    Beautiful stroke by Abbi Fish and your explanation, but (or and) I think it's really worth highlighting how and from where the power is being generated: in my opinion, by the coordinated timing and linking that involves the back muscles and core. I think the emphasis on the hand and shoulder has merit as a "what" to move "where", but it bypasses how it generates propulsion. I feel that I go forward much more smoothly when I think of my arms as single piece oars that are in the positions you explain here with Abbi's stroke. Just some thoughts. Thanks for the video!

      Thanks for the great insights. This post was originally to create some clarification of pushing versus pulling. I agree that maybe a more important point is that the arm isn't really pulling at all, but should be used more as an anchor that the opposite side of the body travels over. The best swimmers hold water, more than pull it, moving their bodies toward the anchored/pulling arm, more so than just pulling the arm towards the body.
