1) The reason many people's hands are down is because you have to protect your body since almost most kicks are to the body. Then you basically just have to hope you're good enough to bring up your hands in time or dodge head kicks. 2) I'm really happy about the rule changes from this fight to now (2012). Even though some fights are still boring, it definitely rewards fighters who attack instead of where you get scored on almost every time you move, like Blue does in this fight.
Koyaanitsqatsi, if your leg/s get injured during any fight then you are highly likely to loose. Every punch, kick, graple and throw STARTS FROM THE GROUND UP. I'd like to see you try and hit someone with a bust leg. They do have guards however generally if you block the opponent they will still score. The idea is to get out of the way or to counter. TKD is a mind game.
they are black belts and those kicks in competions are not that good and in competion when its easier to score to the body than it is scoring to the head since they cut there distance alot.
TKD can be a very fan friendly and exiting sport to watch. The rules have to be changed (disallow the excessive holding, don't allow competitors to stop just because they scored a point, make them fight their way out of clinches, drop the point system and use a boxing style round scoring system, maybe loose the body protector, disqualify both competitors for lack of action if warranted, and maybe allow punching to the head while adding a face shield so as to not turn this into kickboxing etc). Anyway, maybe the head punching would turn this into something else so maybe that's a dumb idea but hey I'm just thinking out loud. We need to explore ideas! Without calling each other stupid for doing so. I love TKD. But this is not fun to watch. And it's getting worst. P.S: amateur boxing (which I'm involved with) is also boring to watch at the Olympic level. So they are in the process of changing amateur boxing rules so that it becomes more fan friendly. TKD needs to also change.
FightDayBoxing.com I 100% agree. I love practicing TKD and I love sparring even more, but I just can't stand the competition rules, especially the stop for each point. It ruins it completely. I get that its still a sport competition, but as you said they could take a lot of rules from boxing. Aspects like pressure, exhaustion, even combination strikes and strategy have no place in current TKD like they do in boxing. Its a real shame that such a great martial style doesn't allow for the competitors to truly fight.
What is the color of there belts? Why they always use 45kick when they are kicking. why they don't try turning side kick ? & Why they dont hit there heads? why always in body shot
@thirdseasons Sadly it is :( but that really depend of the school. In my school the sport combat is not so important cause must of the student does really want to learn how to fight in case they were attacked but it's still fun to compete and i love it.:D
people don't know anything about the world taekwondo federation and speak a lot of bullsh*ts at a championship there are rules to be followed, then the competition is always like this video that you watched at a normal training we learn punches, many defencive moves, tactics of self defense and kicks... it's a complete martial art so, don't worry... if you get in trouble for any reason with a good taekwondo fighter, prepare yourself for more than championship kicks
@janelovesJELW The black belt means your basic knowledge is complete, the use a lot of bodykicks cause the first round you try to learn the fighting tactics of your oponnent, they don't hit to the head cause you waste to much energy and strengh kicking high and must of this tournament are 3 or 4 fights with 3 rounds each one. So imagine 9 to 12 round of 2:30 minutes each one ;).
ok, so competition TKD should be called just Tae... considering it doesns't use the hand (kwon), or at least rarely, and definately isin't an art (do), it's a sport... Tae Sport maybe... nothing like the traditional foot hand art..
TKD (in competition) did not always look like this. This is unwatchable. Yes, both are extremely talented athletes but the current rules or emphasis on a point based sport does not help the very talented competitors. Imagine if boxing was turned into a point based system (in boxing you give a round to a boxer based on an accumulation of different criteria not just because one boxer taps the other boxer etc. In other words, ring generalship, aggression, the harder shots, etc etc). Well if boxing or MMA turned into a point based system SPORT the likes of Tae Kwon Do, no one would watch. TKD has to change back to what it was (30-40 years ago).
the uniform from mexico is insanely HUGE LMAO
I bet it's a mix between happy tears and painful tears, seeing as he won..

please upload -62 male final and semifinal.
It's too bad cause it could become a popular sport to watch.
actually in tae kwon do it requires you to protect your head. idk why people don't protect their heads tho
man,they're very good
los ke van a estos eventos son nadamas ke lo mejor ke tiene mexico.... kiza con algunas ecepciones....con todo al preolimpiko memo
other than for blocking and pushing off, they arent allowed to do anything with them
even so they should always keep their guard up
What happend to the Block & Hands
