    I love how the dolphins always seem to be there to welcome you to a new country or island group…

    This was nice to watch. I started watching you two when you helped an older man try to get his medications. I was hooked ever since.

  • @edrosenberger6947
    @edrosenberger6947 6 років тому +90

    You two followed thru on a big goal and you did it well. Traveling around the country in a motorhome from state to state is an insignificant feat compared to sailing vast distances to other countries.....and you did it without burning up a bunch of fuel! Very few people ever get the chance to have such an outstanding adventure.....you guys reached far out and grabbed that elusive brass ring, and it is paying off, big time!!

    • @RickMartinYouTube
      @RickMartinYouTube 6 років тому +2

      How long are they staying? Guess return trip will be. Just as adventurous?

    • @edrosenberger6947
      @edrosenberger6947 6 років тому +4

      There are many beautiful islands and atolls around that area, so they may stay awhile. I think they will probably continue on southwestward to New Zealand, Australia and on to who knows where......

    • @gosman949
      @gosman949 6 років тому +2

      I bet they will sell the boat before going through that again!

    • @edrosenberger6947
      @edrosenberger6947 6 років тому +3

      They mostly went thru boredom. If they spend time in the Far East, most passages would only be two or three days and some at one week max between stops......they can now do that standing on their heads ;-).

      thanks Ed, didn't even think of those possibilities...

    Your starter isn't bad, if it was it wouldn't turn the engine over. It's your solenoid that's gone caput. Good idea to keep a spare onboard, ie, order two, one to replace the bad one & an extra. A minimal engine spares kit for passage making (especially with two engines) would include that plus a a spare water pump, fuel pump, an injector or two, a box full of impellers, belts & engine zincs. I've done that passage & many others & used all of the above!
    Congrats on completion on your biggest passage! Now you can enjoy the rewards.

    • @LTVoyager
      @LTVoyager 6 років тому +3

      Mike Phillips What is an engine zinc?

    • @megatron37
      @megatron37 6 років тому +2

      sacrificial anode that's bolted to the motor to keep it from corroding.

    • @mikephillips9311
      @mikephillips9311 6 років тому +6

      @@LTVoyager It's a zinc rod that usually is threaded into a brass plug. Then that plug screws into the engine block/heat exchanger or one or more other locations within the engine that accomodate the flow of raw seawater through the block, the purpose of with is to eliminate or at least reduce electrolysis within the engine. Marine engines are designed for the location of at least one of these, older designs may have as many as three. Failure to replace these as needed can result in the eventual damage or loss of critical engine components.

    • @LTVoyager
      @LTVoyager 6 років тому +2

      Mike Phillips Thanks. I know about those in water heaters, but never dealt with a salt water cooled engine before.

      Its the relay. I have same emgine. It does this once in a while. It is not a expensive fix. I had 15,000 hours on my 2006 yanmar 4 jh4e. It would only happen when you need it most. But its a 1 minute jump w screw driver.

    I know how it feels! After 51 days alone in Antarctica and not seeing anything but ice, it was so overwhelming to finally see the Amundsen Scott station on the horizon. When I saw the part where you were making out the outline of land on the horizon it just reminded me of that day. Really is impossible to explain how awesome it is to see the faint outline on the horizon.

    It's been fun to follow along and see what it takes for a couple people of ordinary means to go from no experience to successfully sailing across the Pacific in their own boat. I'd say having the right partner for the journey might be the biggest requirement, but determination, smarts, positive attitude, and uh, "Curiosity" are all required qualities as well.
    What a wonderful accomplishment!
    I'm looking forward to seeing more as your journey continues.
    Safe travels.

    I like to fathom just how much sailors were in-the-moment and "reading" the signs in the sky, clouds, and waves... as they navigated the earth in the days before radar & GPS. Truly amazing that anyone ever had the fortitude to sail out to where one could see no land, and keep going night and day... into literally The Great Unknown. Thanks for sharing your routes with all of us landlubbers.
