Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - both! He was famous as a Man U player, then came back to manage them. I guess it depends how old you are and if you follow Man Utd or not.
Norway have had many great sailors, including several Olympic gold medal winers. Former king Olav 5 was Olympic champion. The present king Harald 5 is world champion.
Erling Haaland was actually measured to be 6'5" after he transferred to Manchester City last summer. The internet must've missed it because his height is still stated as 6'4" almost a year later 😅
You said you missed golf and tennis. You mentioned that you knew of the golfer, Viktor Hovland. And in tennis, Casper Ruud. Both top class and still in the game. Also footballers worth mentioning: Ada Hegerberg and Martin Ødegaard. Handball: Cecilie Leganger, Nora Mørk, Heidi Løke and basicly the womens team overall. Lots of wc wins, olympics too.
Marit Bjørgen deserves to be called a national treasure. Look her up, she trained and did the work her own way, she was so built and complete that she got a lot of critic and hate from other competitors etc. She is a great person and atlete.
Great video as always Tyler! Would be great if you searched the names on UA-cam and watched highlights-videos of the athletes! It would create a much better understanding of the sport and accomplishments, and is actually incredibly entertaining!
Norway is the only team two have won European championship, World championship and Olympic games at the same time, TWICE. Our handball girls are the best.
I'm surprised that Norwegian alpine skiers like Aksel Lund Svinedal, Lasse Kjus, Kjetil Andre Aamodt aren't mentioned. Norway had and have great alpine skiers.
I also think the most impressive Norwegian stat is that with a current population of around 5 million. They hold the record for most Winter olympic medals of all time with 405 medals... Coming in 2nd is The USA with 330 (population over 300 million) 3rd: Germany with 286 (over 80 million...) and 4th with less than half the medals of Norway, Russia with a population of over 140 million... that insane !!!
If you count chess as a sport, then you also have the reigning world champion in chess for 10 years in a row. He’s decided not to defend his title this year. While his chess competitors are fighting for his title, he’s playing poker in the US. His name is Magnus Carlsen
There are many more, and also more sports. We have a nice tv-show called the masters of the masters (mesternes mester) where retired athleets compete against each other in different challanges. Very amusing to watch. And quite a few seaspns.
What! You haven’t heard of the American cross country skier Jessica Diggins? She and teammate Kikkan Randall won the United States' first-ever cross-country skiing gold medal at the Winter Olympics in the team sprint in 2018.[2][3] At the 2022 Winter Olympics, Diggins won the silver medal in the 30 kilometer freestyle and the bronze medal in the individual sprint, making her the most decorated American cross-country skier of all time. She also won four medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships from 2013 to 2017 and would later become the first American to win a gold medal at the event for an individual contest in 2023. In 2021, Diggins clinched the top spot in the women's overall standings for the 2020-21 FIS Cross-Country World Cup, becoming the first American to do so. Diggins also won a world championship gold medal in 10 km freestyle cross skiing 2023 Planica. She’s so cute💕

Chess) 3) Hovland (golf) 4) Casper Ruud (tennis) 5) Ole Einar Bjørndalen We have absolutly one of the best offshoots ski, but after my generation i have to mention Ole Einar Bjønrdalen for that one. But no disrespect for the women in ski, they are absoutly beast.
Petter Northug lost his good reputation among the public (he was very revered and beloved by all of Norway) after he was in a car accident, where he drove drunk into a dangerous mountainside. He left his injured passenger and friend at the scene and fled.
That's really hard, but if we're talking currently active ones, I'd say (off the top of my head) Magnus Carlsen, Erling Haaland, Martin Ødegaard, Ada Hegerberg, and Casper Ruud. Yes, we have a lot of brilliant winter olympians, but Carlsen is the best chess player in history - and it is much harder to become among the best in the world in football/tennis than winter sports. Same goes for golf, when I think about it, so it's really hard to exclude Viktor Hovland and Suzann Pettersen. Number 6 and 7 right there.
Agree! Figure skating is much bigger than all other wintersports that Norway has been good at. She was on top for so many years. Is she the best Norwegian athlete of all time...? probably not, but she is by far the biggest star we hava had!
I guess one can mention Casper Ruud in tennis who was ranked 2nd on the atp last year. Or Viktor Hovland who is way up there in golf also. But these are microsports in Norway with maybe less than 1000 active players in each sport.
Stein Eriksen. 4 olympic gold medals alpine skiing. Famous in america. Johann Olav Koss should also be on the list. Speed skating. Several olympic gold medals.
What about Dag Otto Lauritzen? He joined the Army Paratroopers after his conspription period in the Army was over because it looked awesome. Then, after his time was up, he joined the police, and the 'Beredskapstroppen'(armed reactionary force) because it was difficult. While in the police he got introduced to cycling... Then he got called in for a big exercise in the army in 1980, and almost lost his foot during a jump from a Twin-Otter. He was told that he would have trouble walking normally, never mind ever cycling again. The next year he became Norwegian champion in cycling. He became the first Norwegian to win a stage on the Tour de France in 1987. In 1992, he was leading in Tour of Norway, but on the last stage he got a flat on his rear tire. The Mechanic(from the follow car) hurried to replace the wheel, but unfortunately broke the gears. Dag Otto grabbed a regular bike someone had left beside the road. He won the race with a 20meter lead on the next cyclist. On the picture of him crossing the line you can see the handlebar bag and the fenders on the bike. These days he run a TV show 'Company Lauritzen' where he takes mostly young adults that never got out of their parents' basement, put them in a military setting(it's even an old military camp) and push them to their limits and show them that they really can do it. He doesn't believe in words like 'impossible'

you didnt notice that Petter was World Champion in Rallying 2003 also he is a Rallycross world champion. He is the first driver in history to be world champion in two different FIA branches. Fernando Alonso has done the same now but Petter was first :D
i would give a shout out to our King of Norway as well- 3 times Olympic games, gold medals in in World cup for sailing + much more
you probably wanna look up "Petter Solberg speaking english" :D
Oh, dear Lord - NO! 😂
Dear lord YESS 😂😂😂
I remember there was a comment somewhere like «it’s not surprising Norway is good at skiing, if they were good at beach volleyball, that wpuød be surprising» and the Norwegians were like, «yeah, we have something to tell you», because we have Moi and Sørum, and they have won all the beach volleyball 😂
Ole Gunnar Solskjær is most famous for his winning goal in the 1999 champions league final. Manchester United legend.
Can't believe you just skipped reading a little about Bjørn Dæhlie.
From 1992 to 1999, Dæhlie won the Nordic World Cup six times, finishing second in 1994 and 1998.[1] Dæhlie won a total of 29 medals in the Olympics and World Championships between 1991 and 1999, making him the most successful male cross-country skier in history.
Fun fact Bjørn Dæhlie is my neighbor, he bought a house here in Sweden last year.
@@hafertr1235 heard he now hasemigrated to Switzerland
Norway is a winter sport nation
A lot of speed skaters and skiers (cross country, ski jump, alpine). (Stein Eriksen, Kjetil Andre Aamodt, Lasse Kjus all in alpine)
Sonja Henie, figure skater. 3x olympic champion an 10x world champions in the 1930ies, then become a Hollywood star.
The rise and fall of Petter Northug was so incredible to witness. He rose as the greatest athlete of all time, sponsorships in the millions, international fame and then .... Money, fame, drugs, party and driving under the influence if i remember correctly? A crash? Arrest, home searched by the police, drugs. Yea it was a rollercoaster
There are still videos on the internet of him at a party, someone opening the bathroom door and he's banging some 18 year old and snorting at the same time.
A dumb-ass. Hopefully he learns and makes good, because what he did was to ruins his reputation over night, a stupid, stupid choice.
But, person and craft, his athletic achievements are amazing and he was one of the greatest ever, period.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - both! He was famous as a Man U player, then came back to manage them. I guess it depends how old you are and if you follow Man Utd or not.
if they didet fier him, unitid woud have won the prem ad markus woud have won the golden boot! now its going to haaland and thats alright
Norway have had many great sailors, including several Olympic gold medal winers. Former king Olav 5 was Olympic champion. The present king Harald 5 is world champion.
Johan Olav Koss and Håvard Bøkko !!
Skates
Erling Haaland was actually measured to be 6'5" after he transferred to Manchester City last summer. The internet must've missed it because his height is still stated as 6'4" almost a year later 😅
Hey, u do have a great cross country skier ... jessica Diggins...
When talking "of all time", Sonja Henie should definitely be on the list. One of the most famous, influential and accomplished athletes of all time.
Marit Bjørgen deserves to be called a national treasure.
Look her up, she trained and did the work her own way, she was so built and complete that she got a lot of critic and hate from other competitors etc.
She is a great person and atlete.
Biathlon is big in countries like Norway, Sweden and Germany. Can be more than 100.000 visitors over a weekend.
Ole Gunnar should be on the “nicest athletes of Norway as well” 😊 we went to the same school
Great video as always Tyler! Would be great if you searched the names on UA-cam and watched highlights-videos of the athletes! It would create a much better understanding of the sport and accomplishments, and is actually incredibly entertaining!
We always do well in snowboard too, Tyler
Female handball players are criminally neglected here !!
Probably the greatest ever handball nation on the women's side !!
Norway is the only team two have won European championship, World championship and Olympic games at the same time, TWICE.
Our handball girls are the best.
@@OriginalPuro yeah, but its a small spot. up there with langrenn
Cecilia Brækhus. She was the best femal boxer in the world the last 15 years up to three years ago
Fantastic video Tyler!
I'm surprised that Norwegian alpine skiers like Aksel Lund Svinedal, Lasse Kjus, Kjetil Andre Aamodt aren't mentioned. Norway had and have great alpine skiers.
Aksel Lund Svindal was mentioned here.
Kjus and Aamodt are legends, they should be on the list.
The 90s
Tommy langaker, first World Champion in BJJ from Europe.
Well done!
Good content! Your pronounciation is also amazingly good on several of these names! :)
And can I mention Aslaug Nesja, World Record in Death-diving, invented at 'Frognerbadet' in 1972 (Døds)🎉❤
We got Magnus Midtbø who is an Norwegian climber
I would personally put five people on the list.
1) Erling Haaland (Man city striker)
2) Magnus Carlsen (do i really mention what he does? Dosen't everyone know who he is? Well, okay then. Chess)
3) Hovland (golf)
4) Casper Ruud (tennis)
5) Ole Einar Bjørndalen
We have absolutly one of the best offshoots ski, but after my generation i have to mention Ole Einar Bjønrdalen for that one.
If we're talking Norwegian footballers, Ada Hegerburg and Frida Maanum do amazing things on the women's side.
Hegerberg
Hegerberg is overrated.
Yeah, I said it.
Sonja Henie is the biggest sport star from Norway ever
Agree! Figure skating is much bigger than all other wintersports that Norway has been good at. She was on top for so many years. Is she the best Norwegian athlete of all time...? probably not, but she is by far the biggest star we hava had!
No i like klæbo

Important to mention Dag Otto Lauritzen and the "bull" from Grimstad Thor Hushovd
Yep, Dag Ottos bronze medal from Los Angeles 1984.
Safe to say that Haaland, Carlsen and Solskjær are the 3 biggest names

There's a video I'd love for you to react that's about maths and sports and Norway (well at least partially).
7:24
Remember, we don't do all of those silent letters. ;-)
You did most of the earlier names pretty well.
Grete Waitz has won New York City Marathon nine times! :)
Jessica Diggins must really feel special at home, lol. Maybe we get happier for her wins here in Norway than americans do 😛
Love it when underdogs win, Jessica Diggins is absolutely not a underdog but I would love to see more skiers from other countrys, not Just the nordic countrys and russia Germany, Zwitzerland, rich ski nations should help poor nations on their feet. We need more competition, not Just the same old. Not Just meet up to collect the medals.
Please make a video about the most accomplished Norwegian music artists ever based on world sales/popularity/awards etc.
Jan Stenerud - American football
Knute Kenneth Rockne - American football
Julie Nataas - NHRA Dragracer
Casper Ruud is an Norwegian Tennis player. Casper Ruud is a Norwegian tennis player from Snarøya who is ranked number three in the world on the ATP world rankings. Best ranking was No. 2 in the world. Ruud represents Snarøya Tennisklubb, and is the son of former tennis player Christian Ruud

Actually, my favorite cross-country skier is American- Jessica Diggins. She became the first American to win individual world championship gold. Also have WC and Olympic gold in Team Sprint,. You should check her out.
In alpine skiing, USA has been VERY successful - both men and women, Check out Body Miller, and especially Mikaela Shiffrin. In USA she's a superstar, and i mean A-Celeb superstar. Seen by many as the second-best skier in history, after Ingemar Stenmark
Marit Bjørgen is the single greatest Winter Olympian of all time, she's not "just a known skier", she is the best that has ever walked the planet in terms of medals won.
Just FYI, the top 4 best Winter Olympians of all time are all Norwegians. Winter = Norway dominates.
We are also starting to crush certain Summer Olympic games, Norway is basically one of the best countries in the world when it comes to sports, both at the top and in the general public.
You need to read a little bit more than just the 4-5 lines of generic text google gives you.
i have to mention some motersports people that dont get mentioned. we have fredric aasbø 3 times world champion in drifting.
dennis hauger a young star in formula 2 driver on his way to become formula 1 driver.
lesser known rally drivers henning solberg brother of petter solberg, and petter solberg son oliver solberg.
Ole Christian VEIBY rally cross driver.
For me one of the all time Norwegian will be Bjørn Dæhlie.
Man with 8 Olympics gold, 5 World Cup Overall tittel, and many time World Champions in Ski Cross Country Ski.
He was the real man of Norway in the 1990s.
Hello! There are many great skiers from the USA, too, Tayler! Micaela Shiffrin, Kikken Randell, Jessi Diggins, Rosie Brennan, just to name a few! You should at least have heard of Shiffrin, since she is the most winning woman in Alpine branches of all time!
Ive definitely heard about Jessi Diggins! Not the others but Im not an expert or anything, I know the Norwegian ones better.
Olaf tufte (rowing) should also be on this list
Casper Ruud ranked fourth in the world in Tennis
Viktor Hovland ranked ninth in Golf
I am from Norway 🇳🇴
