What EMTB would you recommend to a beginner in the mountain bike world? I recently bought the Specialized Turbo Tero 5.0, but haven't been able to ride it yet because of clavicle surgery. I want to progress in my riding to a full suspension EMTB. Thank you, John
Love watching reviews that you guys do gives everyone pretty good insight of what they wanna buy. A few of these bikes that you reviewed I have and it makes me feel good about my purchase. Thanks guys.
12:16: one comment on the Timp Peak seat tube angle. The effective angle is 77.5. Fezzari measures effective seat tube angle at set saddle heights in each size (listed in the geo charts in the website). The size large Timp peak has a 77.5 effective seat tube angle a saddle height of 720mm. This is the rough saddle height of someone with a 33” inseam, which is really common for someone on a size large frame.
Hello, I love your reviews and really taught me a lot about e-mtb. I've been riding bikes for a bit now and finally, I decided to get an ebike, just not sure which one would it be more convenient for me, if an sl or a full-power one, I saw both of your shootouts for full-power and sl. I don't have much free time so I think the full-power one, would be better to gain some time on the way up but I wouldn't wanna lose the play when going down. I live in Squamish, Canada, so trails tend to be a bit more technical than flowy with some tight corners. I'm around 5'7. Thanks in advance for any advice. Also if you don't mind asking, where does the Santa Cruz Heckler Sl stands in your sl podium?
Thanks for your thoughtful reviews on who this bike is for. I watch/read all your reviews with an eye for what type of bikes would work for me. The "most likely to recommend" is the award that is most meaningful for me.
Awesome reviews, you guys really do it right!!! On the Rocky Mountain just found out from Rocky they sent me the following regarding the cranks: "There aren't currently any 160mm cranks available on market that fit the required spindle spacing of our bikes. The closest you'll be able to fit is 165mm as Race Face offers their Atlas crank in that size with a 151mm spindle length. If you want to go down that route, you'll also need to convert your bottom bracket, clutch spider and lockring to 30mm as the Atlas isn't availble in the 24mm size specced on the bike.". A bit of a bummer, where I live low bb and 170 cranks is a recipe for problems, but I really like it!
Another great shootout! How would the Scott Ransom eRide 920 from last year compare against this year's top choices? The 2022 eRide 920 can be purchased for $6K and has a better Shimano drivetrain than the 2021 model.
Most important review of the year hand down! Only missing a lot of other bikes (i know. Time and money) and of course....... how would the eRansom be placed against this years contenders??? :D thx a bunch again!
We tried to include the most relevant bikes that we could get our hands on, but there’s certainly a few others we’d have liked to include if we had the capacity. Ransom eRide would still be a great bike in this years roundup, especially in terms of value.
Wild looks / sounds great, however you didn’t point out it’s not possible to change out a battery on the wild in the wild, at least you can do that with a Levo. Can you on a pivot shuttle LT?
Yes!! My favorite series! Def need a SL series and a Full Power series with / Trail/ Enduro for each if applicable. Hence you running into the Levo/Kenevo (which will happen in the SL category too) debate which has completely different linkage etc.
We’ll work on it. We’ve got a SL shootout coming later in the year and will do our best to test as many as possible, but time, budget and availability constraints prevent us from getting every bike out there. Thanks for watching!
@@TheLoamWolf Yeah of course it's understandable! Plus, since models don't change all that often (at least a couple years) you can leave off any previous models that don't have any changes but still add them to your shootout list to save some time and effort. Clearly you guys are on it! Cheers fellas!
Thanks for the reply! Pumped to see it. Maybe I’ll hold off on getting the Scott random yall loved in 22’ to see if there a better option…I’m so ready to pull the trigger don’t know if I can wait 😂
Have watched each individual review up to this finale and loved them all, great work. How would you rate the Santa Cruz Bullit amongst the 2023 line up? Be nice.. I’ve just ordered one haha!
Thank you for watching! The Bullit is still a solid bike, but others have overtaken it since it was released. We’re sure you’ll still have an absolutely fantastic time riding it though!
I just spent a large chunk of change for a Specialized Turbo Levo S-Works. Are you saying that I possibly made a mistake and should have bought the Orbea Wild FS instead?
Not necessarily, both bikes are very good and capable, it really depends on your terrain, riding style, and what you're looking for. The Wild is more "enduro" ready and the Levo is aggressive Trail, bordering on lower end of enduro. Ultimately though, if you like the Levo and have fun riding it, then no, you didn't make a mistake! haha. Enjoy the ride.
Awesome job as per usual. Currently own an alloy levo and love everything about it except the looks. Motor area is too chunky. While that may be silly I really like the aesthetics of the Timp Peak. These two seem very similar. Why would you recommend one over the other? What is your experience with support (apps, setup, warranty) and touch points (remote, screen, anything else). Is the motor on one louder than the other? Does the Shimano motor clutch still clank? I am getting tempted to get a Timp Peak but would love your input. Thanks in advance!
Unreal test guys, this has to be one of the most informative and through! I am looking to get an Orbea Wild but always fall into the inbetween sizes being 5ft10. Appreciating this is subjective but giving the amount of time you guys have had on it, could you recommend sizes?
Thank you Alex. Without knowing much about your riding style, terrain and preferences, our best recommendation would be to look at the reach number on current bikes you really like and use that as reference. Also, for what it's worth, we believe that you can go about 5mm shorter on reach due to eBike's weight to keep similar stability but make it more fun and maneuverable. Easier to pop, manual and snap around corners. Ultimately depends on if you prefer a planted, stable ride or if you are a lively and active rider who wants to move the bike a bit easier. Thanks for watching! Drew
Thank you guys, I always keep an eye out for your yearly Emtb round up. Always extremely insightful and a diverse set of views. Well done as always and I think I’ll hang onto my 2022 Trek rail a bit longer but this years looking promising!
Would love a tips and tricks or tutorial video from Robert for bigger guys who mountain bike. I am new to mountain biking (3 months now) and I am 6’3 225 and I feel cornering is really difficult for me and overall consistency in other subjects
Orbea Wild alloy vs Fezzari Timp Peak? Pricing is about the same, Fezzari gets the better spec. Does the extra 20mm of rear suspension feel like a big bike compared to the orbea?
Great reviews and recommendations! Looked like an awesome week and appreciate the full teams inputs. Now just dust off and get out to review those SLs for me!! 🙇😉
Great video and comparisons, you are putting out some of the best MTB content out there! Pivot, Levo, Wild....whats a Southern Oregon to Bend rider to choose??
We appreciate that! Thank you. It would greatly depend on each rider and their preference. Robert would likely pick the Wild, Drew and others would likely suggest the Shuttle LT. Levo is great all around but Motor issues do seem to be a real thing for many Levo owners.
seems like all these machines are relatively ideal, only difference is the amount of salt and pepper added. which ones should we avoid? it's all a matter of taste and terrain? ....
Great reviews! Always look forward to your reviews. I 29nd the Kenevo in high position along with other mods and prefer it that way. Raises BB etc and makes it very versatile! I guess I have a Kelevo 😂 Great channel!!!!
Do any of the full power motors feel better pedal over the speed limit then the others? Or do you have to goto a sl bike to get that normal pedal bike feel over the limiter?
Where was the Transition? Other than leaving out the bike I was hoping to see in the shootout you guys did a great job. I now have my radar on a Fezzari along with that Transition.
What made the Wild better than the Timp Peak? Seems like the motor and e-integration on the Wild is better. but anything else? I’m trying to decide between the two…
General geometry balance makes the Wild an easier bike to climb and attack the descents with, but the Timp Peak is still a shredder and slightly more playful.
@@TheLoamWolf Thanks. I know you haven’t ridden it and it’s crazy expensive, but any thought on how the Wild would ride in the LTD version, given that it’s 4-5lbs lighter. That would likely make it more playful.
Hopefully more people give Orbea a chance because its a great bike at a reasonable price point (especially alloy). Way too many Specialized huggers out there, I'll pick Bosch for reliability all day
@@fzr1000981 that Gen1 is still a great bike. People are being put off by anything w/a HTA over 65° or STA less than 77°, like the Gen1 Wild, Gen2 Levo or a YT Decoy when those bikes will work VERY well for 80% of the riders on the planet. I have no doubt the 2023 Wild is everything the LW Crew (and everyone else frankly) says it is. But for it to be great, and greatly appreciated, the skill set and TERRAIN have to be there too.
Hey there, friendly giants on the panel! It's quite a sight to see you towering folks reviewing these bikes. It almost feels like watching a team of NBA players doing ballet - quite impressive, yet a little unconventional. But here's a crazy idea: why not invite a fellow of more... petite stature to join your brigade? It'd certainly paint a different picture of how these two-wheelers perform for those of us who are a bit more on the lightweight side, and aren't quite reaching the ceiling with our height! Just a thought from down here below the clouds. Keep up the good work!
Haha thanks for the chuckle. While we get where you are coming from, the downside to having someone join the squad of a smaller stature, would mean that we would need to get 2 of each bike in different sizes to do it properly and fairly. Most brands may not want to send two bikes or have the availability to do so.
You're not alone, I swear every review channel are size large and up. I'd love to see more small reviewers out in the wild and how more people 5' 7 and under get along in the market in that awkward space of being between medium and small (extra small where it exists) and how/if smaller riders end up with different bike preferences due to the geo changes. Cause I've seen bike preferences and behaviors change on the other end of things when heavier riders have more mass to weight and gain traction and ability to toss huge bikes around, I can imagine similarly how some brands small would feel better or worse for some. I swear all the petite riders are in XC though 😂
Hey thank you Allan. We've been happy with it, of course like any product, it has limitations based on application and intended design. But simply put, yes we like the shock a lot.
The SCOR would be most playful, however the Levo and Timp Peak are both fairly playful too. The Wild can play, but prefers to be held wide open and attack.
Great shootout. I purchased a FLX Weapon X EMTB. I would like to see a review of that bike from you guys. Not released quite yet but they do have demo bikes down here in San Diego.
Thanks guys for the info on all the bikes - I'm looking for a new emtb and have been checking out the orbeo but as a woman i find a mullet much easier to move around/ manage. Anyone any info if mulleting the orbea is a runner? And btw be great if you could add a woman to your stable of riders/reviewers.
You’re welcome! They designed it as 29er only, and you’d compromise the geometry if you fitted a smaller back wheel, so it may not be the bike for you. We’ve got a Woman - Emma - who has recently started writing some reviews for us, so stay tuned for some of her work hitting the site soon!
We'd say all of the frames are likely to stand up to the abuse, but the built kits are where you may find you struggle with some of them. From this test, the Cannondale, and Rocky Mountain felt the most sturdy, but a good wheelset on all bikes bar perhaps the Ibis and SCOR would deliver a reassuringly stiff ride. Also the product manager who developed the Fezzari Timp Peak is like 6’6 and well over 220 lbs, so that could be worth noting.
Loam Wolf crushed it again with the eMTB Shootout. Got my Specialized Turbo Levo Comp Alloy cuz of how much you guys raved about the Levo and my stoke on the bike couldn't be higher! Keep up the great work 🤙
@@fzr1000981 Got my Levo Comp Alloy "used" off Pinkbike for $3500. I say "used" because it had 5 miles on the odometer. Its been a great bike for me. Threw on a Fox 38 and Cane Creek Kitsuma coil and it can handle all the chunk and tech I can throw at it. But the Wild looks nice too!
@@fzr1000981 It's cause a lot of them lose their warranty and a battery or motor replacement is 1k each... highly unlikely but if you do end up getting a new motor you get the warranty with it so! Not really all that bad of a deal!!
The Ibis Oso is art on wheels imo. I would buy it if they break with convention and offer a model with a motor system that has a throttle = no bashing pedals in bumpy uneven terrain.
We'll see if they will send Robert one once we ship him back to the UK. It can be tough for brands across the pond to send ebikes stateside for review.
Great revieuw! What i would like to see is reviews how the quality of the bike is when taken fully apart. Some bikes are very nice when riding but a complete nightmare when you have take it apart.. Idea mabye? I think a lot of mtbers are interested about that because most do there mantainance themselfs.
I'm interested in getting an e-bike as a work truck for my trail building. It's gotta be 27.5 rear wheel though, a big unwieldy wagon wheel would get in the way, and on an e-bike the list of advantages a 29" rear wheel has really shrinks.
Plenty of mullet wheeled options out there, though we’re still a fan of dual 29ers for the slightly increased traction and rough terrain attacking capabilities.
@@TheLoamWolf I think those "advantages" only make a real world difference if you're riding trails that go in a straight line, which would be lame. Full 29er downhill times in testing on trails with turns are not faster in anyones testing that I've seen, and if they really were advantageous in attacking rough terrain I think more than only one World Cup DH race in 2022 would have been won on a full 29er. They aren't dominating enduro either, it's a pretty even mix due to climbing being involved. But for the general public, I think there's a bit of a mass security blanket placebo effect going on. Now if you tell me you're doing big 40+ mile rides, I have no argument against that. The big wheel will definitely be more efficient and comfortable over a long distance, but downhill performance there is objectively no advantage.
Lemme know what you end up going with. I'm still convinced I want to get a mullet too but maybe also full 27 too which slims the list greatly. Levo/kenevo, Heckler/Bullit, trek rail which I think can be mulleted, and check out the Scott ransom eride which is a rare bike which can do 29, mullet, and full 27. I still need to find and try one of those sounds like a great little freeride setup. There are tons of mullet bikes out there to choose from
Beautiful back drop for the table talk, where did you film? As a 2021 Wild owner I can't wait to try out the new hotness. Thanks for the great content! One of the older shoot out videos lead me to pull the trigger on my current Wild which I absolutely love.
Thanks very much! This was Pacific City, Oregon. May recognize it from the Goonies movie. If you check the website you'll see the link to the house we rented from Kiwanda Coastal Properties. It was an awesome spot.
Nothing planned at the moment, but it’s an idea we’d love to do. Ultimately it depends on our production budgets and being able to source bikes to include in the test. We’ll do our best!
Thanks for a great video. Im right now strugge to choose between the levo comp carbon or the orbea wild h10. Same price but I don't know if the cf frame of specialized or the better shocks on orbea is the best choise.?
@@TheLoamWolf thank you for the reply. Im no big jumper. I mostly do climbs, and trail riding. Some forrest trails and muddy trails. No downhill riding with big jumps.
Thanks very much!! Greatly appreciate it. We could be under 50 but we’re in a “that battery is outdated” point so until consumers and industry decide what niche/area to land for multiple offerings etc, or u til 2025 when a new battery tech will come out to drop weight/energy ratio, we’ll likely be at a game of grams. We’re not far off though!! We’d wager that in 2025 many will be under 50lbs.

Love the series guys, great job. Luckily we get the wild in Australia, sadly just shy of 20k.
Great job again👌🏻👍🏻👊🏻✌🏻
Thank you Tommy!
Such a great channel! I was just going to skim through the video and ended up watching the entire video! Fantastic Job Guys!
Thank you Bill, glad you enjoyed it!
What EMTB would you recommend to a beginner in the mountain bike world? I recently bought the Specialized Turbo Tero 5.0, but haven't been able to ride it yet because of clavicle surgery. I want to progress in my riding to a full suspension EMTB. Thank you, John
who has the highest standards as far a not failing? Best Quality control? Actual warranty coverage and support? Thank you.
interesting to hear these guys thoughts on the new canyon 23 bike line up especially the new torque on and strive on
Always love the shootouts. Very informative and helpful with comparing bikes.
Thanks Jason, we try our best!
Love watching reviews that you guys do gives everyone pretty good insight of what they wanna buy. A few of these bikes that you reviewed I have and it makes me feel good about my purchase. Thanks guys.
Thank you for watching! We really appreciate it 🙌
Couldn’t agree more about the Fezzari Timp Peak!
It’s a ripper!
Really enjoyed this series. Great information.
Thanks for watching and glad it was entertaining and informative.
Thanks Tyler!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks guys !
You're welcome!
Thank you! And thanks for sharing about the Rocky. Good to know. Wonder if 5Dev or other smaller companies might have an offering that’ll work…
That's wack
Another great shootout! How would the Scott Ransom eRide 920 from last year compare against this year's top choices? The 2022 eRide 920 can be purchased for $6K and has a better Shimano drivetrain than the 2021 model.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed! The Ransom eRide would still stack up pretty well, especially in terms of value.
Thanks for all the work on these. Any idea when the 2024 emtb shootout will drop?
Starting from next week!! Stay tuned. We’re excited to share this one.
Great watch and some sick rides !! Would really love to see a Pole voima in the mix !!!
They opted out of the shootout, but we’ll be releasing a solo review shortly.
Drew
@@TheLoamWolf Much appreciated bud, will keep you posted and look forward to your next video 🤟🏼
Thank you guys, I always keep an eye out for your yearly Emtb round up. Always extremely insightful and a diverse set of views. Well done as always and I think I’ll hang onto my 2022 Trek rail a bit longer but this years looking promising!
Thank you for watching!
Would love a tips and tricks or tutorial video from Robert for bigger guys who mountain bike. I am new to mountain biking (3 months now) and I am 6’3 225 and I feel cornering is really difficult for me and overall consistency in other subjects
Noted!
@@TheLoamWolf let’s go!!!!
We'll try, we still need the rest of the SLs to show up!
@@TheLoamWolf The Pivot sounds like a great bike, just not sure how I feel about all the reported rattling from the Shimano motor downhill
seems like all these machines are relatively ideal, only difference is the amount of salt and pepper added. which ones should we avoid? it's all a matter of taste and terrain? ....
When I'm trying to compare bikes it helps me a lot to categorize them on charts, like compliance/pop/agility, spec/value etc from least to most.
Great reviews! Always look forward to your reviews. I 29nd the Kenevo in high position along with other mods and prefer it that way. Raises BB etc and makes it very versatile!
I guess I have a Kelevo 😂
Great channel!!!!
Haha nice thanks for sharing your setup and we appreciate the kind words.
Saw you at Fezzari today as I was picking up my bike! Keep up the good work!
Right on, enjoy the bike!
Hopefully more people give Orbea a chance because its a great bike at a reasonable price point (especially alloy). Way too many Specialized huggers out there, I'll pick Bosch for reliability all day
The Orbea is a seriously killer bike.
@@TheLoamWolf makes me wonder how the Gen 1 Wild would hold up in the shootout
I swear all the petite riders are in XC though 😂
hello and well done . May i ask some is the Fox Float X2 Performance shock, good or not thank you and keep up with good work
Hey thank you Allan. We've been happy with it, of course like any product, it has limitations based on application and intended design. But simply put, yes we like the shock a lot.
great content, thank you guys!!
which one more playfull : Timp peak vs Levo vs Orbea Wild vs Scor
The SCOR would be most playful, however the Levo and Timp Peak are both fairly playful too. The Wild can play, but prefers to be held wide open and attack.
@@TheLoamWolf thank you so much.
This shootout was amazing, thank you for all the work that went into this.
Thank you very much!
Shame since the Orbea Rise and Rallon supports mullet
What bike would you recommend for an overweight guy looking for durability.
Keep up the great work 🤙
Great to hear that Mark! Enjoy the Levo and thanks for watching!
Orbea makes a better bike for $4k less, Specialized is the BMW of mtb world (huggers galore)
@@marklopez5267 Sounds like a good deal. Used emtb lose their value faster than a kitchen appliance haha
Can you share what trails you rode near pacific city? Trailforks doesn’t have much marked in that area. Great reviews!
They are part of the network bros and hoes landscaping has been building. And, atleast for now, they are private trails.
Great job on the review, I liked the Pivot Shuttle LT for the best all around. Have you guys reviewed the Yeti 160e and the YT Decoy Core 4? Thank you
Great discussion - stellar bike picks - well done
Thank you very much Joe!
Love the OR coast! Cheers from Ashland!
So do we! Thanks for watching
Hey Robert did you think the Fezzari was more playful then the Santa Cruz Heckler from last years shootout? I'm trying to decide which one to buy.👍
Not quite, but it’s pretty close. And considerably more capable for aggressive descending!
@@TheLoamWolf Thanks brother👍
Hello guys! Appreciate this series, will consider the results. Would you mind doing a review on Radon's Slide Trail 10.0?
We'll see if they will send Robert one once we ship him back to the UK. It can be tough for brands across the pond to send ebikes stateside for review.
I own Pivot Shuttle LT team 2023, really great riding performances. If I wound change something on it? Yeah, Shimano for Bosch....
Why was the Trek Rail not in the lineup?
Great revieuw! What i would like to see is reviews how the quality of the bike is when taken fully apart. Some bikes are very nice when riding but a complete nightmare when you have take it apart.. Idea mabye? I think a lot of mtbers are interested about that because most do there mantainance themselfs.
Thanks for the suggestion and good point.
There are tons of mullet bikes out there to choose from
I do it with a Canyon CF-8....it is amazing.
Trek rail gen 4. On my list but not in shoot out?
No Trek Rail this year? That's a bummer. The new Levos look like absolute rippers though.
Great review, guys! If Jesse James and Seth Enslow ever got together and created a YT channel, it would be TLW!
Keep up the work!
Haha, thank you! Glad you enjoyed
Thanks guys loved the series, anything upcoming comparing the most affordable e-bikes available?
Nothing planned at the moment, but it’s an idea we’d love to do. Ultimately it depends on our production budgets and being able to source bikes to include in the test. We’ll do our best!
Quite a range of battery size. Seems like 630 might be outdated. How did the range assessment go?
Highly subjective but it wouldn’t be a deal breaker for us!
Thanks for a great video. Im right now strugge to choose between the levo comp carbon or the orbea wild h10. Same price but I don't know if the cf frame of specialized or the better shocks on orbea is the best choise.?
The Levo will be a more playful bike, whereas the Orbea is more capable for the gnarliest trails and most aggressive riding.
@@TheLoamWolf thank you for the reply. Im no big jumper. I mostly do climbs, and trail riding. Some forrest trails and muddy trails. No downhill riding with big jumps.
The Levo is likely to be your best option here then, it's a great ride!
@@TheLoamWolf thanks 😊
Greqt job fellas. You would think going into '23 we would see sub 50 lb bikes, but same weight same old same old. What say U everyone?
Thanks very much!! Greatly appreciate it.
We could be under 50 but we’re in a “that battery is outdated” point so until consumers and industry decide what niche/area to land for multiple offerings etc, or u til 2025 when a new battery tech will come out to drop weight/energy ratio, we’ll likely be at a game of grams. We’re not far off though!! We’d wager that in 2025 many will be under 50lbs.
Guys, I'M stuck please help!! Anyone. I'm on the fence on either buying a scott ransom eride920 and will fully get upgraded with fox factory suspension 180mm front and rear travel. Or do I get me a entry model orbea wild and fully upgrade that with better brakes and fox factory suspension. My question is what is the all around, throw anything at it bike. I love the mullet capable option on the scott. But Everyone is crazy about the orbea wild. So im stuck between choosing the 2022 winning emtb or the 2023 winning emtb. Please any input is greatly appreciate it. My riding usage consist of 70% park stuff and 30 % trail riding. My concern is i dont want to run out of travel in the orbea if i ever need the extra MM of travel. Thanks in advance!!
@The Loam Wolf I'm surprised you guys didn't mention the Cascade Long Travel link that does exist out there for the Levo which makes it something in between the standard Levo and the Kenevo (at risk of the warranty).
I hope one of these days you guys will get your hands on a Transition Repeater
And the Relay 🍻
Was hoping to see some lightweight eMTBs since my next buy will probably be a Fuel EXe or other lightweight ebike!
SL shootout coming later in the year! Stay tuned
