A lovely lesson and painting! But once again the idea that transparent paint is the only “true” watercolor paint. But, if it’s diluted with water it’s watercolor, right? whether casein, tempera, acrylic... I think back in time a respected person claimed this and everyone took it as gospel, but I just can’t find a good enough argument for this odd point of view.
Watercolour is a type of paint, it isn't any water-mixable or water-based paint. You are welcome to have your own definition, but the rest of the world understands watercolour to be a transparent pigment in a water-based solution. The word which describes what you are talking about is 'watermedia', which includes acrylics, watercolours, gouache, etc.
