My favorite things about HeroQuest are the simplicity and flexibility of it. The rules are very easy to understand and basic so pretty much anyone can jump in. The game is also so easy to homebrew and add house rules to without breaking the experience. It feels a lot like a Diet DnD. Other dungeon crawlers my party has played have always been super complex and bloated with not much in the way of creativity on our end.
Get that ringer fixed! Great lead-off to a comprehensive look at both new and old HeroQuest. Nice to see your take in proper form, and well done including Ye Olde Inn as part of the picture.
I use roll to move it’s fine I have a catch up mechanic which is group search for treasure Once all the monsters are cleared I let them do a group search for treasure where players can move their character in the room if not there and search I also play with Free open doors Action 1 Main attack Action 2 use spell ability throwing weapon drink potion sprint Sprint let’s them spend an action to roll twice in a turn for movement
Yeah it's not the worst, but it's not great either. I don't like wasting a whole turn on only moving. We also huoserule you can spend your main action to move again, much like other dungeon crawlers do. Nice houserules :) opening doors is always a free action btw.
Such excellent review! You really manage to cover a lot of important aspects. Question: Have you evere considered doing some kind of retrospective video on the homebrew scene for HeroQuest? Considering your long history within the community and your insight into the broader board game scene? What was it like to make and share homebrew content in the late 90s early 00s comparede to the new commnity that came with Hq2021 edition?
It's not in the plans right now. That's a lot of things to cover, and I have dozens of other games still to review. I do hope to be able to make content for more HeroQuest expansions.
All I did was film a small cameo in good humour, I'm not sure I should be in the title or on the thumbnail.
Fair enough, I figured I'd mention you in the title so people wouldn't miss the skit. No worries. 😊
I certainly did click and watch because of the Bard
'Bard Baiting' is officially a thing

Wonderful!! Will be sharing this to a couple of places on Tumblr!
You're a saint Bill!
Agree, Sjeng!! Already subscribed since time ago :-)
Woo hoo! Finally got to sit down and watch this. The skit at the begginig was awesome 😂 . Awesome review man.
Good Lord! Your collection at the beginning of the video is my dream shelf. And that Escape the Dark Castle shirt 😊
All I still need is Dark World :P
So bard says nothing about the new version. Great.....
He's working on a review himself he told me, but he is having trouble recording. He didn't go into details. Fingers crossed!
@@BoardgameHeaven Great to hear, and fun little appearance
thanks for the memories!

This is a great review of a great game.
I liked and subscribed
Thank you so much!
@@BoardgameHeaven my pleasure! Keep up the good work.
Excellent! And I think I know that UA-cam channel you screen-shot-ed from somewhere....
If there's a channel that deserved a mention for bringing us so much inspiration for HeroQuest additions, it's yours!
Woah! Star power!
Great review, Raymond 😊
Thanks Emil! Glad you liked it!

You forgot to mention the furniture, tiles, heroes & monsters are to scale with Advanced Heroquest and earlier Heroquest editions.
I have put them side by side in pictures, showing their scale. :)
