I applaud you guys for your honesty and be willing to share a difficult conversation of to who to care for your child when you're gone...... My mother is the guardian of her sister that has down syndrome, And my mother had already set up in her Will that if something was to happen to her sister (my aaunt) that both myself and my sister will would become co-guardians of our aunt.... My mother did not want my aunt to end up in a group home, But this is because my mother still had the image of group homes of the 70's & '80s which was a horrible place for people with special needs. I have the fortunate experience of managing a group home for over 7 years and things have changed in the health care field with people with special needs and they are living productive lives... Me working in the healthcare field and showing my mother that they are good people that take care of people's loved ones have made her become comfortable with one day the possibility of her sister living in one..

Coming to terms with one's own mortality is awful and gut wrenching to say the least...i can see it in both of your faces when you speak of it....more so for Craig's future and not the certainty of death that we all will endure. As a Father i feel that in my soul, not to mention being 52 and having been through that "mid-life" crisis area...where you think of all of this! I pray for your Family!

You guys are amazing parents! Thank you for sharing your experiences with us! I work in an elementary school autism classroom K-5, & one of my biggest worries is helping these kiddos prepare, not only for middle & high school, but the lives they'll live after schooling is over, especially for the ones who don't have nearly as solid a foundation as the one you're so wonderfully providing for Craig. I never take for granted the parents, such as yourselves, who are as caring & involved in their child's growth in life. The world needs more parents like you.

I am loving these sit down chats and it's really cool that Joe sat in and shared his experiences as well. It's great to see that you all support one another as a team where Craig's care is concerned. Stephanie is a wonderful sister and it shows how beautiful her heart is that she was determined to be his caretaker from such an early age. It's nice listening to how you're all aware of the way that he thinks and don't feel annoyed or upset that he doesn't hold a door open, for example. I imagine that you try to keep him from watching certain movies. Has there ever been a show or movie that Craig wanted to watch but you were reluctant to allow him to see? Thank you so much Nancy, I do enjoy your wealth of information and your wonderful energy. I think yt is definitely what you were destined to do.❤

I wasn't surprised at all when you said that Craig would be with Stephanie. The way she lights up around him is so sweet and genuine. And while she and Craig are roughly the same age, there are two little ladies that I'm sure will grow up being very close to their uncle. If need be, there might even be another generation in the wings. Certainly one that would be a real part of his life.

I can see his tunnel vision in the way he walks. Craig is determined and set on his path. His mind is set on getting from a to b as soon as he can, probably to avoid interference from other pedestrians etc. I'm sure people and things can deter his passage and he's set on getting through that part as quickly as he can.

Some time ago, I think it was one of our therapists who said "When you've met one child with Autism, you've met one child." The number of similarities between Craig and our son is stunning. They share a lot of the same mannerisms, speech patterns, likes and dislikes. But there are some distinct differences. We too think about care after we pass. Our son has two wonderful brothers but I want those two to have their own lives as long as we can make it happen.

I think Craig could learn to drive, however, as you mentioned he wouldn’t be able to adapt to driving on the road with traffic, weather, etc…You probably could teach Craig a multitude of highly technical skills, but if it didn’t fit exactly as he learned, he likely couldn’t adapt rapidly enough…I have a good friend that has a son about Craig’s age that’s also high functioning. He works, but cannot live by himself safely, drive, etc…However, he lives at home in a loving family and is very happy. A couple of questions… Has Craig tried Chinese food yet? Has he learned to swim? I’m glad to see Craig is living his best life with family:-)

Its embarrassing and i'm not sure what i'll do when my parents pass. But i know it will all work out, it does get lonely! especially because my aspergers makes me super awkward in social situations, so its hard to meet new friends. Craig seems to have had a great “Adventure” day! Nancy, Tony’s sister also wants to bring him into her house if we pass. And if it’s necessary beyound that, Our grandaughters will take care of him. It’s always been our biggest fear of who will take care of him and now we are happy!

Myself, I like my nails on the longer end of the spectrum. I'm not a fan of short nails for myself. One of these days I'd like to get a manicure. 💅 I've had professional pedicures before (always having feet issues especially with calluses) but other than putting a bit of polish on I've never had a pro before.

I do not know if you will read this, but I just want to thank you for these videos, my 10 year old daughter has fragile x, which causes a delay in her skills and behavior, and we have to constantly monitor her actions and everyday activities she is not able to do most things other kids her age do, and she shows a lack of emotions in times of hardships as well as everyday life, she has breakdowns and at times she rolls her eyes back and waves her arms, and she has issues with touching such as hugging or holding her hand, as a father it is hard for me sometimes because i fear what the outside world and current living situation will do to her if something was to happen to me. Your videos give me a peace and understanding of what it is to have a child in my life who has special needs.
