The Finale of the of Last Operating Cantilever Mounted Searchlight In New Mexico

- Join us as we go trackside to see the last operating search light signal in New Mexico mounted on a cantilever signal on the New Mexico Department of transportation Albuquerque subdivision of the New Mexico rail Runner express (NMRX) . These searchlight signals built by the Union Switch and Signal Company have protected the movement of famed Santa Fe Trains such as the El Captain, Super Chief, Grand Canyon, California Limited and The Fast Mail. And today they stood by and watched over Amtrak’s Southwest Limited and later Southwest Chief on their journey between Chicago and Los Angeles. Under these signals steam locomotives such as Santa Fe 2926 and 3751 have once rolled, but never more as CTC controlled signals will now take over.
These iconic signals and towers once dotted the AT&SF mainline from Chicago westward across the midwestern expanse to the southwest as the line roars across Arizona and New Mexico
I Maintained that 9026 Signal, as well as all the Searchlights from old End Double Track Hahn at MP 897.8 up to East Siding Switch Isleta for 16 years from May 1982 through April 1998. It's good that the State Commuter line is replacing them and installing CTC through the Double Track former Rule 261-D Double Track, Single Direction Running ABS segment at AQ, but still, it's too much history disappearing for some of us oldtimers. It’s something sorely needed here, with all the movement of trains and the change or railroad from the 1940’s to today, it’s going to be a very welcome change.
I loved those Target Search lights signals of all signals that where out there those are my favorite signals of all times I will miss those signals And I don't like the signals that will replace them I hate those new signals you can see those Target Search Lights Signals on these Railroads and I know for sure and they are S P and. S S.W. And DRGW and Santa Fe and BN and WP and MKT and K C S and Milwaukee and SLSF and L and N and Southern and SCL
Also you can find the Target Search Lights Signals on the Boston and Maine and the Erie Railroad So I say on most of the Railroads in the U S A. Those are the railroads that will have them but that was back from early 1990 s on back to the 1980 s and 1970 s and further on back into the early years
