Saxons measured their fields by the 'chain' (the length of a team of oxen) and 'furlong' (furrow length): the sound of the cow-bell has always been part of "England's green and pleasant land" [2:00ff]. Which is some consolation given that I'll never be able hear 'Jerusalem' again without hearing those darned bells.
The use of the Steptoe & Son theme after the soprano sings “bring me my chariot of fire” (1:57) gave me a big smile. Works great as a segway to the cowbells!
The pitches were quantised to a key. Still very impressive bringing it all together, but there are things in place to make things go a little smoother. Love Bill Bailey btw, saw his dandelion mind tour live, really good stuff.
@transylvanian It's like when a pigeon lands on your TV antenna, or you have too much metal when you go through the airport. Last time I was frisked I started to dance. (BTW not a god idea in an airport.)
The middle section of this with the solo soprano is just extraordinary, from the theremin to the excellent transition into the new style. What a superb artist is Bill Bailey.
Gotta give a big thumbs up to Bill on this one, not many musician/comedians would have the balls to do a hymn on a big gala like this one...and do it justice and show it in a positive way!
Who is the gorgeous soloist on the right in the black dress --- shatteringly clear voice. Brilliant music by Bill - just imagine him teaching music at a music college.
Thats Florence Hvorostovsky, the widowed wife of the late baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky. One of the greatest operatic singers to come out of Russia, and possibly, to have ever lived. His legacy is lived on through her amazing singing. I believe she is good friends with Bill
And did those feet in ancient time Walk upon England's mountains green? And was the holy Lamb of God On England's pleasant pastures seen? And did the countenance divine Shine forth upon our clouded hills? And was Jerusalem builded here Among those dark Satanic Mills? Bring me my bow of burning gold! Bring me my arrows of desire! Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold! Bring me my chariot of fire! I will not cease from mental fight, Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand, Till we have built Jerusalem In England's green and pleasant Land.

I absolutely loved what I just heard. I have been starting and stopping writing diaries for 45 years and finally got around to writing a blog just this year. I have been writing many posts on Fb and friends were urging me to write a blog or a book, so i have started. Still have to be carefull what i write though as it is public.
The music teacher we all should have had
Bill is truly a mad scientist of comedy and music
He is truly amazing! Give the man a white coat :P lol

Spike Jones is smiling down from heaven.
There it is. The accurate description of Bill Bailey that has eluded me for years.
That's a great description.
This is definitely in my top 5 keyboard/cowbell/theremin renditions of Jerusalem.
definately in my top three and my collection is extensive.....
I'm in awe of this man. He's goofing about and understands music like no other.
The middle section with Bill playing the iPad to the singer's lovely vocals is just glorious
It's a digital erhu I think. Utterly ridiculous instrument, and one of the most beautiful sounds conceived bu humanity.
It really is. Just beautiful.
Drowned out the singer a bit, though.
Strictly bought me here. He's a bit of a genius, isn't he?
The use of the Steptoe & Son theme after the soprano sings “bring me my chariot of fire” (1:57) gave me a big smile. Works great as a segway to the cowbells!
The theremin in is meant to be the most difficult synthesised instrument to play. Fair dues to Bill Bailey for learning it
He's playing a theremini, which is kind of a theremin with training wheels.
@@Victoria_Lundy_Theremin I didn't know that. Looks like I learnt something new. I love learning new facts.

Every time I think he's gone as far as he can, he blows me away with something like this. Amazing sir.
I like to imagine Bill as a lecturer at some highbrow university and ripping up their rule book about how music should be taught.
"I don't hear enough RIP!"
Discipline and seriousness is also importance.

They'd deny it to their mates but 7/8 of the audience could have joined in.
Wow! I don't even know how to describe how awesome that was
That there are as many black singers as white makes me very happy! And Go Bill Bailey!

I was expecting to laugh, not almost be moved to tears, Bill, you mad mad mad man. That was great.

Honestly, have you ever heard such brilliance, right to the end with the gorgeous high voice.....incredible.
I believe Bill Bailey might be a genius. Talent, knowledge, humour. Very quick and insightful.
Nah....no doubt! Genius. ...
Bill did another great job, and a salute should go to the lovely choir who kept it all together as he changed styles and instruments.
That girl can sing.
Wow.
Not since the late, great, Roy Castle has there been someone with the talent to play so many instruments, and so well....
Someone give this man a musical to compose!
You can't help but love Bill. He is a true master of both comedy and music humor.
Wow so talented ! He did an amazing job I’ve seen him on talk shows but had no idea of his musical talents... excellent 👏👏👏👏👏
That was always my favorite Emerson, Lake, and Palmer song.
That was epic beyond imagination
It has happened. Sufficient cowbell has been achieved.
A very talented and entertaining Mr #BillBailey. Jerusalem be proud.
Him randomly playing the theremin completely irrespective of the melody is painfully underappreciated
Bill Bailey is joy in human form.
What a wonderful guy
Mother of god that was stunning, and hilarious!
What a super multi talented guy
Fantastic the Guys a genius.
Needs more cowbell.
Bruce Dickinson would not approve.

The singer behind the keyboard looks alot like Michael Clarke Duncan.
This has enough cowbell.
And the only cure for that is more cowbell.
Or less, I guess, but we don't talk about that option...
