Wrap an Inexpensive Tumblestone (Tumbled Gemstone) into a Wire Pendant, Free Tutorial by Jem Hawkes

  • For today's free wire jewellery tutorial, I'd like a share a technique I've developed especially for absolute beginners, to create a secure pendant for a tumbled gemstone.
    Many of us purchase tumbled gems when we begin our interests in jewellery or crystals or gemstones for healing; they are an affordable introduction to gemstones and can begin a lifelong love for nature's beauty.
    Tumbled gems, or tumblestones, are often unevenly formed, and I thought that they deserved their very own variation of a wire pendant cage, to accommodate their asymmetric nature.
    Happy New Year 2022, may it bring you that which will benefit you, may you be blessed with love and balance in your life. Jem xxx

    The BEST tutorial I've seen yet, and I especially appreciate your speaking about 'warming' those wires; not as complicated as I thought the construction would be and an elegant design to finish. I've got my top 5 to learn from, but you're the #1 spot. I have a lot of weirdly shaped tumble stones to play with and I'm off to try to do this. Thank you so much!

      I did it!! I finally sat down to make this and it worked! I've tried wrapping pendants twice before, with less than stelllar results. This time, the stone wa perfectly nestled in its cradle and my wire wraps actually look decent. I referred to one of your earlier tutorials for the bail and I was able to put my own spin on the design for the final result. I added some loops and a little swirl at the base of the baiil.
      Thank you so much for your attention to detail, Jem. I was able to follow you quite well and of course, there's always the pause and rewind features to stop the presses when I got a little behind. @@JemHawkes

      @@JemHawkes Thank you kind Jem for the tip. Yes, you're absolutely right, I have no feeling for wire - yet! But after writing this, I continued with left over wire from the bail and played around, just like you said in the tutorial. Made some swirls, trying to follow the shape of the stone. It looks a lot better now, I hid some ugly weaving and the stone is stuck safely. For a first try I'm quite happy with it, so thank you again. 😀

    Maybe it was a mistake to use an uneven stone for my first gem wrap but I am having a nightmare of a time with this. My results with the wire are nothing like the tutorials and I’ve made a mess of it all. This is not an easy thing to do.🤪

    • @JemHawkes
      @JemHawkes  11 місяців тому

      I think with wire wrapping, we are always learning (I know that I am), and we are also our own harshest critic. My ratio of end results that I like and keep is ... let's go with LOW ... for every piece I photograph to sell, there are a dozen (sometimes more) mangled messes that go in the recycle pot ... so please don't be discouraged. Please try again and be kind to yourself and your progress. There's no shame in cutting your gemstone free and starting again. Well ... if there is, then I am the MOST shamed, hah. Have a great day, and please know that my first tumble wrap was an obimination that was cut up. So was the second. Xxx
