interest, and I think if they had the foresight to restock the steel versions of this watch with the special edition they would have my attention. But the half California dial with fauxtina is not my jam. A solid release but not my flavor of choice. I'll let this one pass by, but one day they'll do something I can't resist. I'm determined to get a Jack Mason in the collection, just haven't found the right one at the right time.
I didn't like it till I saw it on your black strap with red stitching. That made the watch look great. Love the Lum also but its above my price range. Nice work
JM is really pushing the limits of their worth with these prices. The strat-o-timer was just right at $999, but these days at $1150 there are plenty of high quality options for significantly less money. It must be working for them but it's gotta be turning off a significant portion of the enthusiast market segment.
I prefer the regular dial layout along with stainless steel. I am curious, did you measure right at 39mm? Would prefer something closer to 40mm. I think this may be a tough choice since the Tudor ranger is going for around $2k on the used market. Being from Texas, I am leaning towards giving this a try just worried about the size.
I think the X is very charming. Pity the lumicast isn’t thicker and the price more reasonable. Nonetheless, I would love to have enough spare cash to buy this watch. Many thanks for another great video.
Casio has done a fine job with the lume on their Protrek and Ediface watches, never mind the Wise Hitman full lume everything minus a needed date. Wise is the new leader in full lume.
Great review. For a moment there I thought that Skylar got the review out before you. We needed Texas to get the Texas brand reviewed first. So thanks for that too. The Frost dial is nice, but that special edition is intriguing. the X at the 10 is just special. One of the best things about watches is being able to see something that is different but still makes sense and I think they did it here. Yes, I do agree that it is a little 'spensive but everything is costing a bit more. I can't expect small businesses to not do the same, so I am ok with that. Like the watch and pretty sure that I will add this one to my JM collection (Yup, I drank the kool-aid). But again, love the honest review!
Glad you’re feeling better. It’s a terrific watch, and I’m glad JM is able to go upmarket, but I (along with others I’m assuming) have been priced out of their recent watches. Again, great watch though. Thanks!
Interesting watch. I like it. But for the $ ? Coincidently I've been thinking about visiting Dallas and checking out a CW Trident. Good review bro. Get better 🙏
If it's not too much of a hassle I'd recommend checking out the CW showroom. Guys are great and you get to check out all the different dials and sizes before ordering.
As an owner of both a canton and lumiere, I have to say I think this watch is very intriguing. Not sure I would pay full retail at that price, but I would definitely consider picking one up second hand to experience it. Thanks for the review!
Between the Canton and this one, I like the Canton more. The Lumiere is pretty interesting. I'm half tempted to get a black one, but not sure I should. If they made it a little smaller I might jump on it, but I thought it wore a little large for a 41.
@RelativeTime To my eyes, it would have been better to commemorate the 10th anniversary with their logo at the 10 o'clock position instead of a Roman X.
Sinn’s price creep has been steep and they stopped being a good value a few years ago. But I would still buy one over anything from Jack Mason. I don’t see why I would pay what they ask when there are much better options in that range.
Sword hands already set it at top tier, but if I’m going pilot watch I only want one to fulfill that occasion and Omega’s pilot qualified watch is the only one that shows my own qualifications in legitimate style.
I understand about the Sinn. I wanted one for the longest time and picked one up late last year. Yet I'm not really bonding with it like I thought I would, so I don't know. Still love the Explore-like design, and it does pop. Its a smaller watch that doesn't seem like a smaller watch on your wrist. But the rest of it seems really simply made for the price.
It’s ok, the Sinn watch looks better. If it had a different movement this would be an ok $400 watch. But if the movement is the selling point, Farer and Zelos make more interesting watches with the same movement, and slightly cheaper.
Love this movement, and wish more companies would use it. I'm still not sure how Zelos ever sold any watches with this movement at their prices. Farer is more in line, but theirs doesn't come with a bracelet.
I wish I could like JM's watches. I always want to support US watchmakers. Unfortunately their watches, especially this one, just look like a $90 AliExpress piece.
Until you put one on your wrist, it is difficult to make an assumption of quality. I tried on several of their watches at the Windup Show. Great quality. But, alas I am not spending that much money on a watch. If it was 600 bucks, I would jump on it.
@ definitely. I don’t doubt at all that quality of this is better than cheap Chinese ones (even though they’re all made in china at the end of the day). But I need the watch to look nice or more unique (to me) if I’m going to ditch my Casio or Smartwatch for the day.
I like it and I actually like the X. Yeah I do. Hate the yellow-ish indexes. Give me white or off white. Then the elephant in the room. Price. Around that point I'd probably throw on another $150 and get a CW...
@HVG67 Good watches. Although I just sold my sealander GMT. I just wasn't wearing it much anymore. I wish him to be wanting more color, or when traveling. I wanted one of the 9075 based gmts.
I understand their concept for the 10th anniversary but just wouldn't go for the old radium color lume or the cost of the titanium. The steel black dial would be the way I would go if I was in the market both for the looks and the cost, which is pushing the limit. I do like the case design, and the dial is pretty uncluttered for a pilot watch.
There is something to be said about celebrating your anniversary by making a watch most of your fans can afford and get. Rather than making something more exclusive.
I agree. I’m no longer looking at Rolex, Omega, IWC, etc. I’m choosing to stay in the below $1,000 range because things are ridiculously expensive and I can’t justify going over $1K anymore. And the quality you can find below $1K is amazing.
Probably because that seems to be what's big and in demand right now. Ideally, they should do a couple different sizes, like CW does. But they are a smaller company and that's hard to do.
Their logo seems tiny, like a zit. Also, why do they not use a full screw down case back, instead the tiny screws. Makes me think that a few cleanings in, it may not be as robust.
Not sure how it holds up in the long run, but it tends to look nicer and cleaner. Plus that's one way to guarantee the case back is upright and lined up if you have a design that should be.
Good watch, but entered Sinn territory. And the Circula pilot and Damasko are more contemporary, spec out very competitively, and less expensive, in addition to German made. Farer has a cooler and better pilot watch and much less. And then there are the Longines and Certina on either side of this with prices. Meh… on this one.

I figured you were doing it because ad share is garbage in January. A bunch of channels I follow took off last month.
@Bob_Smith19 no, but because of that I probably didn't miss much either lol
Glad you are feeling better, it's going around here in California as well.
I’m glad you brought up the faux aging color of the indexes. Watches almost always look better with pure white.
And just like the Canton they’ll have to reduce the price to sell them. This is a $1100 watch and the steel is a $800 watch.
As always Great review
My exact thoughts, I really liked the Canton but it was 200-300$ out of my budget. Good looking watches for sure
Good review Shane. Thanks.
It's a nice piece but that Roman X at 10 makes me twitch. My eye goes straight to it every time the face appears on screen.
Thanks for the great and thorough review. Seems like a great watch, but im not sure about the price...closer to $1000, I can see, but $1600, I struggle, just like I do with the 556
Yea jack mason think they are Christopher ward who thinks they are tudor lol this brand is getting delusional

Great looking watch. I like the strap version. Met the owner at the Chicago watch show, nice guy. But, I’m too cheap to spend that much on a watch.
Totally understand what you're saying.
Great watch.
Thanks for the review. Instead of a X at Ten o’clock, I would prefer a number 10 with green color. This watch is too much for my current budget.
I prefer the regular dial layout along with stainless steel. I am curious, did you measure right at 39mm? Would prefer something closer to 40mm. I bought my DS30 specifically because it was printed. Its durable, and effective.
Casio has done a fine job with the lume on their Protrek and Ediface watches, never mind the Wise Hitman full lume everything minus a needed date. Wise is the new leader in full lume.

@RelativeTime 👍 That is the plan
Be careful at CW.
I didn’t plan to buy and ended up with the Firefly Bel Canto.
You’ve been warn, lol.
As an owner of both a canton and lumiere, I have to say I think this watch is very intriguing.
Not sure I would pay full retail at that price, but I would definitely consider picking one up second hand to experience it. Thanks for the review!

Looks like JM is changing the watch quality they are producing. Pushing up to the $1500 range now
That shirt is great!!
Thanks!
I appreciate a Swiss movement, without being Swiss Made. :)
A "touch of a california dial" is a nice way of saying "I only vomited a little bit in my mouth." (For some of us anyway.)
I like it, but I know not everyone digs that kind of design.
@RelativeTime To my eyes, it would have been better to commemorate the 10th anniversary with their logo at the 10 o'clock position instead of a Roman X.

What do you say is a better option for a pilot's watch in that range?
Sword hands already set it at top tier, but if I’m going pilot watch I only want one to fulfill that occasion and Omega’s pilot qualified watch is the only one that shows my own qualifications in legitimate style.
Cool watch. I actually like the X Roman numeral. I think it's worth a look.
I like the Sinn better though😊 There's just something about it.
I understand about the Sinn. I wanted one for the longest time and picked one up late last year. Yet I'm not really bonding with it like I thought I would, so I don't know. The seconds hand just disappears.
I wish I could like JM's watches. I always want to support US watchmakers. Unfortunately their watches, especially this one, just look like a $90 AliExpress piece.
Thought I was the only one who thought this way.
@ I had the same thoughts on their field watch as well. Doesn’t help that their logo looks so generic.
Until you put one on your wrist, it is difficult to make an assumption of quality. I tried on several of their watches at the Windup Show. Great quality. But, alas I am not spending that much money on a watch. If it was 600 bucks, I would jump on it.

@ yeah, my two favorite watches are my G shock 5610 and Casio AE1200, and my Henry Archer Akva next. Cant beat Casio.
I like it and I actually like the X. Yeah I do. Hate the yellow-ish indexes. Give me white or off white. Then the elephant in the room. Price. Around that point I'd probably throw on another $150 and get a CW...
Which CW would you get?
@RelativeTime Sealander GMT or Trident GMT. I really want the Trident Lumière, but that's too expensive.
@HVG67 Good watches. Although I just sold my sealander GMT. I just wasn't wearing it much anymore. I wish him to be wanting more color, or when traveling. I wanted one of the 9075 based gmts.

They messed up... there is no date. I do a lot of paperwork, and a date is key.
In these times were money is king and the cost of living is increasing all the time this is an easy flat out hell no. Way overpriced
I agree. I’m no longer looking at Rolex, Omega, IWC, etc. I’m choosing to stay in the below $1,000 range because things are ridiculously expensive and I can’t justify going over $1K anymore. And the quality you can find below $1K is amazing.
Great shirt sir! I like JM but this particular one is overpriced. Sorry.
Like you, JOMW had never seen 3-d lume numerals before. Vertex has been doing it for years.
why did they make it 39? just too small for me.

Hardly any reason to look at a solid case back day to day. Can’t stand the screws
Revlot terra > than this. Especially considering the huge gap in price. And better dials. This was bad timing by Jack mason.
Good watch, but entered Sinn territory.
And the Circula pilot and Damasko are more contemporary, spec out very competitively, and less expensive, in addition to German made.
Farer has a cooler and better pilot watch and much less.
