    Maybe you can put some in a glass container so you can see the oil floating. Thanks for your time and the video.

    Would there be any visual clues as to the amount of oil coming out? Or if I’m my case I drain your a bucket would the water look a slightly different color or at the least would I notice a different viscosity of the overflow water. I guess ultimately I’m just trying to ensure that I’d be doing the skimming effectively and was looking for any indicators of effectiveness in real time prior to firing up the boiler again.

      I do this service often, and always use a bucket... so I can visualize the product of my labor and can show the customer the value of their dollar. in a steam system it's referred as a top blow down. on larger boilers i have used suction to skim the surface...

      I thought a “blowdown” involves closing a king valve on the main and a valve on the return. Then building high pressure in boiler (~10psi) and opening the drain valve to blow out the crud.

    Guys worried about the hot water not the fact he’s throwing oil down the sanitary drain system lol
