I look forward to seeing you interview Cutter. I haven’t read anything by him yet, but he’s on my TBR. I heard The Troop is really good, but I’m not sure about body horror. I’m more about psychological horror.
I'm with you on psychological horror. That's my preference too. Sometimes I mix it up and Nick Cutter is good for that. The interview should be enlightening😃
I'll be picking up The Empusium ASAP. Sounds like Magic Mountain, only interesting. Thanks for the rec! (BTW, can you tell me where to get a copy of "Plow Your Bones"? I occasionally pick up erotica and it sounds interesting.) 😇
I can relate to being a walking zombie. Nothing really phases me. I need a jolt to the system sometimes. Nice Video. I've watched all your videos now, and I'm waiting for more!
I'm looking forward to your talk with Nick Cutter. I loved The Troop. I still need to read his other books. I pre-ordered Graveyard Shift & it should arrive today. I absolutely loved this author's If We Were Villains, so I hope I'm not disappointed by Graveyard Shift. I live in a rural area but still struggle with saying it🤣 I'm in south Alabama (USA) and we pronounce it "ci-CAE-da." I have heard people say "ci-CAH-da," too. I think either way is correct.
Nick Cutter’s stories haven’t been my jam, but I’m looking forward to the interview. A good interview can swing my reaction right around. The Hitchcock Hotel sounds intriguing. Graveyard Shift sounds like a great setup, at a minimum. I find real-life cicadas horrible enough. I guess I have to check out a giant one. Amusingly enough, a friend of mine got stuck a rural horror festival just last weekend. He got no giant bugs, though. The Empusium needs my attention too. Kill Your Darling is another interesting setup. I’m curious. Agreed about older protagonists; I’m too far removed for many tales of teens and young adults to speak to me. The Blood-Stained Doll is a darned classic title. And a good small-press recommendation is as helpful as a book or author recommendation. Thanks for the recommendations! They’ll make nice variety stirred in with my current weird fiction re/reading binge.
@@Michael_Wertenberg I’ve often had the experience of being tone-deaf to the appeal of a creator a lot of others enjoy, and sometimes of getting the right sort of key that opens up enjoying them for me. So I try to keep an open mind. And in general I like creators talking about their stuff. No reason to deny myself a simple pleasure. 👍🏼
Queen is on my list. I want to read Nat Cassidy's new book Rest Stop. Think it comes out in Oct. I dont know what else. Grave yard shift sounds good. I'm still in a bit of a slump, dont know why. Kisses for Z 😘❤️🐺
I'm familiar with M.L. Rio because I read her book If We Were Villains. Although it's highly rated on Goodreads, I liked it less than most readers. I'll be interested in your review.
At least you didn't mispronounce unearthed. I can't say that word right. I'm excited for The Bog Wife coming out October 1st. I picked up The Unmothers but haven't started it yet. It's about a journalist investigating a horse that gave birth to a human child.
The Bog Wife sounds promising. From Goodreads: "a haunting invocation of the arcane power of the habits and habitats that bound us." That's a nice turn of phrase😃"a horse that gave birth to a human child." That sounds familiar. Or maybe I'm just thinking of my bus ride to work.
Agree with you about the pronunciation of homage. And I see some kind soul mentioned the McLeod thing (I learnt the "correct" pronunciation back in 1986 watching The Highlander). I read a Nick Cutter novel about mercenaries & a Jim Jones-like christian cult leader (the title escapes me), but was unimpressed - looking forward to your interview of the author to get more insight into his writing... Perhaps I'm missing something.
Have you read The Grip of It by Jac Jemc? It's probably a bit more creepy than scary, and maybe I've already recommended it to you? How about I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman? It's terrifying and horrific and may be my favorite book this year. Keith Rosson's Fever House's sequel The Devil by Name is out, and both books got blurbs by Stephen King if you can believe that! Last year's Booker Winner, Prophet by Paul Lynch is also terrifying -- I was literally shaking reading it. If you want to experience the horrors of parenthood, and how absolutely insane it can make you, try Soldier Sailor. 😵💫
Both The Grip of It and I Who Have Never Known Men are on my TBR. (They've been on it for a while; I should really get to them soon.) I'm putting The Propher Song on there as well. Thanks. From the blurb, Soldier Sailor might be too intense for me. But it's on my radar. Thanks😀
It is odd that people don't realize that words are pronounced differently in different parts of the world. The shortwave press series has been fun. They read like cheesy 80s horror. oh shit, Now I DO have to help you with the pronunciation of the author's name Clay McLeod Chapman. McLeod sounds like McCloud. I learned this the hard way as there is a street near me called Mcleod and got some weird stares and a laugh when I said it. Quite a few of these are def. on my radar.
Ordered the Nick Cutter book because Cutter is a GOD! He falls into the same category as Barker, King, Hill, and Jackson. I'd love to know what book set him on his long, weird trip as a horror writer. For Stephen King, it was the Incredible Shrinking Man. If you enjoyed Cutter's the Troop and Lord of the Flies, allow me to recommend The Grace Year by Kim Liggett - it's like the show Yellow Jackets meets Psalms of Herod//Sword of Mary.
suh-kay-duh The Empusium. Don't Let the Forest In (C.G. Drews) Oct 29th. I would never correct a person's pronunciation. I just listen. Best of luck with the interview.
I used to work at "Rural Sourcing" and I sounded like a damn idiot everytime I tried to tell someone. Where do you work? "Ruwool sowcing"
🤣😂
The art work on the bloodstained doll is superb xx
Yes! I expect to receive my copy in the mail any day now. I'll be proudly showing it off in an unboxing video when it comes!
@Michael_Wertenberg lucky you xx
Check out Laird Barron...He's in another realm
Laird barron has been on my TBR for ages. Thanks for the reminder😃
I look forward to seeing you interview Cutter. I haven’t read anything by him yet, but he’s on my TBR. I heard The Troop is really good, but I’m not sure about body horror. I’m more about psychological horror.

😅Yeah, I earned that🤣
Can't wait for a new Nick Cutter book and interview, this is the first I've heard about it.
😁
I can relate to being a walking zombie. Nothing really phases me. I need a jolt to the system sometimes. Nice Video. I've watched all your videos now, and I'm waiting for more!
Thanks for the support and encouragement!😊It's true that I haven't been producing as regularly as i used to. But I'll get back on it!😊
All of these are on my TBR. Oh and I can't pronounce rural either. 🙄 Give little Z a hug and and a boop for me. 😻
😁😽

😁We'll compare notes (though it appears you will get to it before me). I'm currently reading Full Immersion based on your recommendation...
@@Michael_Wertenberg I hope you are enjoying Full Immersion.

Yeah, Rest Stop sounds fun. I hadn't heard of that author or that book. Thanks for getting them on my radar😻
@Michael_Wertenberg Mary by Cassidy has had good reviews, it's supposed to be pretty messed up 😃📚

@@Michael_Wertenberg That's the one! Thanks. 🖖

Thanks for the question. I'll be sure to ask him. And thanks for the rec. I hadn't heard of that one.
Check out Dario Argento.
I've tried. I can't seem to make it past the first 15 minutes😌My attention span for movies is terrible.
