Do you have some plugins on the master bus when you start a mix?

Depends, but usually not. One of my mentors swore wholeheartedly to the «top down mixing» approach, starting with the mixbus and working backwards, and it really makes sense and can be a nice time saver. Personally though, I prefer to treat issues as they arise and in order of importance on the track level.
