  • China has unveiled an ambitious plan to build a fleet of thorium-powered mega ships, sparking curiosity and interest among experts and the general public alike. Thorium, a radioactive metal, has long been touted as a potential clean energy source due to its low emissions and high energy output.
The Chinese government has been investing heavily in thorium technology in recent years, and this latest announcement is seen as a major step forward in their efforts to become a leader in the field. The mega ships, which could be used for both commercial and military purposes, would be powered by molten salt reactors (MSRs) that use thorium as a fuel.
MSRs have several advantages over traditional nuclear reactors, including improved safety, lower costs, and the ability to use thorium as a fuel source. The technology is still in the development stage, but China's state-owned China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) has already begun testing MSRs on a small scale.
The plan to build thorium-powered mega ships is part of China's broader strategy to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and transition to cleaner sources of energy. The country has already made significant investments in renewable energy, including wind and solar power, but thorium represents a potentially game-changing technology that could help China achieve its ambitious climate goals.
China's leadership in thorium-powered ships underscores its commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection. By spearheading the development and deployment of this technology, China is not only positioning itself at the forefront of a technological revolution but also setting an example for other countries to follow in the pursuit of a cleaner, more sustainable shipping industry and global energy landscape. This new thorium will change the future of nuclear powered navel vessels and potentially smaller navel ships may get thorium powered capability and that change the military landscape. This is exciting tech!

China has a developmental thorium MSR operating in the Gansu Desert since late 2022. China has given the go ahead to begin building a larger reactor starting in 2025 with completion in 2029. It looks like this synchs well with China's effort to power merchant and naval ships with thorium MSR.

Higher efficiency because of much higher temperature, lower weight because it doesn't need pressurized water, so lacks the pressure vessel.

China will definitely put this Thorium based power plant in its naval ships and that would be a groundbreaking military advancements and really makes the US extremely worried.

the last thing the US should be worried about is this Chinese thorium technology.. the US should be worried about the coming collapse of their own free money printing economy.. the end is very near..

China’s experiment on thorium based nuclear energy production has most probably given promising results because otherwise she would not plan building ships using thorium as fuel. The experimental thorium reactor has been built in the desert sometime ago and there should be some reports on the results. Perhaps someone could report on the status of this experimental reactor rather than producing videos on the benefits of thorium reactor.

China hv disclosed the success of it first pilot project of it experimental thorium nuclear reactor at Gobi Desert.
On top of this China also have recently given the green light for the building of it first thorium based molten salt nuclear reactor at Gobi Desert. This is true thorium based nuclear reactor and not an experimental one. The reactor set to be completed and operational by year 2029.

Thorium power plants are still a very long way from practical operations. You cannot extrapolate a test sytem in the desert to a fleet of ships.
