Transformers: Devastation is an upcoming action beat 'em up video game based on the Transformers franchise developed by PlatinumGames and published by Activision. It is set to be released on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One
Transformers: Devastation is an action game in a similar vein to PlatinumGames' other titles. Players will be able to control one of five Autobots: Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Sideswipe, Wheeljack, and Grimlock as they battle against Decepticon forces in large 3D environments. Gameplay will include fast paced combos as well as the ability to switch between Vehicle and Robot mode.[2]
The game is part of the Transformers: Generations line, though its visual design is most strongly inspired by the original The Transformers TV series. The game's story is written by former Transformers comic writer/editor Andy Schmidt, and several voice actors from the original show, including Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime), Dan Gilvezan (Bumblebee), Michael Bell (Sideswipe), Gregg Berger (Grimlock) and Frank Welker (Megatron, Soundwave), reprise their respective voice roles.
Character skins based on Nemesis Prime, Red Alert, and Goldfire, along with three additional weapons, were offered as pre-order incentives

Anyone else notice how the way optimus delivers the last blow to megatron is the same way he did it in the original G1 movie? I thought that was a pretty neat throwback
I like how the final struggle with Prime and Megatron, with Prime head butting Megatron, was a reference to Rising's final boss fight.

When I was watching the 80's show as a kid, I always thought it would have been better if Megatron was a tank, in fact, they did make him one in Generation 2.
I don't know about everyone else, but I can deal with Megatron being a tank. Yes, I'm fully aware that Megatron originally transformed into a Walther P-38 pistol, but I feel that him being a tank makes for a more menacing sight and a more sensible transformation. Before anyone decides to jump on my back and spout some silly bullshit like claiming that I have no business being a Transformers fan, allow me to say in the interest of full disclosure that my earliest memories of the Transformers franchise came from the original cartoon's third season, as I was born shortly before the animated film came out (despite what my username might imply). My older brother collected the toys - which included the P-38 Megatron, until some asshole at his school stole it from him - and he would join me in watching re-runs of the first two seasons on TV while I was growing up. I currently own the original cartoon on DVD, as well as Japanese reissues of some of the classic toys, including P-38 Megatron.
Aside from taking visual cues from the G1 cartoon, this game also features elements from the current Combiner Wars toyline (such as the designs of Megatron's tank form and Motormaster's truck form, to give a couple of examples). Oh, and that's not a sound-alike voicing Megatron. That's the original actor, Frank Welker himself. He may not sound quite the same as he did during the days of the original cartoon, but I wonder how many of you would not have at least some difficulty trying to maintain a voice like that of G1 Megatron when you've been around for as long as Frank has.
At least some people here have some sense.

+Impulse Kid Entertainment To be perfectly honest, while I love the G1 series, despite how obviously goofy it was, I actually prefer Welker's current take on Megatron as opposed to the very original since back then he sounded like he was made to overact a lot. His modern iteration sounds genuinely more menacing and even scary. I mean just listen to him in Transformers: Prime with the updated design and the sharp teeth (why robots that feed on what's basically a form of liquid fuel would need teeth, but I digress).
Am I the only one who thinks that devastation Megatron is just a much better version of G1 Megatron?

Sorry for the delay, but yeah, still though the toy were his ingame design is the Combiner Wars line and you can still give him a fan mode "Gun mode".
This game had a mix of the different toy lines dating back to the Classics line (See Bumblebee's ingame and the Classics toy) Masterpiece and the above mentioned Combiner Wars. Great game and I wish it had a sequel that had the other subsequent toy designs.

As much as I love G1 faithfulness, I do have to agree that Megatron is a tank here. Frankly, turning into Starscream's handgun just isn't very useful, which is why Megatron never was a gun again, though Prime was always a truck.

...You know, there's something I don't get about the comments. Yes, Megatron could turn into a gun in the old show, but doesn't him turning into a tank, which does a lot more damage than a gun, make him a bit more awesome here? I mean, what would win in a fight between a gun and a tank sounds like a no-brainer.
The music on the space fight fits perfectly with this gameplay
The one thing I never forget in this final Boss battle is end the fight at the beginning of the 2nd playthrough of the song

I know some people are angry that Megatron is not a gun,but a tank. I grew up in the 80's watching the cartoon and although he is not a gun in this game it makes better sense for him to be a tank.Not because it is PC I hate that stuff.Imagine him fighting OP at the very end as a gun,he wouldn't stand a chance. The only way is that in the final battle a decepticon would have hold him,perhaps Devestator.However it wouldn't be a great one-on-one fight against Optimus.

But I did like the DLC Weapons including Megatron’s Fusion Cannon from DotM “You didn’t betray me. You betrayed yourself.” The Dark Star Saber, Forge of Soilus Prime. Skins like Sideswipe as Red Alert, Bumblebee as his future-self “Goldfire” and Optimus as his Evil Twin Nemesis Prime. I would’ve liked Weaponry from the other the Minicon Weapons of the Star Saber, Skyboom Shield, Requiem Blaster. Those other missions are tough. But the Enhancement Chips at maximum potential!

Frankly it was just so dumb that Megatron turned into a gun. Like, his arm cannon in robot mode was much more powerful than his _entire altmode,_ not to mention that he needs another Decepticon to wield him in battle. Not a smart choice for the big bad boss of the 'cons (especially if it's STARSCREAM of all people holding him in battle) 😂
To anyone who hasnt realized yet, this is indeed G1, but its also the point of divergence between the original cartoon and the IDW comics continuity, specifically the recent combiner wars comics, which currently have figures being made, what you seen on screen was optimus maximus, optimus combined with four other autobots. It also explains Megatron being a tank, much to peoples anger.
I would disagree with people who say tank modes better. I prefer jet mode because it makes sense. Megatron in g1 was a decepticon leader who turned into a gun but was also able to fly. See him turning jet mode actually makes more sense because then it keeps that g1 part of him there

I own both those games, they're great but the design of the Transformers themselves in that game pales in comparison the design of this. That being said, of course this won't be as good as those games but it still looks fun. War and Fall will be hard to beat story wise and gameplay.

This game will be overall great. However, the icing on the cake would've been if Megatron would transform into the P38 and not a tank. Hell, at least they could've made him transform into a cannon like he did when he became Galvatron!

I feel like this game is sort of an alternate version to Transformers the movie.
It is a prequel, according to the creators. Though it also carries some elements from the IDW comics, specifically the Combiner Wars arc.

Liam O'Donnell You mean the Combiner Wars specifically (since Menasor looks like his Combiner Wars self, and Optimus and Prowl's combined form is canon to the game). I read the IDW comics, and I don't exactly see how this would fit properly. Last I check if I'm not mistaken, Megatron is now working for the Autobots (yes as crazy as that sounds), Soundwave has lost all faith in the Decepticon cause, Starscream is currently ruling Cybertron, the Autobots (and Decepticons obviously) are now deviants of planet Earth, Sunstreaker is dead, etc. It looks more like a cross continuity to me.
possible sequel at the end for Nova Prime as the new villain? You know my guess is when he went evil, it might have to do with Unicron. Hope to buy this game later on for ps3 and would love to see Platinum make a another g1 game of this, still waiting for High Moon studios to make the third Cybertron game after that whole cliffhanger at the end there, they need to go for ps4!

I knew what was the cause that corrupted him to evil. Unicron. While in Planet Mode he provided the crew of the Proudstar with supplies with the foul influence of Dark Energon. Only one was unaffected set the ship to crash into New York when the Cyberforming Protocols initiated by the unaffected Survivor who’s name escapes me was in the 1980’s Movie who escaped from Unicron destruction of Lithone and was later fed to the Sharkticon’s.
I wonder why they couldn’t get the original blasts sounds from the G1 cartoon?

I played this game when I was...ummm..7? Yeah. I also used to watch the transformers series. For me I wonder why Megatron wasn't hard. The hardest for me was shockwave. One thing that really upset me was the "TANK"😤. My favorite character was sideswipe. I'd always use him a thousand times. Even when it was total madness when they got to their base. The sword was my favorite weapon similar use with sideswipe. This game is really PERFECT. You gotta play this. NO NO WAIT..

Well it be kinda dumb for a small pistol to take on a truck. Sure they could have just done away with the battle part, but i wouldn't personally see it as epic, especially since the both transform and ram into each other in the first phase

Also, small detail, but Megatron's model doesn't have the tip of the barrel for his pistol. So technically this game is not G1, but an alternate universe similar to G1.
Who's the asshole that decided to turn Megatron from a gun to a tank? I don't care what some people may think. If this a recreation of the 80's cartoon series, then he needs to be a P38 gun. This is a deal breaker for me.

+reaperjesse1210 Simple. Hasbro will not license G1 transformers with Megatron as a gun. The developers of the game did the best they could having Megatron look correct in robot form. Though, Megatron as a gun is not going to happen. Thank PC culture for that one.

+reaperjesse1210 Megatron's gun is realistic looking. If you point a G1 version at a cop without the orange cap, watch the cop's reaction - it'll be swift and intense.. On the other hand, Shockwave's is easily discernible from a real weapon.. That's why Megatron's gun mode in G1 got in so much hot water - too realistic looking.
I'm not defending Hasbro here. However, I get why they did it. A kid points a G1 Megatron at a cop and gets shot or some criminal taking the decepticon stickers off and trying to rob a store with it. Megatron in G1 gun mode is realistic enough that those scenarios could happen. Hasbro doesn't want to get sued or have the transformers brand damaged by people's poor choices. Activision did the best they could under the circumstance.
Overall, Devastation was a win for me. It so far is a fun ride. That's what I wanted out of it. My reaction was WTF to Megatron as a tank too. Once I read the history of his G1 gun mode, then I got it.It's a Hasbro decision right from the legal team. Can't fault them though, would you want to see the Transformers brand blamed for gun violence? With a realistic looking Megatron activists would be hammering on Hasbro.
Sad to say, best choice in the modern era.

this game is fucking sick, it has singlehandedly done what a decade has destroyed: Made Transformers actually seem cool. Micheal Bay was the anti-spiral and Platinum broke that Outer Heaven.

I wish I could turn back the clock and wait till this game was in the bargain bin before purchasing. This is such a disappointment. Repetitive button mashing bullshit with no reward other than upgrading your shitty weapons and exp.

I love how the voice direction is so bad that even Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, among the best and most respected in the industry, sound fake and phoned-in.
I love the shitty generic speed metal music that only fits the game because everything else about it is a shounen anime with Transformers models hacked in.
I love how the vehicle modes just flash tween around the screen spinning around on fire and performing Flash Kicks and don't behave anything like vehicles, they're more like 3D fighter maker animations.
I love how Optimus ninja wall runs up the flying bugs and Megatron just power jumps up with him and they perform a Super Saiyan fight in space, except none of their animations change, they just have bad particle effects on their feet to look vaguely like they're flying.
I love how Optimus suddenly runs out of Rings and falls down to Earth and calmly talks the entire time.
I love how they made a robot balls joke for absolutely no reason.
This game manages to not be good enough for G1.

2) They sound fine. The trick is that they're imitating their performance in the G1 show -- you know, before they were much older men?
3) So you don't like the music or artstyle. That's cool, but also completely subjective.
4) Again, this is meant to follow the G1 cartoon. Cheesy nonsense is its bread and butter, no matter how deep the story got.
5) They're VEHICLE modes, this is a beat-'em-up. The fact they're actually incorporated into active combat at all is pretty cool.
In conclusion, sir, it occurs to me you simply do not like fun or missed the point of this game.
