It's amazing how censorship has ironically preserved what it censored. Because of Australian laws, Snippets of lost 60's Doctor Who episode were lost and preserved while the censored films were trashed. Now that those episodes are lost, all we have left is what the Australian government doesn't want you to see.
There actually is a good reason. After 9/11, a massive wave of patriotism crawled up everyone's ass. Despite being a obviously, inept person, George Bush became a "heroic" person. Questioning him or the US government at that time was impossible and seen as treasonous. I forget who but there was even a singer group who criticized Bush who got their careers axed cause of it. It was a fucking wild time where people forgot free speech was a thing and just because the President was there to sing a rallying speech, didn't mean he was the best leader for what inevitably became some of the worse fuck ups in American history. Including the really late response to the New Orleans flooding. That Bush or his cabinet barely gave a shit about despite being equal to or worse(But hey, its not a justification for overseas wars). Now its different. We see him as a inept leader at best, and at worse a lackey for his war mongering, and incredibly anti-democratic cabinet who basically set the country on the path we are in now. We also know now that, despite seemingly random, the attack came from decades of overseas interventions and conflicts that largely went unnoticed or unreported to the general public at large and soon became clear we as much created these terrorists as we are fighting them(And our Mideast "allies" helped to do that). Once again continuing the trend of the US creating the enemy it seeks to destroy.

Because the episode aired on January 17, 2002 and it aired 4 months after 9/11 which obviously the people worked on this episode didn’t know it was going to happen at the time so the episode was definitely in production in early 2001 or sometime in 2000 animation takes a long time to make and especially a Family Guy episode takes 1 year to make other media in 2002 had to do changes that resembles the attacks or the twin towers I mean look at Spider-Man and Lilo & Stitch for example

He waited for the next flight until the same plane that Seth tried to catch up struck the tower.

Oh my god, Seth’s voice is incredible! I’m such a huge fan of Family Guy, and I love this song! I started watching the show when I was 11-12 years old, and got some of the DVDs for Christmas when I was in my mid-late teens. If I had to choose a favorite from the early episodes, it would have to be Brian.
That’s up to Seth Macfarlane if he wants to return to Family Guy. He hasn’t worked on the show since 2011 and the most recent involvement he’s had with the show besides a voice actor and executive producer is the covid 19 psa from 2021. Not to mention he’s too busy focusing on projects like The Orville and the upcoming Ted series on Peacock. He also wanted the show to get cancelled around 2009-2011 so badly but Fox didn’t let him cancel the show which is why we got so many bad episodes in Season 8 and 9 because he wanted people to stop watching new episodes of the show.
Definitely has to be because of sensitivity. Kinda like how the Beavis & Butt-Head fire controversy caused the master tapes of some episodes that had fire references to be permanently altered or lost and the uncensored versions can be only seen from discolored home TV VHS recordings.
Yeah but unlike Beavis and Butthead I’m pretty sure FOX still has the censored version in their archives this was the early 2000s when destroying master tapes and still is wasn’t a thing anymore where you would have bonus features on DVDs with extra material from the episodes unless it’s a rare occurrence when it does happen but unless if FOX re-releases Season 3 like on Blu Ray and have the censored version as a bonus feature or something I don’t think FOX is going to re-release it the best way if the censored version gets found in DVD quality is that if someone recorded that version with a DVR or DVD recorder back in the day otherwise we’re just going to have to wait and see if this censored version will ever be officially released again
@@raretendo6879 Yeah. The creator of Beavis & Butt-Head, Mike Judge, said last year that that MTV did permanent cuts and the only way to view the uncensored versions of some episodes is by old home recordings of early airings.
@@gregramirez4975 Yeah that’s pretty sad I understand Viacom had to do it because of the controversy at the time but they could’ve at least saved the master tapes for historic value but I guess that wasn’t worth it at the time such a shame that the fire scenes is just going to be stuck in vhs recordings forever
@@smb-c3po There were real cases in the 90s where kids recreated what they saw on Beavis & Butt-Head but the big case that opened everyone’s eyes never even involved Beavis & Butt-Head. I saw it the censorship of the Twin Towers, not that is a bad thing it's just something that doesn't need to be censored mainly because this was one of the beautiful architectures in New York that unfortunately got destroyed and of course a lot of innocent lives were lost in the process of that.

Bruh you must have never seen Jerry Springer in the early 2000s. Shit was wild. Everyone thought that was going to contribute to the end of America. They didn’t call it “Trash TV” for nothing.
Saying that a certain detail "ended up dating" is a purely superficial and detracting way of pointing out how it represents the era in which it was made, a factor that should never be considered an imperfection.
It was great then due to the heart and charm of the show. McFarlane intially was gonna make this episode have a more comedic, yet less emotional tone and I am glad he did not. Brian Wallows and Peter's Swallows maybe the best episode in Family guy due to Brian's subplot. It showed a very emotional and touching side to Brian and a great character arc by Pearl. The Family guy fell apart when the writers made Brian extremely unlikable and made half of the episode composed of cutaways.
That's even worse if you want to call it that. Since it looks like aftermath of the attacks. Which makes the censor even more hilarious since it technically looks worse if you see it that way compared to the original uncensored
Family Guy Early 2000's: "an attack happened, better change the episode so we don't upset people in these difficult times" Family Guy 2010's: "Here's an animation I made of a dog eating baby shit out of a diaper and a baby laughing at him for doing it. it's gonna be lit"
@@rafaellucas1433 Well according to the Family Guy wiki it only aired a couple times in the early 2000s and it took 18 years for the censored version to surface online given how obscure it is in which that vhs recording is the only existing one that’s available online
You have to admit, Seth really knocked it out of the park with the song. It gets to the point where it's not a gag song, but a *ACTUAL* song. Edit: I just added this to my Spotify school playlist. What have you done to me Seth....
I like Seth has been singing for over 20 years and even has a Christmas album and tribute to Sinatra but this is somehow the way people realize he can sing well. He even calls himself out in the commentary episode where Peter refers to Seth as meeting the mouse from Sing.
The episode first aired in January 2002, so it's likely the censored version was what premiered. It had only been 4 months after, so FOX likely didn't want any angry "Too soon" letters and calls sent their way, given that this episode was clearly animated before 9/11.

Seth Mcfarlane was originally supposed to board on Flight 11, but due to a hangover, he missed it. The same plane that crashed first into the towers. Imagine where Family Guy would be if we lost him.
@Monkeypox (Nigerian flu) because the US had just been attacked and was going into full swing towards a major war. With the president constantly talking to the troops and working with the fallout of 9/11. Probably was a bit too close to everything for them to start throwing jabs at him. A lot of people may have ripped them a new one at that time as grief and anger was really high and he had a lot of support in the wake of things. With more time jokes like that became fine again but the wounds were still fresh and things were very tense.
@@mariithemarii I think they meant that it’s black in older episodes like this one and it’s red in the later episodes. Here it’s obviously black in both the VHS and non-VHS versions.

Twin towers gone in censored version. The uncensored is probably just another no-no joke

0:45 Twin Towers removed
0:54 Tarat card of George W. Bush was replaced with Jerry Springer

This is straight up my favorite song from Family guy, I can’t stop listening to it, Seth’s voice is so beautiful and harmonious!
I know this episode aired months after 9/11 but damn never knew it was censored
Came for the lost media, stayed in surprise at how good Seth is at singing.

People are too oversensitive to everything ever, I wish we could limit what they're allowed to get offended by.
Maybe they were worried it could trigger ptsd back then?
i think this episode aired like 4 months after the event so no one was making references or touching the subject. The country was still healing from the shock
@@Dystopabut u guys literally caused it u can't just give terrorists money and build military bases on their land and steal oil without idk being attacked
Of all the people they could've switch George W Bush to.... why Jerry Springer? It ended up dating the censored version far more.
@videogameguy101 no right wingers did right wingers cry about everything than call lefties cry babies
Despite the differences which there are a couple. But this still shows of how good Family Guy was back then.
And better
It's still great

0:46 I find it funny that the towers are not even gone in the censored version. They just shortened them.
Not much of a reason to completely remove them.
made it easier to “censor”
That's even worse if you want to call it that. Since it looks like aftermath of the attacks. Which makes the censor even more hilarious since it technically looks worse if you see it that way compared to the original uncensored
Predictive programming nonetheless
Family Guy Early 2000's: "an attack happened, better change the episode so we don't upset people in these difficult times"
Family Guy 2010's: "Here's an animation I made of a dog eating baby shit out of a diaper and a baby laughing at him for doing it. it's gonna be lit"

Someone should make a movie about Seth Mcfarlane's life. Thing is, the best person to do that would be Seth Mcfarlane. 🙂
