This is one of the first tools I bought when I first started riding and working on motorcycles in the 70's. The way they tighten those Phillips head screws at the factory, Its tough getting them out without stripping the head. Done right, these loosen them right up with one hit.
I came across one of these tools in my dad’s old garage. I looked at it, saw came with heavy duty bit set and it itself felt heavy. Had it for a few years before researching and discovering how to properly use it. Neat innovation for its time, especially since I grew up in a time of powered impact tools and 18/ 20V cordless impacts were improving and becoming standard by my adult life.
I think in some applications the manual impact screwdriver is superior to impact wrenches and drivers, especially on screw heads. You get significant downward force locking the bit into thee screw at the moment of hammer impact. Little chance at slippage wrecking the screw head. Time saver when changing Honda brake rotors.
My father has had one of these for almost 40 years. My one of my best friends who was a mechanic, got tierd of him constantly borrowing his, so he gave him one for Christmas back in the 80's. I dunno if he uses as much now that he has a pneumatic and electric impact driver.
@@ballbby3775 i'd guess it creates greater tension in the direction you want to turn the screw in, so when the screwdriver turns it is more likely to be able to turn
