One of the better, more understandable explanations for newbies. Didn’t think I’d ever wrap my head around this topic.
🤘🤘🤘
I can't tell you how many times I've tried to figure out what was so great about the circle of fifths. Your video here made me FINALLY see the usefulness of it! Thank you very much! You earned a subscriber today!
Thank you, we appreciate that! And really glad to hear this helped! We also now have a course called Metal Music Theory if you're interested in diving deeper: metalmastermind.com/metal-music-theory/
The same for me. Now it makes sense.
That was the simplest, easiest, rundown on how to use the circle I've heard yet. Thank you, this is really helping my own music. Hey, how about a down and dirty on how to write a hook?
We'll definitely be doing something like that soon!
Exactly, That's what I was thinking lol. Most people act like they're teaching method is easy to learn yet, it just sounds like gibberish to me lol. This is perfect for me. I even bookmarked this video so I can come back to it whenever I want. I'm a metalhead/musician so this is great!
I have seen many videos on Circle 5th,But I finally Got It From This Video.
Thank You Sir,Love from India 🇮🇳🙏
Awesome to hear this helped! We also have a metal guitar course with new riffs in different keys if that's something you're interested in: metalmastermind.com/metal-riff-master/
MY GOD A lot clicked in my head with your explanation.. you're the fucking man
Dude, so great to hear that! I never understood this stuff either!
You made it simple enough for me to understand, finally I can use this tool. Thank you
Awesome to hear that! 🤘
I play bass and just got into a band that's not metal, but a harder type of blues rock. All the songs are originals and heavier than the typical 80s and classic rock I've been playing. I have watched two videos on your channel and you have helped me so much. I have a great grasp of the circle of 5ths and how to pick notes for my bass runs.
Awesome and glad this helped! We have have a bass course taught by Rich Gray (of Annihilator and Aeon Zen). It's metal, but concepts can be applied across all sub genres of rock and metal: metalmastermind.com/metal-bass-master/
I fell in love with C#m when I learned 18 and Life when I was a kid.
Such a killer song to play!
I couldn't remember when was the last time i watch a video of circle of fifths.
Just like other opinion this video makes it more simpler.
Yeah man we did our best to simplify 🤘

3:11 - It's the power of love!
🤘
Best video I've seen explaining the circle of 5ths
Awesome to hear that! We also have a course on theory that cofounder Ken Candelas teaches if that’s something you’re interested in: metalmastermind.com/metal-music-theory/
Excellent explanation. I've seen it in a book many times but only understood it with the major keys and corresponding note to each chord. Loved how you demonstrated how they work together.
So glad this helped!!!
It’s worth mentioning that A Minor for example IS C Major. They’re the same notes. Both scale and chord. Same thing, just starting on a different note. So play a C major scale, then play C major at the position three frets down but start on an A. Now you’re playing A minor. So just like a g# IS an Ab, a C Major IS an A minor. It’s all about perspective.
Note that the circle of fifths lines up with your guitar strings…but at all frets. For example, fret your low string at the fifth fret for an A note. Now find your nearest d#. Instead of counting up from somewhere, look at the circle of fifths. Next pie slice from A is D. Next string after a is D. Up one fret for d#.
Great info here, thank you for this!
Sorry I've been away, my wife and I had our son a couple months back and have been super busy. I'll be binge watching what I've missed on both channels. Love all of your content bro.👍
Dude, congrats!!! And thank you for the support!!
The first Quarter of the Circle is „Nothing else matters“!
🤣 🤘 Love it!
Thank you for this video dude. It’s really helped me understand how the circle of fifths works! Cheers from the uk!
Glad this helped! We also have a metal guitar course that has riffs in different keys here: metalmastermind.com/metal-riff-master/
Finally! Now it makes sense.
🤘🙏
Great stuff - really helpful - thanks!

Awesome to hear this!
Mr. Stallworth Thanks for Amazing guitar lesson ! ⚡💀⚡ 🤘👏
Would You please 🙏 do (or make a part of) some video explaining how to make cool ❄ black metal ❄ riffs with trim picking technique and the notes that will most likely to sound dark enough 😈
You're welcome dude! That's a great idea for a near future video!
Absolutely awesome lesson as usual. 💪🏻👊🏻🤘🏻🎸
Dude, we're so glad this helps!
Thank you!
🤘
Great video! Helped me big time!
Awesome to hear that!
Good to see you interpret theory into playing….wether you like it or not, everyone who plays guitar is using theory… hopefully after this video many will look at theory not as the enemy but as a very helpful tool….
Heard some metallica round the 6.50 mark 😬😬🤘🏻
Exactly! We learned theory by default, and I hope this video simplifies it and makes it a little easier to understand!
Well explained. Very helpfull thanks
Awesome to hear that! 🤘
Thank you for this! Now I finally get it 🤘
Awesome, we're glad this helped!
love c#m my fav chord
🤘
Thank you once again Jason! Now it makes sense 🙌🤘🤘🤘
🙏🤘
Great stuff! I always thought of it as 1) playing with the guitar, 2) playing underneath the guitar, and 3) playing around the guitar.
🤘
You should make another one about how you can use the circle to solo in Key.
🤘
I loved this approach thank you so much!!!
Glad this helped!
Ken is the master of music theory and he has a complete course if you're interested in taking it further: metalmastermind.com/metal-music-theory/
You are a great person thanks so much
🙏 🤘
Great Stuff Jason, you're an awesome instructor 👍🤘

Dude, your a hero!
Glad to hear this helped!
Nice breakdown, easy to digest...
Thank you, that's what we were going for!
This really simplified a lot .
Glad this helped!
Great lesson from a great teacher. I know all this stuff but you make it real. Thanks.
Thank you, and we really hope that this helps simplify it to those who have a tough time with it!
Love the energy and simplistic delivery. Knowledge is power and my knowledge has now increased. Thank you!
🙏🤘
Pretty cool
🤘🏻
Great video. I have been spending some time trying to figure out this circle lately.
Glad to hear this helps!

Thank you and I'm really glad this helped!
We also have a complete songwriting course if that's something you're interested in: metalmastermind.com/metal-songwriters-forge/
@@metalmastermind Definetely I am and going to purchase once have some holidays... But have rhe current studies in engineering domain to do... Maybe, this is just a request do some stuff on syncopation, accents, odd time signature changes and more on Death riffing. I am so in love in this area... After your videos I come to conclusion that theory is not a must but helps a lot...
Me being a absolute beginer this explanation was great. Thank you very much. Gretings from Portugal, and as you say keep it metal.
Awesome to hear this brother!
Really enjoyed that. Thanks Jason. It really helped understanding the circle of fifths.
It's a very neat way to connect the dots! I was always afraid of stuff like this until I dove in a little
There's a TON more uses, I'll be posting a new vid on my channel
Why the fuck only 3k subs, this channel deserves 300k at least
We're growing!! And thank you 🤘
@@metalmastermind all hails to you sir
💥 this channel seriously deserves much more subs!..🔥👏 Wow💣 and the way of teaching all this material is not boring at all... it's METAL! 🤘🤘🏴☠️⚡ much Respect
Edit: 8:32 Amazing song! 13:39 and that one too!
Thank you, we appreciate that!! Also, check out our courses for metal musicians here: metalmastermind.com/courses/
Great t-shirt 💪🤘
Love some Arch Enemy!!!
I love this video
Thank you, really glad this helps!!
@@metalmastermind it does
Nice explanation. As a bass player, self taught no theory kind of player.
But i alwatlys remember anti clock wise is fourths and clockwise is fifths. No idea what that means though! Ha
Thanks only just found your channel. Helpful stuff
Awesome and yeah, it's great to come up with simple ways to understand this stuff. BTW, just released a similar video on modes: ua-cam.com/video/gA8r_datOHY/v-deo.html
U go up by fifths , c no sharps . 5 steps up to g. First sharp f sharp. Another 5 steps d. F sharp and c sharp. Just keep moving up until u get to the flats. B e a d. Then the last 3 flats are the first 3 sharps flipped backwards. Just takes repetition to learn but is very important for musicians to know this. Great lesson Jason!!!
Thank you!
4:39 - Paradise city.
🤘
Got it to 1k Likes! Thanks for the info man. You're the best yt guitar teacher
We appreciate that! 🙏🤘
Simplified for the guy who doesn't know theory, thank you and keep up the awesome work!
Awesome to hear that...Yeah, I never dove deep into theory (Jason here) but learning the basics can really help with the songwriting process, especially this particular method!
@Metal Mastermind lol that's my name too. To clarify, I'm not a music theory guy.....so thank you for making this easier to comprehend.
Great video, love your channels. One correction though - when going left, its the 4th, not fifth... Keep up the good workm
Thank you 🤘
Ken is our music theory expert and he recently put out a course here: metalmastermind.com/metal-music-theory/
Cool T shirt!! \m/ Moving from outer circle to inner is called moving to the relative minor. Cmaj to Am makes Am the relative minor. And doing the reverse makes C, Am's relative major. The cool thing is You can play the notes in any relative minor chord over it's relative major counterpart and it will sound awesome.. IE: Play notes from an Am scale over a C maj chord and it's magic . And notes from the C maj scale will work over Am.. Good job Jason! \m/ \m/
Thank you, brother Mike!
It would be great if you go over modes next
🤘
Still the easiest and best example.
🤘
Let's gooo
🤘
Not sure if you'll see this comment, but thank u so much. This made perfect sense.
🙏 🤘
It took me so long to wrap my head around this concept. Your explanation by far is the most understandable I've come across! Thank you so much. You just got yourself a subscriber!
Thank you and really glad to hear this helped!
Hey man I am a beginner and a have a lot of curiosaty about power metal how get the soud of power metal style?! greate job greate channel?! Don't have much people explore metal theme from begginer. Congrats!!!
Thank you!
I actually play around with C# Minor a lot, but I'm weird lmao
It's one of my (Jason, here) favorite keys to play in and I write a lot of acoustic music in this key as it allows for more open-string possibilities and full sound.
Hi, what determines the key if you are playing all six relative chords in the progression, is it the first chord you play in that progression
It could be. It’s the chord that feels like it “finishes” or lays the foundation. We call this the tonic
interesting to know the picking pattern of the part around 14:30....👍
Just some alternate picked rhythms. I like to mix the down picking and alternate picking for different parts of songs
@@metalmastermind wish i could pick like this
The mirror of 5ths/4ths decoding the circle after 300+ years with its universal mnemonic device is in alternative to the circle of 5ths for those who find the latter a bit hard to understand and memorize.
🙏 🤘
how do we use scales and circle of fifths to make a metal riff/song?
I don't know that I'd be concerned with making scales into a song because then you run the risk of your song sounding like everything else. Instead, explore different notes and patterns, and create your own by experimenting. Music theory is great and all, but it can also cause you to overthink the process.
To the left is a 4th. 5 to the right, 4 to the left.
🤘
I understand that going counter clockwise is fourths, clockwise fifths, count them.
Yes. The basic concepts of using this in a practical way is the point of the video
Nice Shirt
🤘
I was gonna thumbs up for "don't fret", but the video is at 666 likes and I don't wanna mess that up
😅 🤘
thank you for the lesson......was searching for using the circle in a metal setting....but please dont keep repeating stuff and show the chords on screen as u r playing for a better understanding
We have a blog post on this here if that helps more: metalmastermind.com/circle-of-fifths-explained/
It goes 4 in reverse boss
Thank you...I'm sure I missed a few things here and there but was really trying to simplify it.
it would be a lot more helpful if u show us the chords/notes as u play em ,on the screen
Will definitely consider that for future videos!
Nice work though
🤘
Oh man, I'm just noticing. You and I pick almost the exact same. I hold my pick with basically a reverse of others. Angling my pick more towards myself. But just kinda naturally rotate it parallel with the string when doing hard or normal playing and the upturned method when faster picking is needed. Gallops, tremolo, scale runs, etc. Care to make a video on your technique? I used to get discouraged that I didn't pick like others and thought it held me back. Then I watched Chris Poland play and realized it wasn't a limitation but maybe just my style. Don't fight it. Sorry for the random comment.
I actually have a video on my guitar channel here: ua-cam.com/video/uOQ4Ql-0RYI/v-deo.html
It looks like a pizza
Hungry now!!
This makes zero sense to me.
I would suggest re-watching the video and taking notes. And also pausing the video when you need to. Our generation has chosen to have an extremely short attention span. Set aside an hour or more to go through this, and also read some of the comments to see how it's help others...that may give you some motivation.
@@metalmastermind notes may help. I just didn't understand to be honest. My biggest confusion is being able to identify what note is what. I'm writing songs and I'll write an intro or something and I'm having trouble following them up or transitioning to them next part. Someone recommended I research this video.
