This car's interior is beautiful. Love the faux wood finish on the dash and the bucket seats with console mounted floor shifter. The exterior of the car is fantastic as well. This one looks sportier without the padded vinyl roof that was ordered on many of these 2 door Bonnevilles.
I learned to drive in my father's '79 Bonneville. Claret exterior with vinyl tan interior. Olds 350 with Rochester Quadra-Jet. Posi-Traction rear-end with the stiffest suspension offered. The Achilles Heal of the Olds 350 was the cast aluminum rocker retainers. I miss that car.
I can only truly hope this late model classic remains intact today and is still driven on dry clear days and nights. Took decades for them to reach the bottom of the depreciation curve. Now try finding one for what they cost new in fair condition.
That one build to be very nice car , and guess what it's , nice to be in that condition , looking for something like it from that era. Have a good one - from ku 👍
It's got the crappy Buick 350 motor. The Olds 350 was the best engine you could get in 1979. 301's were weak too. Other than that, this car is super awesome!!! I remember these when they were brand new. My dad was a Pontiac dealer.
Could be had with a Pontiac 400, detuned as it was by then. Still a smooth, quiet, torquey engine. I can't speak to the others, but Pontiac engines of this era were painted blue. They also had the same basic external dimensions, regardless of the cu in. Yes, the 301's were weak. Smooth as silk, but just barely enough power. They made a unique noise, unmistakable from anything else.
JGG11 '78 was the last year for the 400. Very sad. I could tell it was a Buick 350 because the distributor is in the front of the engine. From '77-'82, almost all GM engines were painted sky blue.
Shawn McCulley my first car was a 79 Bonneville coupe with a Buick 350 very good engine btw never left me on the side of the road ever mine had the 2.41 gear and leaving it in drive and floor it thing will do 70 mph in low gear my brother got a ticket in it once trooper asked him before I write this ticket whats under the hood I been running you 15 miles and I couldn't get close enough to tell what color this car was lol 155 HP and 290 ft lb of torque at 1300 rpm
I have thought the same thing. This care is just so beautiful, and still after all these years, that shows the test of time. Current styling is just okay, but like you say, those styling designing's and todays technology, would be perfect!
@@davidhmurphy1619 i put 95,000 miles on mine in 18 months, it was my company car..... changed oil and one brake job that was it..... the 400 was a dream ride

In the eye of the beholder ladies and gentlemen. That being said I love the 1979 and last memorable 301 powered Bonneville.
We had one growing up and everyone always knew when we were leaving or coming home. Dragged that bumper going up the driveway every time 😂
Love the rims and the plastic wood on the dash in these cars looks very realistic....

I always liked the sportier versions of these cars. The console shift, snowflake wheels, full instrumentation, fender skirts, moonroof. Really nice.
Fender skirts not needed all else is great 👍🏻

this is what we should be driving today that is technology what we're driving today is crap with technology
@Black Buick yes you are right and the seats where you sit on or your butts it's so uncomfortable no cushion.
Cool Car
Why don't you do a walk around, engine size, transmission, miles, price?
imagine driving a Lincoln Mark 5 with today's technology fuel injected engine Percy a 4.6 V8 6 speed transmission awesome no problem
I had a 79 catalina. Dual exhaust and glass packs.
all the United States has to do is bring back the old model cars with today's technology fuel inject engine that's all
Exactly..! Oldies and goodies...

Won't happen. Everyone wants an SUV or a pickup truck to be king of the road. The days of cruising around in your land yacht are long over.
