The Weird World of Tucker Carlson Originals

  • Tucker Carlson Originals are a series of short "documentaries" on the Fox Nation streaming service. The was originally going to just be a look at The End of Men, but I decided it might be more interesting looking at the whole thing, and trying to make sense of it all.
I've done the best job I could to censor out some graphic imagery, so expect a couple of title cards blocking out specific scenes of that. If you want to watch the originals, please be aware that it gets incredibly graphic in certain parts.
00:00 - What is Tucker Carlson Originals and Fox Nation?

19:46 - The People Who Fight Back

This is a small thing-- but, I just wanted to say: I'm a detransitioned woman (FtMtF), and I support the right of people to transition, watch a lot of pro-trans content creators, etc. And I often feel alienated when the topic of detransition is brought up because creators have a tendency to brush it off, saying that the rate of detransition is too low to be worth consideration. So I was so happy when you noted that even though the rate is low, we still have needs that aren't currently met by the medical system, and that supporting resources for detrans people doesn't have to come at the expense of trans peoples' rights. So, thank you for being thoughtful in your commentary on the topic, José.

They brush it off because they know the right will us you against them, no matter your actual views, because reactionaries don't understand nuance, and if one person detransitions, then all of them secretly want to.

The fact is, much as the right pretend otherwise, their anti trans movement (I’d argue it’s the only movement, there’s no ‘pro trans movement’, just clinging to rights that already exist and wanting to just BE in safety) hurt detransitioners too. You want kids to not learn about trans people? Well guess what, you’re not just hurting trans kids, you’re making it far more likely that someone who isn’t trans, transitions out of confusion. Congratulations

As an FtM I'm really sorry that detransitioners are made to feel that way when your feelings and experiences are important no matter how low the rate is. I never see anyone bring the topic up ever and it's messed up imo

33:40 - HOLD ON, THAT TAPE THING IS JUST A SKETCH FROM FRIENDS!
There is an episode where Chandler tries to stop smoking via subliminal messages while sleeping, and by accident he gets a self-help confidence tape for women that keeps saying stuff like "you're a strong independent woman", and he starts acting more feminine without being able to explain why the next day
They're taking sitcom jokes from the 90's and claiming it as facts in their bizarre conspiracy

T.C.'s literally showing _gore._ "People being hit by cars, ... being murdered"?! And clearly a heck of a lot of it - framed in disingenuous ways, undoubtedly. (And José said as much.) He's right: it's all dishonest, facile, carefully-worded rhetoric backed not with facts but with shocking imagery, dramatic music, and quick editing, all meant to stir up emotions of fear, anger, outrage, and paranoia. El Salvador has for decades been the most violent regime in Latin America. Under the American backed dictator hundreds of thousands were killed. The most infamous case being a massacre at a church after a beloved bishop was murdered that killed over 5000 people which was captured on film.
El Salvador didn't become a police state, it never has been anything else. It really is just a question of who mainly commits the violence and under what justification.

Holy shit, the Uvalde drop shocked me. I just wrote a 40 page paper about how the response to the Uvalde shooting is a perfect case study of how police are designed not to protect victims, but to brutalize and enforce laws through force against people of color.
One of the noted problems with the response to Uvalde is that the cops in Uvalde put so much emphasis upon the dangers of illegal immigration, meaning schools were CONSTANTLY under lockdown. As such, they didn’t really know how to respond with haste to an ACTUAL disaster and were numbed to the idea that something bad could actually be happening. Watching Chief Arredondo describe how frequently they shut down the high school in Uvalde just further demonstrates this - these cops spent so much time criminalizing immigrants that they didn’t know how to respond to ACTUAL danger.
It’s like that episode of SpongeBob where he cleans his entire house before getting to his essay, the thing he ACTUALLY needs to do. The police state makes shit like immigration a crime so that they can enforce those laws and seem like they’re doing bc something. Meanwhile, the ACTUAL problem is right behind them sitting on the desk and they pretend it’s not there.

I'm so sick of the idea that kids are being forced to be trans and that people encouraging others to be themselves want literally everyone to be trans. I was forced to be cis. I was coerced into believing I was broken if I didn't feel like a woman. I needed to try harder to be happy as I was born. I didn't even KNOW what trans was for the longest time, so I just grew up idealizing that something was horribly wrong with me and I was doomed to be either a broken human being or a perpetually unhappy one. I found happiness in myself by realizing my true gender, as complicated as it can be for me. I wasn't coerced. Honestly, the person I learned about being trans from kinda dismisses my transness. I made this decision on my own, and I want everyone else to make their own choices about who they are. I don't want my partner to be trans because he is a cis man. If my agender friend wants to keep her body just the way it is, I want her to keep it that way.

The whole thing that really gets me about the “transgenderism is just a phase and we need to protect the kids!!!!” argument is that… so what? Kids go through phases, as a parent you should expect that. Even if we do grant that being trans is a phase (it’s clearly not), do you treat any other phase like this? I wouldn’t send my kid to conversion camp for being goth. I’m not Debbie from the Adams Family. You’d let your kid dye their hair and wear makeup and cut their own bangs and shop at hot topic because it makes them happy, even if they won’t do that forever. Even IF you actively want your kid to stop being trans (or goth in this analogy), because you hate seeing your kid happy I guess (great parenting buddy), trying to force them to suppress that phase will only make them hold onto it longer. If I took all my kid’s black clothes and threw them out, threw out all their makeup, and took them to get their hair “fixed” I’d just be making them do all that stuff but sneakier. They wouldn’t stop, because kids are kids and they’re going to do what they want, they’d just get better at hiding it. And most importantly, they’ll start to resent their parents. Point being, you shouldn’t have kids if all you want is moldable clones of yourself who never say no and never change.

I did some light research and found something interesting about that infamous "hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, weak men create hard times" meme the right loves just so dang much and treats as ancient wisdom.
It's not ancient wisdom. It's from an underselling 2016 postapocalypse book called Those Who Remain by one G. Michael Hopf, a guy who now posts COVID denialism on his Twitter. But it's as recent as 2016! The only reason it's popular is because of shitty memes from 2017 quoting it with random paintings of Rome falling made at least a millennium later by people who projected their own reactionary ideals onto an event they knew little about.
Like so many of these "ancient truisms" of the right, so many of these "classic traditions" it's ludicrously recent and nonsensical!

It's complicated as hell and there are good reasons for progressives/leftists to oppose it, and the project being headed up by CMP (rated year after year as the worst utility company in the country by its customers due to constant overcharging scandals, rate hikes, and atrocious outage records and services) basically meant it was always doomed from the start. It was big business versus big business competing for attention. maine has some of the lowest advertising costs in the country, so we were absolutely harrassed with campaign ads and literature, and i think most mainers understood what was going on, ultimately it was voted down by a landslide. Pretty wild to see how Tucker (who lives about 5 minutes from me, drives a rather beat up old truck to con the locals into thinking he's one of them, he is pretty popular around here) used the story to try and scare people across the country, thanks for covering it so well.

Either way, it didn't come as a surprise that they feed on a QAnon diet. At least now the rest of my mother's family can't take her seriously. The story of Latasha Harlins is crazy.
Accused of shoplifting before having the chance to stop by the counter. Got yelled at, put the bottle in question on the counter and was leaving the shop without taking any goods, when the yelling shopkeeper pulled a gun and shot the girl in the back of the head. The shopkeeper in court apparently did not show any remorse and claimed to have acted in self defense and that her life had been in danger. She still got off the hook for murder and was charged with five years probation for manslaughter.
    That's just nuts.

Though I would like to add that Soon Ja-Du was viciously beaten by Latasha Harlins; which is why Judge Joyce Karlin imposed the sentence in question. Judge Karlin however was extremely arrogant in her decision by explaining that she has the ability to know a criminal and who presents a danger to the community when she sees one but she treats them differently when she doesn't see a person as a criminal.
