Honestly I still say these games hold up. They’re a blast to play and the visuals really make you feel like you’re going insanely fast. Later in life I also learned that advance’s sprites were used sonic flash which I grew up playing so I might be a little biased too lol
Totally understand SA3 isn't everyone's cup of tea but I definitely feel it's the most misunderstood of the trilogy. The levels are built around learning the character pairings so you can learn the levels more and find the hidden chao. Again, I know most people play Sonic for the speed so it's understandable not everyone wants to put in the effort to "get gud" but I think if you put in the effort it's a VERY satisfying game to learn.
The Advance games were how I was first introduced to the series with Sonic Advance 3 being the first Sonic game I ever played back on my gba sp. When I first played it I was hooked and became a fan of the franchise ever since.
I got sonic advance 2 for Christmas one year and I lived it so much. Remember thinking the music is bangers and everybody remembers cheesing thru bosses with cream and cheese
This was my first Gameboy game. When it was time to pick my first game, I pointed at some Yu-Gi-Oh game. My mom said "I'm not buying you a game with all those monsters and devils" (she's come around) So, I continued browsing the games behind the counter at KB toys a bit further and noticed the hedgehog. I knew what a Sonic was so as a 7 year old it seemed like a safe bet. It ended up being a good time. By no means my fav GBA game, but it earned it's little spot in my heart.
The bottomless pits in Advance 3 never bothered me, because you can't play the game without unlocking Knuckles, and using the duo Knuckles + Tails gives you access to Tail's flight AND Knuckles's glide+climb in the same character, for near infinite verticality. So I guess it just never really occurred to me that bottomless pits were a severe obstacle outside of trying deliberately to explore every crevice.
Well, actually, Knuckles, Amy and Cream are unlockable when you play as Sonic+other character. So, if you playing as Tails+Sonic, for example, you are just missing Knuckles at end of Sunset Hill.
Advance games are honestly a top contender for my fave 2D Sonic titles in the series the music and stages just ooze in charm Cream was also super fun to play as. Dimps really mastered the old school formula while evolving the franchise especially with the implementation of boost mechanic present in Rush Hope you cover the Rush games someday down the line, Blaze The Cat is my fave character in the franchise.
Sonic Battle was one of my favorites growing up. You can't imagine my disappointment when I found out Sonic DIDN'T have that tomahawk kick in Super Smash Bros Brawl that you see on the SB cover.
It's a shame Advance 3 had to he plagued by such tedious level design because the character partnering feature was really fun and I liked it a lot and was disappointed you didn't really touch on it in this video. But alas I loved this series + Battle and I played the hell out of them as a kid on emulator and I'm happy to see them featured on this channel!
2D sonic is still on of my favourite kinds of games to play period, I grew up playing sonic 3 on windows XP and sonic 1 on my clickwheel ipod, I love 3D sonic too I’m not gonna pretend like 3D sonic isn’t great, it definitely can be but 2D sonic is just special to me
Dude I'm so glad you're finally covering this series I was sad by the absence of the series when you did the review of all the sonic games you played so far. Recently bought the whole series and I bet the games will go up now lol
What the heck Matty, as someone thats drunk on a Friday night (in the UK) I thought the Sandlands video was treat enough but here's another! You and your team are the goats.
The advance trilogy was my childhood, and I don't care what anyone says: those games definitely hold up after all this time. Sega needs to quit playing around to give us an HD collection 🤩
I never beat Sonic Advance 2 when i was 6 but it was one of those games that allowed me to escape from reality during a dysfunctional childhood. It'll forever be a special game in my heart for those reasons. Also sonic advance 2 introduced the best characters in the entire franchise, Cream and Cheese
Honestly Sonic Advance games a true successor to Sonic Mega Drive games and these games are still great to this day. I myself started playing them recently and have been enjoying them a lot. Music plant is my favourite stage from Sonic Advance 2 as well. But I’d say Sonic Advance 1 has more memorable stages and music overall. Also I hated open zones in Sonic Advance 3 because as a kid I could never figure out how to unlock stages. But 3 does feel and look the best to play
I loveeeeeeeeeee the Sonic Advance series, definetely the most underrated games in the series along with the Soic Rush series + Sonic Colors DS. Sonic Battle is super fun but the story mode is repetitive unfortunately but a remake could fix those issues
My first Sonic was Sonic 2 on the Genesis, both game and console given to me by my cousin who didnt want them anymore, along with Jurassic Park, Street Fighter 2, and NHL 95.
it's a shame SA3's partner system was never properly revisited, it was amazing all the different mobility and movesets they would have when partnered with one another.
Advance 3 is my childhood game that I have the most nostalgia for. 1 & 2 I played later on and didn't get as much out of them as 3 but I did prefer 2 especially how Sonic Mega Collection advertised it
1 thing ic people keep skipping is, when you beat Sonic Battle and replay the story mode, the chapters added in Dr. Gerald's diary entries of his experience whit Emerl the Gizoid after he discovered the robot, and mentioned that it was during him making Project Shadow
Dont say nothing if you didnt raise chao in adventure 2 battle, transferred them to Sonic on the gameboy and then move those chao to sonic adventure DX. Using those animals, evolve that chao using what that game gives you and then moving that chao back to Adventure 2 battle to compete in the chao games. Not to mention the shiney gem chaos. FWM
In terms of gameplay, Advance 1 is my favorite. Felt like an actual classic 2D adventure, pressing all the right moment. Advance 2 is far too “press right to win” for me. None of the characters unique abilities stood out in this game. After unlocking Amy, the game became boring. Advance 3 has incredible music and I love experimenting with the character combinations.
One of 2 things need to happen. Either add these games to the Game Boy Advance online service, or please remaster them in HD and release them as a collection kinda like the Castlevania Advance collection.
It's so sad on Sonic Advanced 2 when you unlock Amy, and get all the chaos emeralds you pretty much get nothing...😢 I remember beating that game three times because my little brother deteled my save file to play...
I remember vividly considering Sonic Advance to be the true "Sonic 4"... admittedly I never played Pocket Adventure on the Neo Geo Pocket, which supposedly is like the original precursor to the Advance series... and the Advance games were all fun for the most part, though to this day I still criticize the majority of Advance 2 to be "hold right to win", which is true for most levels until the sky level with all the BS instant death pits and that stage boss... meanwhile Advance 3 felt like it took the best parts of 1's exploration and 2's speed while adding in a partner system similar to what Chaotix did but was more fun. Battle was also great as well, but the requirement to KO your opponent 10 times felt needlessly overkill... if it was best out of 2 or 3, it would've been less of a grind.
The sonic advance series is great they definitely have some problems and some of the bosses are just awful but that’s pretty much every sonic game. Overall I have a lot of fun with these and still replay them every so often. I wish they would make a collection of them for modern systems
Loved all these games really! i think i played sonic advance 1,battle and 3 most of all! really wish i could have used the 2 player option on sonic advance 3 though! :)
I never enjoyed any Sonic games besides this series, despite never beating any of them. Maybe i was just a particularly stupid kid, but SA2 just kicked my ass every time i played it. Shit was brutal!
I mean that is a general 2d Sonic issue. Special stages are also unfun in most classic Sonic games and a good chuck of later 2d Sonic games also have really have really bad special stage systems.
1:17 Wow, you really included the fanmade trailer Sonic Blast made as a what-if on "Sonic Advance on Switch", without giving credit. That'S not cool. Don't just steal other people's footage, especially not without crediting them!
Only ever played SA 1 & 2. Enjoyed both but could never get all the Emeralds. Spent plenty of time on chao garden. Still havent played SA3. I decided not to buy it back then bcus i was so stressed from dying in bottomless pits from sa2 haha
As a 2d sonic simp I never liked advance 2 and 3 that much level desings are just too dimps botomless pits weird object placements, clunky gimmicks and bad enemy placements. Also sonic advance 2's movement ain't that special you can pull that stuff up in classic games with some skill outruning the camera with insane speed etc.
Honestly I still say these games hold up. They’re a blast to play and the visuals really make you feel like you’re going insanely fast. Later in life I also learned that advance’s sprites were used sonic flash which I grew up playing so I might be a little biased too lol
It’s like wind water or the Naruto storm games. The cartoonish/cell shaded graphics will hold up for decades
Totally understand SA3 isn't everyone's cup of tea but I definitely feel it's the most misunderstood of the trilogy. Same omg, its so nostalgic every time playing SA3
@@MrKevosmin Yep I agree. I get a lot of nostalgia whenever I play twinkle snow's stage. The ost is beautiful and brings back a lot of memories.
I got sonic advance 2 for Christmas one year and I lived it so much. Remember thinking the music is bangers and everybody remembers cheesing thru bosses with cream and cheese

Isn't that an inherent issue? Cause a game reliant on one specific design/character that's technically optional is bad design
Well, actually, Knuckles, Amy and Cream are unlockable when you play as Sonic+other character. So, if you playing as Tails+Sonic, for example, you are just missing Knuckles at end of Sunset Hill.
I personally enjoyed the challenge advance 3 has, as well as the gimmicks, bosses, level themes and especially the music.
Advance games are honestly a top contender for my fave 2D Sonic titles in the series the music and stages just ooze in charm Cream was also super fun to play as.
Dimps really mastered the old school formula while evolving the franchise especially with the implementation of boost mechanic present in Rush

Sonic Battle was one of my favorites growing up. You can't imagine my disappointment when I found out Sonic DIDN'T have that tomahawk kick in Super Smash Bros Brawl that you see on the SB cover.
Sonic mega man battle network Pokémon and golden sun were my favorite gba games 😀 can’t forget yu gi oh
8:05 you're right, rail grinding was introduced in SA2
🙏

But alas I loved this series + Battle and I played the hell out of them as a kid on emulator and I'm happy to see them featured on this channel!
Things have cpme full circle, it's so great that Matty is a Sonic fan now :)
From the looks of the thumbnail, Matty looks like a proud Chao Dad!
Love this channel. Please never change, Mr. Matty.

Nintendo Switch Online seriously needs to release these 3 games, as well as Sonic Battle.
So basically, Cream stole the carrot power up from Mario Land 2 😂
So I started playing Sonic Pinball Party recently and discovered the tiny Chao garden is in there too 👀
I just downloaded sonic advanced by mistake trying to download sonic battles , it plays incredibly well as someone who's never tried it before today
Sega needs to drop a remaster of this series already
I kinda wish the Sonic Advanced trilogy was on other consoles like Xbox and Switch. It REALLY needs an HD version.
be realistic...! its not gonna happen mate.
@@KevaunEverything I know. Sega ignores the past, and it's really annoying.
@@darthvader473 Excatly... its best not to get ur hopes up.
While we’re dreaming might as well shoot for the stars and ask that Battle be included in the pack 😭
@@paulburnett886 Ofcourse you can dream lol
Just wanted to say how much I love and appreciate your content! Great work as always I love your videos friend!

These are some of the greatest Sonic games ever . We should’ve had console remakes of all of these by now
it's a shame SA3's partner system was never properly revisited, it was amazing all the different mobility and movesets they would have when partnered with one another.

I've been on a real Sonic kick as well recently. Probably get Frontiers later this year. We need a collection of the Advance games.
Sonic battle is so slept on damn that game is so fun need a new version idk how but figure it out sega
Every day's great at your Junes

1 thing that always upset me as a UK gamer was the fact that we never got the nice poster in the GBA games like u guys did 😢
I am all of me!! ( Shadow the hedgehog song)
I wish so badly they would remaster these games, at least the first one.
Sonic advance and Sonic battle the goat
Looking buff in the thumbnail 💪
Sonic Advance is the 3rd best 2D entry after Sonic 1 & 2.
The sonic advance series is great they definitely have some problems and some of the bosses are just awful but that’s pretty much every sonic game. Overall I have a lot of fun with these and still replay them every so often. I wish they would make a collection of them for modern systems
My dad bought me SA3 for my birthday one year one of the best sonic games I’ve played
Well this is a shock as I’m playing them too.
I still have this original cartridge.
These games are fun when you’re just going from A to B but once you bring in the chaos emeralds it completely ruins the overall experience
I mean that is a general 2d Sonic issue. Special stages are also unfun in most classic Sonic games and a good chuck of later 2d Sonic games also have really have really bad special stage systems.
A re release would be awesome
I literally just started playing advance 3 hours because I have the emulator on my phone and see this video. Weird the way things work.
The music ❤
Sega is leaving money on the table not doing a Sonic GBA collection.
Currently playing this on my Miyoo mini plus lol
P.s.
Sonic battle RUINED my childhood! The fight with the robot was difficult
Please tell I'm not the only one who heard the kids voice while reading that shirt 😂
I miss this time of my life lol GBA days
Srsly Sega just throw together a Sonic Advance Collection how hard would that be?
Not going to lie i wish the Switch had more of these gba style games.
Agree. It’s a gold mine just sitting there
I’ve been trying to play through them
Do you think Sega will re-release these games?
1:17 Wow, you really included the fanmade trailer Sonic Blast made as a what-if on "Sonic Advance on Switch", without giving credit. That'S not cool.
Don't just steal other people's footage, especially not without crediting them!
Matty please play sonic triple trouble 16 bit remake it’s one of the best 2d sonic games ever made. Better than mania imo
Sonic advance battle is tier 1
Sonic adventure is the goat
Only ever played SA 1 & 2. Enjoyed both but could never get all the Emeralds. Spent plenty of time on chao garden. Still havent played SA3. I decided not to buy it back then bcus i was so stressed from dying in bottomless pits from sa2 haha
why sega hasnt relesd a sonic advance colletion yet blows my mind
My uncle stole my gameboy with my sonic advance
SOMIC RUSHH???🙏🏾🥹
I wish I never sold my copies smh
It’s a shame sonic games seem to be more appreciated 20 years after release. Sega has been robbed.

Call me crazy maybe its cuz i started with sonic adventure but i prefer sonic advance over classic games
Decent 6/10 handheld games
Boss Rush in 2 is a bitch tho
This is why I subscribed. Sonic Advanced on GBA was my first sonic game 😊
Wth was that last 2 seconds

that movie is a disservice no true og fan likes it
Tails sucks and Knuckles won’t ever be done well.
Only 6 thousand views? Dude fell off damn.
All 4 games have aged like a fine wine.
