Ghost Train: Barnstaple to Taunton (Lost Devon & Somerset Railway Animation)

- A look at the lost Devon & Somerset Railway line linking Barnstaple with Taunton! It was opened in stages between 1871 and 1873 and closed in 1966. It served a mostly rural area although it carried some through services from east of Taunton to the seaside resort of Ilfracombe. From 1988 onwards the route of the line west of South Molton was redeveloped to form the part of the North Devon Link Road.

Again an absolutely brilliant train ride into the past.
I am in awe how you produce these. Just brilliant. You have no idea how much pleasure they give.
Watching these videos makes me very sad, pulling out the railway is like pulling out a tooth, painful and lost forever
Fantastic, comparing the old and new maps, great to see the fields and woods have hardly changed in my beautiful home county of Devon
What an absolutely brilliant piece of work. Thank you.
Fantastic work. I grew up in the Morebath/Venn Cross area, and remember regularly passing the viaduct pillars at ~20mins in my parents' car, wondering what the old railway line was like.
Many thanks for this. Excellent, as always.
Fantastic video! Just found your channel and love this. My uncle used to work in the signal box at Morebath and my great uncle was the station master at Milverton so fantastic to see it as it was.
What a wonderful film. Beautifully crafted and presented. Couldnt take my eyes off it. Thank you so much.
Thanks Malcom! Got plenty of lost lines like it on the channel - feel free to subscribe! 🚂 😁
Living in Wiveliscombe, this was a joy to follow.

(Whaley bridge to cromford
Well done,amazing job!
I wondered why I wasn't enjoying this video as much as usual. I realised that I couldn't read the print on the maps. Is it just the premiere going out at 360p, as opposed to the usual 1080p?
Try it in a little while - I think youtube publishes before its finished processing. It is 1080p.
@@ghosttrainlostrailways Thank you.
Since I discovered your videos, I've been binge-watching the railway ones, and some of the others.
