Richie is a highly versatile metal player influenced by players who had great influences. Nico just played the gates of hell solo, theres an EMG TV video with Richie playing it, its just awe inspiring.
I appreciate how you reinforce fundamentals; like getting a feel for the rhythm section over which you're soloing first, before plowing into the solo itself. I started applying this practice when learning new solos last year and it not only upped my rhythm game, but also gave me a deeper appreciation for solo licks themselves. Also, great call on giving Richie some love. Invincible Shield is probably the best thing that's happened in 2024. Keep up the great work, Nico!
agree I had my guitar teachers teach me these pentatonic and 3NP diatonic scale exercises and really builds chops doing these wood shedding guitar exercises!
I have never been that into Judas Priest but I must say when I heard that "new" song, Crown Of Thorns, for the first time on our rock radio station in Sweden this summer, I really loved it. That Richie Faulkner signature guitar intro and how he incorporates that intro into the solo later on in the song, it was an instant masterpiece for me. I must have listened to that song well over 100 times this summer and I have never heard any other song from Judas Priest even a third of those 100 Crown Of Thorns listens :D Masterpiece!
@@LicksOfTheBeast Richie really is the master of the modern classic guitar solo. I don’t think the guitar community appreciates him as much as it should!
Please do an analysis of the solo of Alison Hell by Annihilator! Such an awesome solo and i think Jeff Waters is one of the most underappreciated metal guitarists!
Noot a guitarr playeri a drummer and a singer once in a while but...Faulkner saved JP and hes saving legacy heavy metal ...GoH...my favorite track alongside with Sons of Thunder on The Album of the Decade for me. And im a diehard Maidenhead so...
Glad you found it as well! 😃 I noticed Richie uses a bit of a different fingering on the first lick of the second section of the solo that it makes it a bit more percussive, so I posted a new version of just the playthrough. Just to be a bit more accurate about it 🙂 ua-cam.com/users/shorts29VmsZaZeyw?feature=share
My man. I listened to this song first, and the solo sold me on the entire record. Such a fantastic solo, and now I get to learn it easily thanks to you!
Infinite Dreams solo on the beginning of the vídeo, over JP song? I think I read about him being considered if Maiden needed a replacement but he ended up going to Priest
Oh! 🤔 Nice catch! 😃 He has cited Murray among his influences so it's not surprising to have him quote a lick or two. Not sure if it was intended or it just came out like that spontaneously, but that is a very nice way to take the idea behind that phrase and make it sound like Richie. The guy is just a phenomenal player! 👏👏👏
EPIC VIDEO NICKO. Love faulkners playing and your breakdowns! It would be incredible to see some elegeant weapons solos broken down too, having trouble learning them by myself. Thanks a lot. Keep up the incredible work!
Richie is my favorite heavy metal/rock guitar player from this generation. He became my favorite instantly after I first heard him. I agree 100% with you. By the way, Gates of Hell is my favorite track from the new Judas Priest album and in general one of my favorite metal songs! It is so melodic and heavy metal at the same time! That is my favorite recipe of guitar playing! \m/
Gates of Hell is by far my favorite song on the album.. the riff and the energy of the song itself is massive.. the solo is very catchy and makes me want to listen over and over again.. I appreciate the breakdown of the parts to better understand his way of thinking and it does help with my own playing.. although itll take a million years to reach Richies level .. still inspiring to say the least .. 😂
Another great video Brother! I really appreciated discussing approach and strategy instead of the more granular approach you also called out. Great stuff!
Not many people know, but Richie Faulkner is dating the daughter of George Lynch. Richie and Mariah Lynch also have a child together. Can you imagine being the grandchild of George Lynch?
The vibrato you are playing here is not the way I like it. It is too fast and not wide enough. In this case that's a compliment because you copy Faulkner's vibrato very precisely. What is your own vibrato like? More like Adrian or more like Richie?
For me, it depends on the feeling or the vibe I am trying to convey... On this one, there is very little space between the notes so a slow and wide Adrian-esque vibrato isn't really possible and it would be a bit out of place anyway. Still, to your point, I agree that I played it a bit too tight on this particular take - I uploaded a short of this solo where I changed the fingering of one lick because I realized Richie plays that part diagonally and not in the box like the first lick. My vibrato came out more natural on that take. 😊
@@LicksOfTheBeast Yes, there was not enough space to play a wide vibrato. I mean there is no right or wrong. It is only the personal taste. To my ears a small and fast vibrato often sounds hectic. Adrian, Schenker, Lukather, Lynch...that's my taste and yours too I think.:-)
The first step to learn from Richie is how to survive an aortic dissection DURING a live show, followed by the theory of melody. Beast of a guitarist!
There's no learning fortitude and the passionate will to live... That sh*t's innate!
god tier for sure! metal AF too!
100% agree, Ritchie is an amazing player! I think in Invisible shield he was able to express all his techniques.
Love Richie…I’ve been fortunate to see him twice with Priest and he was on fire both times.
god tier and loved the show this weekend with Judas Priest, Anthrax and Iron Maiden. Truly epic show!
Yes! Please MORE solos from Invincible Shield Album. A true masterpiece!

As in all things, the ones who excel tend to be the ones with the deeper understanding of the fundamentals. 😊

I'm glad to see he's getting back to full health. He's a great great guitarist and seems a good lad as well

You have missed a lot in your live
Watching this while working on the diminished run at the end of the do or die solo. That elegant weapons record is so damn good.
That's another killer solo - actually, that one too features some of the same concepts I touch on in this video 😊

Oh my gosh, thats a great solo!!! Great performance and explaination!

Holy smoke bro that was amazing....

Thanks for the kind compliment!
@@LicksOfTheBeast Thanks for the guitar education! Its always a nice surprise when you upload!
fun fact: Steve Harris considered Richie as potential replacement for Iron Maiden.
that speaks volumes and he was incredible this past weekend at Aftershock. Top tier metal guitarist

Incredible ❤
Love the Falcon!! 🤘👽🎸
Richie Faulkner saved Judas Priest from extinction.

I would appreciate a general tips and tricks video about analysing other players and implementing it into your own playing😄😄😄. Nico great as always
He’s a monster player

guitar god offspring!
I learned he’s good and I am not 😂
Same, feels bad man 😂
Never give up!!
Yeah but... WHY? 😁
Richie's sound vaguely reminds me of Buck Dharma, at least in his solos, and I don't know why.
Great analysis! I'd love to hear how you play the Valley of Death by Sabaton.
Thank you!
I play it like this 😊

my last guitar teacher taught me a lot of these exercises to play thrash metal
I wish I was half as good as Richie...lol
