  • Eco dyeing is one of the most fascinating techniques to create awesome papers for junk journals or other paper craft projects. That's for sure. But it's also a really time consuming method and the smell... ugh. There are some people who even can't do it, because they have health issues and can't work with ingredients like vinegar or alum, which are used for eco dyeing. What if there was a way to create fake eco dyed papers without waiting time, without bad smell, without vinegar & alum and with the possibility to get colors that you woudn't get from plants with the real method?
I've turned my results from this video into a digital ephemera pack for you, which you can find here:

Beautiful prints, I have also been making fake eco dyeing but with fresh leaves and ink pads and sprays, but i roll mine through my Big Shot embossing machine. They turn out awesome. I do have videos showing how. I think you could combine the two methods and get some really great prints. Thanks for sharing your process.

But, I tell you, girl...I am doing THIS...TODAY!🤩 So much faster, easier, less mess, offers far more control & color specificity. Absolutely stunning!💖

Oh my goodness, Luise, I am so impressed that you have come up with such an excellent way to make faux eco-dying. I have avoided the eye-dying process because of all the work, time, and odor of this process. This way, I can experiment and hopefully make some gorgeous papers. I so appreciate your experimentations. I can’t wait until I have some leaves to press and use, or maybe, I’ll just create some die cuts, especially with the leaves that Tim Holtz has given us with all the eaten away parts. Thank you so very much for all your time to come up with this marvelous technique. You’re the best, my dear!

OMGosh... these are incredible. So much prettier after you removed some of the excess ink too. I think a cotton dishtowel to pick up the excess paint because the cloth becomes an awesome piece of art too... to rip/tear, die cut, whatever and used it someplace else. I'm going to have to give this a try. TFS

On some, I agree that there was too much oxidation on the leaf design, but in some instances, I liked some because the veins of the leaf showed up a little better with some oxidation left on the leaf, but not all; the water-brush was genius because you could control how much to take off or leave. LOVELY Luise... really lovely.

I tried this yesterday and my prints turned out fairly well for a first try. Some were patchy with white areas and I wanted to try to save them so when they dried I went round the leaf outlines with fine black pen and added green distress in from a pad with a blending brush - and rescued them! This may help another beginner like me? I am learning so much from your videos- thank you x

I don’t have any oxyde distress ink, except the distress spray (vintage photo) but I do have a lots of acrylic ink. I. I’ll give it a try. Also I’m currently dying a lots of fabric with these inks, trying to reproduce what I see with eco dying. 😊
