Happy to see you're making tutorials again!

I have a Lok programmer and several loksound 5 decoders and really like the tutorials. It is nice with consisting to be able to just tick a box on each loco to set up lights and sounds and things. I still sometimes struggle with getting speeds matched but that's another thing.

I was experimenting with this last night with a pair of Southern SD45 units from Scaletrains, and both headlights one each unit work even if I have each one setup so that just the long hood lights should light, and the short hood ones stay off, but if both headlights on a unit are set to stay off then they do just that.

@@SOU6900 While I have not played around with it too terribly much, I'm betting it has to do with the fact that there is also logic settings involved on a regular basis with the directional lights. Fore or backward combined with the consist settings might make it a bit tricky initially.
One thing I wanted to do at one point was if consist forward, then A unit front facing light and no other lights. If consist moving backward, B unit tail facing light and no other light. But it's more complex than it seems due to that logic on the headlight functions.

@@tvtoms I'm hoping one of the ESU gurus in the club I'm in may have an answer to this. ESU decoders are a new beast to me when programming. I'm more comfortable with programming Tsunami2 decoders on a digitraxx PR4.

@@SOU6900 Yeah good call. Also the ESU website and youtube channel have a lot of in depth videos including this sort of thing..
I think you'll find that if you call up the individual loco, then toy with the headlight logic before consisting them, it would likely be the way to do it, but I don't know yet myself.

I tried experimenting with this feature last night with a pair of my Southern SD45 units from Scaletrains, and in the process hit a snag with the headlights. With both units setup to run short hood to short hood, and the headlights configured just to work on the long hood ends, the short hood lights also work, but if I leave both boxes unchecked then the headlights for that unit work just as they're supposed to with both boxes unchecked.

    Great tutorial!
Just a thought, maybe make a video tutorial of actually doing the the CV changes live, for those who may not have the physical Lok Programmer, on the Cab Control and the ECoS. Also how to put the locomotive, after the CV's are written, into and out of the consist on each of the command stations.

Thanks for the video. Please do more instructin videos for the cab control

I noticed that the decoder/sound-file for engine #4, was not loaded into the programmer. Did this demonstration assume that the specific decoder/sound -file was loaded in after programming engine #3?

Hi Matt, are ESU decoders capable of programming automatic horn and bell features? Have the horn automatically blow once every time the locomotive stops, twice every time it moves forward and three times every time in moves in reverse. Have the bell sound every time the locomotive moves in reverse?
    Thanks
    Steve

Do both locos have to be "ON" the track at the same time, to program the consist ??

When setting up advanced consists with ANY DCC decoder you are writing to each loco separately first. After the Consist address is created they will both respond to the same Consist address number.

    Hello.
    I have a question.
How to Change the Direction of a Consisting. If it is to go the other way in relation to the horn, and bell. How to set it up?
Is there something about changing the function mapping on the rear locomotive so that the front does not say anything when the horn is pressed down on the rear or is there another way to do it?

With the NMRA consisting CV defaults this is not typically possible, but if you set the function mapping to be directional this could be done.
