hold on a second, I’m a 21 year old female, and I just finished watching episode 150 of My Hero Academia, after watching a 2 hour Naruto Shippuden recap (so i can finally finish the damn thing after watching all of Naruto) while getting a reccomendation from my brother to start watching jujitsu Kaisen. And yet, the demographic for all of these is apparently ‘young boys’ Help I got raised a tomboy so hard I switched anime genres 😂
I started with Death Note. Shonen, or at least my presumed idea of it, was why I didn't get into anime earlier lol. I used to think of them having cringy dramatic over the top action with goofy expressions and screaming, got that idea from the few clips I've seen of one piece and one punch man from friends. Of course, my misconceptions and shallow view got cleared as I expanded.
Shounen is technically demographic like shoujo Josei and seinen based on the magazine the series are published in more then the target audience. Since each has series that often uses similar genres/some genres are often in stories from that group we ended up clustering the genres and turning shounen shoujo seinen and jousei to summary for cluster of genres we like
Other than DBZ and pokemon which I watched as a kid and didnt understand what 'anime' was my first was Evangelion or Elfen Lied. Though it was Bleach that really dragged me into it proper.
The first manga I read was Pokemon Adventures, which is a kodomo (I'm pretty sure, anyway), though I did enjoy that it had a bit of a darker tone compared to the games.
a lot of people probably unknowingly started anime with pokemon or another kid's anime like beyblade. Like me! My official first anime that was not pokemon was One piece however.
It's an animated series made and originally distributed in Japan. I'm pretty sure that means its an anime. That'd be like saying Pokemon Adventures isn't a manga.
Fun fact: If your shonen list doesn't have Yu yu hakusho, Dragon ball z and Bleach in it, It should, by default. This is not an opinion, this is a statement. You watch My hero acedemia or One Piece after you watched above list anime or if you have free time.
@@SuperSky9 I know someone that fits that category, an old UA-camr I watched called Double4anime. I was an ignorant kid back then so I didn't see the red flags about the guy but even now that I kinda know about him and how shitty he was, he got me into Naruto and if not for I probably wouldn't be an anime fan at all, so I'm grateful for that
@@GreekShinobi223THIS! This is why the term "Narutard" was coined. Because you people have the thickest Nostalgial glasses in the anime community and I say that a DBZ fan. Berserk is really good if you can handle the source material content (ie SA), Vagabond is also super good if you don’t mind it being on hiatus every other day lol and Initial D is king!

I definitely did not start with shonen.
Same
#4 keikaku (translator note: keikaku means plan)
woah man thanks I didn't know
I started with Doraemon, a series belonging to the kodomo demographic for young children.
My 2nd series is shounen though, an old one, named Inuyasha.
Are you from India or Japan btw? (it's very popular in India and not very well known in the West
FYI, demographics like shonen don't determine content.

I started with Lucky Star somehow, because people memed the hell outta konata's antics back then
I was lucky, I started with Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, Cardcaptor Sakura, Cowboy Beebop, & Trigun.
a lot of people probably unknowingly started anime with pokemon or another kid's anime like beyblade. Like me! My official first anime that was not pokemon was One piece however.
I started with MHA and demon slayer, then suddenly watching glitter force for some reason.. then started watching watamote
I started with Danganronpa 😭
I started with saiki k on netflix and TECHNICALLY pokemon but im pretty sure noone knows if its an anime or not sooo...
Nah Pokémon counts

Well, the anime that got me into anime was Naruto so I guess it counts 🤷🏻
