- Some may question his methods, but the God of War only wants what’s best for his… *clears throat*... BOY! It’s Father vs Son, Dad vs Parenting For Dummies, Kratos vs Atreus in BOY: God of War Battle Rap!
While the promise of tough battles in God of War Ragnarok looms over Kratos, no doubt featuring plenty of giants, draugr and ogres - not to mention the threat posed by Baldur, Magni, Modi, and the Chris Hemsworth lookalike, Thor - the bald-headed Spartan needs Atreus to step up. And there's only one way he can get his son to do that. It’s time for Kratos to obtain double god status: the GOW (God of War) is also now the GOR (God of Rapnarok).

Boy went from a clueless kid to a complete badass at the end of game, I’m sure Kratos would be proud but he probably wouldn’t say it out loud.
@Superlazyboy07 Can imagine his aknowledgement being simply something like in this rap- going from teaching "shot them in the throat or you won't destroy", to proudly just telling him "shoot them. Slay them. Dead them."
Well, one of Kratos' struggles in being a good father is that he doesn't want him to be like him. I mean, he would be proud in that he can defend himself, but being a badass in this series is being a genocidal maniac 9 times out of 10.

@Superlazyboy07 his Spartan upbringing alone doesn’t really lend him to being that sort of father. The life of a Spartan is ruthless especially when training to be one, praise would probably be the barest acknowledgment of your success and comforting someone is equally rare. Him having to express his love and concern in an open way is just difficult for him.
Fun fact: Kratos calls Atreus boy because when those lines of dialog were recorded they didn't have a name for Atreus.

can we just appreciate kratos for doing everything to change himself despite what he has done, will do, and still hold back his nature to preserve Faye's wish for the future of him and her son? the willpower of kratos is unwavering and it is very inspiring to see a man so low being the best he can for a future that doesnt involve himself.
For a Spartan, failure is never an option, no matter the mission.
Kratos is a literal Male Icon... His past transgressions were born from a natural masculine desire for strength, then revenge... He tried so many times to live peacefully but he's never left alone... Nothing low or holding back... Just targeted rage and wisdom gained from decades of fighting, betrayal and loss.... He knows what his son is capable of and could become if taken down the wrong path like he was so he wants to provide a trained mindset upon Atreus

I love the way the meaning "Come here Boy, Stay there Boy, Sit down Boy, Stand up Boy" changes from a father trying to keep his distracted boy in check to actual lessons on how to fight via the animation. And then they change to "Get them Boy, Dead them Boy, Smash them Boy, Slay them Boy", essentially changing from Learning to Experienced.
Kratos probably sees his son as being able to surpass him his Atraus would only just learn discipline.

His growth is shown in detail over a long game, atreus' character changes just kind of happen without any real insight for the player and arguably without any real set up

Loved that Shao was able to hype up almost every great about GOW but still throws in lines that elaborates just how tragic of a character Kratos is and his personal struggles in being a good father under the stressful situation their in.

Even though this video came before Ragnarok came out (Therefore missing key things from the game's plot and characters), its aged pretty well, and pretty much sums up Kratos and his sons' growing badassery!
This was awesome and horrifying. It shows the truth of their world, become the violence or die (it's kind of a necessary paradigm for that genre of game) but also hangs a lantern on multigenerational hatred and inherited sin. Brilliantly done Mashed!

This is probably my FAVORITE track by you! The progression of Atreus growing in both age and skill through the game is CLEARLY displayed through your lyrics, especially the chorus (and the scheme “Sins of the father, Sins of the son, but he can’t know the things that I’ve done! So I’m running from the man that I was and the one he’s becoming” gave me SHIVERS). But my favorite part, and one that I haven’t seen anyone else mention, is at 1:25 when the sun and moon are circling in the sky - so does your voice. That wraparound in the headphones had me standing in Atreus’ shoes with you (Kratos) walking circles around me as I’m training just going BOY!
And yes, I know Shao’s saying “War” in that section. It doesn’t change the visual it creates in my head though
