Shawn Kemp was one of my favorites back in the day. His dunks were tenacious and he dunked on some of the best shot blockers at the time. He has provided me with some of my best childhood memories.
Best in game dunker ever. People can say what about this or that dunk by Vince Carter or Michael Jordan, but Kemp had dozens of them. My favorite was the double clutch reverse dunk on Kenny Skywalker of the Knicks
How he's not in the HOF, is a crime! My favourite player ever. Not only could be dunk but his mid range was on point, rebound numbers very respective. Great times back in the day
@@vincente4570 Of course I know Dominique!!! First in technique but Kemp achieved harder dunks. Don't get me wrong. Let's say that they're almost equal.
Thank you for this. I miss seeing Shawn Kemp soaring and dunking. It always makes me shake my head when ppl say Michael Jordan's era only had plumbers and a bunch of no bodies.
For those guys that doesn't know a bit about the 90's, that dream team have 11 of 12 players in the Hall of Fame. That team left some players out that were still in the process or other already consummated stars. The Lakers, Celtics & Sixers are my favorite teams from the 80's. Then the 90's came with the dirty but efficient Pistons, then the Bulls, Knicks, Suns, Blazers, Jazz, Sonics, Pacers and more. Then the early 2000's with the new Lakers, Spurs, Kings... sadly that Celtics team with just one title. Iverson. Man, those 3 decades are my favorites plus the Nowitski's title with the Mavs and the last Spurs' titles. From there the NBA is not the same. Those guys were tough. Today's NBA is soft.
His reactions after those insane plays is what is etched into my mind. He had the character. Well timed. Amazing days of basketball. Those arenas were absolutely electric!!
My favorite player of all time!! I remember listening to that Knicks game on the radio because I'm canadian and they never televised games back then. The commentator went nuts and I had to wait till the sport highlight show at 11 pm to see it. Worth the wait.
he was my favourite player by far. i stopped following NBA 20 years ago, but will never forget his power and athleticism (does that word even exist). i still have his green jersey in a frame, hanging from one of my house's walls im Barcelona, and a funny kemp funko figure as well. great memories from my childhood!
Kemp was one of my favorites back then. I was into collecting sports and comic cards, so I traded alot for Shawn Kemp. I have a booklet dedicated to him, I wanted to collect 40 different cards of him as a tribute to his jersey number. I only made it to 27ish cards. Great times!
I’ll never forget the commentator when he had that tomahawk dunk against the Lakers. “Kemp’s all over that rebound like a bad suit, outta backcourt he comes outta the block!!”👍🏾😂😂😂😂😂😂
Had the pleasure of seeing my favorite player Shawn Kemp at McNichols arena in 1994 as a 9 year old kid. Don’t remember a whole lot but I definitely remember being stoked I got to watch the rain man in person.
That funky dunk against New York was one of my favorite and first intro to kemp back around 89. A lot of people around my way hadn’t heard of him because I think Mckee or Polynice was starting before him. I said I gotta keep up with this kid
I love me some Shawn Kemp. Such an exciting player to watch in the 90's. If I could alter history, he would've finished his career in Seattle with Payton.
Greatest of all time! Best Slam Dunks boy was a machine. Love the quicknest power, lmao rodman tbagged himself just to either intimidate or try hurt him he so good.
the golden era of the NBA.. no.40 was also my favourite. it was really difficult to watch in Australia in the 90s. games were shown at specific times on TV only. it was so exciting to watch. brings back so much memories.
I watch these videos, but I was fortunate enough to see him in person in game against the Warriors at the Oakland Colosseum in the early '90s. It was mind blowing His leaping ability was amazing to watch. He did a variation of an alyoop where he had his back to the rim, caught the ball, spun around and dunked it with power. I was only like 8 rows up from the floor so it was incredible to see him pop up above everyone at that angle. The guy had rockets on his legs.
My very first nba jersey when i was a kid was shawn kemp's cleveland #4. Love the way he plays. Humble but an animal on the court. Felt bad with the way he left the game.
Shawn Kemp was my favorite Sonics player, and one of my favorite players of the 90s, and of all time I'd say! He and the other superstars from the 80s and 90s bring back so many great memories from when I was growing up as a kid and as an adolescent in those two awesome eras! Keep up the good work!
Shawn was a beast in SEA. what really sets his dunks over the top as a fan watching was the SuperSonics play by play man who absolutely knew his craft as well, today- leflop picks his nose on the bench and the announcers are having fits. Thank you SD for this video..

The rain main(reign man) definitely one of the best athletes and pure hoopers of ANY era, and would have killed in this era even more because of his style was so wide open.😎💯
Your comment about the 1980's Saturday morning cartoons and cold cereal made my day better. I felt like Anton Ego at the end of Ratatouille. Within seconds, my emotional memory had me back on the floor of my childhood home watching Popeye, Voltron and He - Man. Those days filled with the magic of imagination connected to endless possibilities; when the hardest decision was to choose between Trix or Captain Crunch.
I personally think Dominique Wilkins, "The Human Highlight Reel", was the best in-game power dunker in 80's and 90's. He was a guy who could get you 25 to 30 points on a given night.
More so In the 80's. Wilkins lost his explosiveness in 1991 after rupter his Achilles tendon. Kemp was explosive from 1990 until 1998. Then the fat started adding sadly.
I remember Shawn Kemp first hand. My buddies dad ran a basketball summer league in Mishawaka Indiana. He would come home to visit his mom who lived in neighboring city Elkhart Indiana. During that time he would play some games down with the guys down at a park called Merrifield in Mishawaka. I seen him a couple of times and met him once one on one. He came into a gas station that my family owned on his way to his moms. I was the only one on the premises that knew who he was. I was 13-14 years old maybe. I got his autograph on one of my dad’s business cards and still have it to this day. He was very nice and had the biggest hands I’ve ever seen.
I'm glad the NBA is working on bringing the Sonics back little by little. Fans are beginning to realize time and time again how loyal and passionate Seattle is, every time they do little exhibitions and preseason games there
I was devastated that my man The ReignMan was not in the bloody 75 NBA legends list, he deserves to be there, people are sleeping on Shawn !!!
