The problem is, AI (SD) is capable of creating MUCH more detailed images than what was shown here. The problem is not the use of AI, the problem is the horrendously bad use of AI. You wouldn't be even able to distinguish "real art" from proper AI generated images. But here you definitely can.
They could have used the AI to create the base of the video, and then tuned it to remove the imperfections. But my 2 cents is that Riot outsourced the project, the group in charge used AI to make the video, and when they gave the video to Riot, Riot didn't QA the video due to time issues and uncaring personnel.
I think it can be fun and cool as a gimmick (it did get us a hilarious 20 minute necrit video at least), but I feel like there'd need to be more of a point to using the AI. Like if you did a promotion for a robot-inspired skin line like battlecast, it could make sense to use something like this even when the resulting imagery isn't necessarily top tier since it would be thematically coherent on a meta level of sorts, but here it just feels like random cost-cutting.
@@socketbyte5348 The problem is not whether or not AI-generated images can be distinguished from human-made ones. The problem is using it *period*, given that it relies on images scraped without consent.

When they released the LAS and LAN servers, they gave us a Morgana skin called 'La Llorona' (an urban legend from Latin America). Then they proceeded to resell her as 'Ghost Bride Morgana.' I mean, they don't even care from the beginning.
I always find impressive how the multimillonair companies, like Riot, Marvel or Wizards of the Coast manage to create images that look 10 times worse and less convincing than some random guy on DeviantArt. As a person that lives in Latam and experiment this with every single entertaiment international industry, this is a clare example of "Caring for the Latam community, but without actually caring", so they did something cause they feel that should do something, but without the slightest intention to spend money or resources on it. It was always like this. I think I heard that Disney recently said that they will only dub shows that are successful in the United States. Disney. The company that could go out of business entirely for the next 30 years and still be disgustingly millionaire.
@@mrpringles6690 Yeah. Sorry. I was referring to the cases in which they tried to use AI images. Which obviously isn't fooling anyone, while there are Promp Writers capable of making images that are much harder to distinguish from real art. It's as if on top of using AI, they use a free IA Images generator. And if companies that own and produce so much money do that, what is left for us artists.
Sadly, this is a problem that have some time around us in the LATAM community, RIOT has nearly 0 interest in making good region events for their players, aside from giving icons and some stuff that is not really eyecatching, and most of us don't really expect big things, but at least something made with love for the community.
One more important thing to note: NONE of these fans gave CONSENT to be used in AI. Riot violated everyones rights in this video. @Macaulyn_97 you give consent for however they choose to use or represent your image as long as it isn't defaming you, and even then there are loop holes. Read the terms and conditions next time you buy a ticket for an event.

I’m sorry Necrit but this is the most funny fucking video you have ever made. I couldn’t stop laughing at you pointing out every single detail. This made my day. I love it!!!!!!!😂😂😂
I understand that an artist could have painstakingly gone through all of the rotoscoping work to make this hype video legitimately. But I don’t think riot deserves to be bashed for paying a probably vfx artist, trying out some new tech like stable diffusion, to make a cinematic with less effort. Work smarter not harder. Sure the tech isn’t quite there yet. But it’s a cool concept for a hype video.
Also calling out anime rock paper scissors isn’t fair. The vfx artists at corridor digital put a lot of effort into perfecting the system that turned their footage into animation. This league video clearly didn’t have the same effort put into it. But conceptually could have been cool.
riot: so we noticed that Briar leaked and you guys were complaining about how every champion has a pretty face, and that there arent anymore true monsters in the league universe. so we made this monstrosity...
This is peak fucking comedy. I don't need more sensationalism, I need more of Necrit casually breaking down the worst and weirdest things Riot is currently doing. No hype, no anger, just "hmm, that's interesting, I wonder where that man's eyes went"
The way this AI Works is That he "Sees* an image, deconstruct it and reconstruct it from libraries of images. The way all the people are drawn Makes me believe they used the card Game "Legends of runeterra" as library for the characters, more Than the skin of the actual Game (especially nidalee and star Guardian lux). And since they didnt est the program on more quality shot Makes me believe they were on a short schedule and way too short budget to use a pro software.
Dude, Necrit, my man. Truthfully, I don't laugh out loud at funny stuff when I'm alone in my office, maybe some heh-heh but that was it, for the past 30 years. Today, I freaking fell off the chair, THRICE !!
You know Necrit, there are a lot of games and communities that would *actually* appreciate your hard work, and the ones of other content creators. *Because it's obvious Rito doesn't care about you, mate.*
Just for your daily dosage of geography Necrit, the two cities of the video are Buenos Aires, capital city of Argentina and Bogotá, capital City of Colombia. And this video does not surprise us as Latin American players anymore, Riot has never cared the slightest about our region, this is just the confirmation of how much they care after 10 years.
As someone who lives in LAS, I can tell you, that's not AI, that's just the everyday horrors we face as reality shifts between normal and nightmarish every few seconds.
my guess is that this is more of a deadline issue than a budget issue, it's easy for a company to underestimate how long it takes to make a fully animated video so they sometimes end up hiring people way too late, giving them a tiny fraction of the time they actually need. that would also be a good explanation of why they used ai, it's way faster.
Its like they asked AI 'What should Riot do as a company to make money', recorded the list, and used this year as an experiment to see how we would react as a community to their laziness.
It really pisses me off that they do stuff like this to save on their budget while also releasing 200$ skins. Riot should just make a couple of skin lines that each skin line has different proceeds that it goes towards, like for example they could have a skin line that all the money made from it goes towards their budget for new skins, one for cinematics, etc. etc. They would be the most popular line of skins in the game because people would want to spend money on the game if they knew it was going back into the game and exactly how.
future is looking great! big companies need AI to create illustrations because they don't want to hire artists and games need AI to run smoothly because the developers don't want to better it's performance themselves.
8:28 you dont even had to notice Galio. That was litetally the hardest thing to notice. All the HUDS and item icon are extremly outdated and with a lot more focus
It makes me sad to see Riot using AI, which is very known for their amazing art, because not only it shows that they're more than okay with getting rid of artists but also because AI actively steals from artists, and uses that stolen material in it's image generation. If any AI leeches say that it doesn't do that, they're lying, and here's why: - AI needs images to be fed into it to be trained, which then the AI copies and adds that copy to it's database for later use, At most they might remove the original image, but the copied stolen image will forever be inside the database. Being used for whatever generation it's relevant at. Everything it generates comes from an existing artwork, actively using stolen material for that.
When you get down to it, everyone ‘steals’ artwork by adding it into their database for inspiration of their next work. Has there ever been an artist that has made a work consisting of a jumping spider riding a unicycle on top of an asteroid? Most likely not, but AI will do that regardless. You should look into how the AIs operate.
@@darthargus7216 Yes, humans and machines are fundamentally different, AI doesn't take inspiration, interpret or learn, or anything a person does to learn from pieces, they can only copy what they're fed, everything it generates comes from someone else.
if they did a post "Hey guys, the league for latin america will start soon, how about you show how much you love where you live and league and draw some cities with league's cities themes and the best ones will be featured in the trails and actual tournament" see, no need to pay much, filter things and select the best ones, everyone will feel part of it, even if their art is not selected, everyone wins
It's very key to remember that the AI being bad isn't the problem, if it turned out good it'd be even worse. The overarching issue almost everyone seems to be missing with this change in high-crust production is the elimination of artistic integrity, artist jobs and human meaning. AI used in this format to render human input as simply a comparative form when it comes output of human expression, is not only a step in the wrong direction, but the first noticeable turn on the path of global society artistic human life towards the darkest possible future. This video should not have been condemned because it does not look good, it should be condemned for the insult and corporate greed motivated action it is.

@@piorism but artists also scrape ideas and knowledge from images created by other artists without consent, so what's your point...?
In the Bard "gameplay" you can see that his boots aren't regular boots... They have enchantments (homeguards to be precise)... that's season 3-5(5 because of Bard's release date)!! I feel old
That means there's a very good chance that they simply took a very old gameplay video from someone and slapped it on.
And you can see galio pre-rework in the minimap!
@@Dragonesa_Kel I had written that too but then Necrit also pointed it out and I deleted it 😅
That's the "edit"
So a 200 dollar skin, a tech demo and AI art. What next? They ran out of money for their projects so they're resorting to NFTs?
Dont even say it riot may be reeding this
U know, even without saying this...Riot may as well have been doing NFTs despite it being clearly as dead as shit in secret.
the $1B budget went *directly* to NFTs
having some of the best artists in the industry at your disposal and choosing to just spit in their faces with this. sigh.
Fake: Riot got the biggest budget from Tencent because they wanted to make the game better
Reality: "Hey Tencent, you think last video was bad? Bet 1B$ we can make this one even worse"

No no no. The Bard part seems accurate. There are chimes to

Dang riot must really be putting their millions of dollars budget into the gameplay team
Surely
When they released the LAS and LAN servers, they gave us a Morgana skin called 'La Llorona' (an urban legend from Latin America). Then they proceeded to resell her as 'Ghost Bride Morgana.' I mean, they don't even care from the beginning.
Gangplank's special forces skin was supposed to be a Brazil exclusive skin based on BOPE, an infamous police task force. Same with Iara Nami.
Disney. The company that could go out of business entirely for the next 30 years and still be disgustingly millionaire.
good art needs time. Especially with Marvel movies you often hear about last minute changes
The fact that Riot uploaded this, shows how much they care for their Latin American audience

If i saw myself turned into the void on this i would sue sue sue

The way this AI Works is That he "Sees* an image, deconstruct it and reconstruct it from libraries of images. The way all the people are drawn Makes me believe they used the card Game "Legends of runeterra" as library for the characters, more Than the skin of the actual Game (especially nidalee and star Guardian lux).

that face on thumbnail reminded me of an animation showing what schlatt did in '99
Riot truely an AI generated greedy company.
Thanks for all the laughs, I really enjoyed it. Let me tell you, this is one is strangely enough your best video.
my guess is that this is more of a deadline issue than a budget issue, it's easy for a company to underestimate how long it takes to make a fully animated video so they sometimes end up hiring people way too late, giving them a tiny fraction of the time they actually need. that would also be a good explanation of why they used ai, it's way faster.
Another thing I noticed, the Mobi boots that Bard has, also has an enchantment (Homeguard) on them which were removed back in season 5.
Its like they asked AI 'What should Riot do as a company to make money', recorded the list, and used this year as an experiment to see how we would react as a community to their laziness.
Remember when Riot said that League wouldn't suffer from them branching out to other genres?
Yeah I too didn't believe that.
21:40 is a corporate mundo moment
Riot clearly needs more money from us to avoid things like this in the future.
Riot literally could ask independent animators to animate hype moments and help them- but AI it is. LMAO.
I'm always surprised that after all this time, I can still be disappointed in Riot.

If any AI leeches say that it doesn't do that, they're lying, and here's why:
- AI needs images to be fed into it to be trained, which then the AI copies and adds that copy to it's database for later use, At most they might remove the original image, but the copied stolen image will forever be inside the database. Being used for whatever generation it's relevant at. Everything it generates comes from an existing artwork, actively using stolen material for that.
and were is that different from a human learning?
When you get down to it, everyone ‘steals’ artwork by adding it into their database for inspiration of their next work. Has there ever been an artist that has made a work consisting of a jumping spider riding a unicycle on top of an asteroid? Most likely not, but AI will do that regardless. You should look into how the AIs operate.
Real artists also train on someone else's art, don't see anyone crying about that.
@@darthargus7216 Yes, humans and machines are fundamentally different, AI doesn't take inspiration, interpret or learn, or anything a person does to learn from pieces, they can only copy what they're fed, everything it generates comes from someone else.
if they did a post
"Hey guys, the league for latin america will start soon, how about you show how much you love where you live and league and draw some cities with league's cities themes and the best ones will be featured in the trails and actual tournament"
see, no need to pay much, filter things and select the best ones, everyone will feel part of it, even if their art is not selected, everyone wins
13:47 : Forgot about Zombie Brand ?
For every good thing Rito Games does for League there are 10 times more horrific decisions being made without consulting the community.
That first gameplay picture also has the old homeguard boots upgrade, which was removed somewhere in november 2015.
