    Lovely hammer. I built a spring helve tire hammer awhile back. Not quite as controllable as yours but plenty good enough. You've inspired me to get on with tooling and dies for it. Well done!!!😊

      I too built a slightly modified version of this tire hammer. I used about a week of my summer vacation building a variety of tools that I’m very pleased with…but I am definitely going to add the tapering tool (or two) that you showed to my collection. Thanks for the video!

    Great job on your tooling. I need to make a bunch more for mine this winter for building tongs. I'm still in love with the adjustable head on yours - I wish I would have known about that before I built mine. Thanks for the great video, keep them coming.

      I haven’t used the hammer lots but even so it’s proven very useful to have it adjustable.

    with the big top you plonked on first, you could put a couple of screw in studs on the upright but make the big top a bayonet fit like a light bulb, that way if you swapping between tops its just a twist on / off rather than a set of screws
    watching the vid, might work for the other top tools if you add the same collar?
    with the camera are you using a single focus box or multi, the multi box will focus on anything it wants to that has a contrast ie a brick wall behind the subject, if you use a single focus box and leave it in the center of the camera you'll have a better chance of targeting the subject
    nice set of tools so far, best of all its going to keep you forging longer in life due to the less fatigue on your arms and shoulders,
    great vid Gary

      @garyhuston  9 місяців тому

      My my, you have quite an insight! Quite a good idea, as for the camera it’s so old I don’t think it has an option of multi or single box!😫😫

      There are no plans as such, I just guessed it from Dave Preston’s facebook post. I am waiting for a new camera to arrive, when it gets here I will do a more in-depth walk around as you’re not the first to ask, it will be a good excuse to try it out.

    Great tooling. I think I'm sold on the idea of making one of these, but I'll have to wait until I move workshop so I can make a proper foundation. The tapering die and holder you made is great, so easy to make a bunch of different angles and shapes to fit that holder.
    Are the plans for the hammer still available online somewhere? I found a thing saying to contact clay spencer with a phone number and address, is that it?

    • @garyhuston

      @@sedulousdabbler5468 No magnets, I just made them from copper pipe. one is from 6mm and one from 10mm just flattened with a hammer! Heat them until cherry red and quench to make them soft. They then bend easily to the contours of your wrist.
