Here's a glance at heat levels for some popular hot peppers, according to the Scoville scale:
      Mild (100 to 2,500)
      Medium (2,500 to 30,000)
      Hot (30,000 to 100,000)
      Extra Hot (100,000 to 300,000)
      Extremely Hot (above 300,000)
      Ghost Extremely Hot (over 1,000,000)
Habanero Extra Hot (100,000 to 300,000)
      Tabasco Hot (30,000 to 50,000)
      Cayenne Hot (30,000 to 50,000)
      Jalapeño Medium (2,500 to 5,000)
Poblano (Ancho) Mild (1,000 to 2,000)

It’s the Native American influence on the state. The majority of New Mexicans have Pueblo Native American ancestry and the cuisine is largely a fusion of Spaniard colonialists and native Americans who now call themselves Hispanos (who still reside in the state as a majority ethnicity).
That’s where south western cuisine comes from.

Tip: milk (and milk products) are best at getting rid of spicy flavors... The milk replaces the spices on your tongue and blocks them from the receptors on you tongue, thus reducing the spice level.... Other liquids just spread it around and non-liquids just remove a small amount at a time.

    • @Jacy320
      @Jacy320 13 днів тому +1

Prince's used to have 2 Nashville locations and in 2018 the original had a car drive through the building. It was damaged enough that it never reopened. The one in the video is in Antioch and now there are 3 other smaller locations open as well.
I've had the hottest level of hot chicken and it was tremendously painful, but I couldn't stop eating it, it's that good. The next day I was ruined and couldn't leave the house.

Generally if you're hearing "hot chicken" or anything else specifically labeled hot, expect it to burn at both ends. Especially if it's a place known for spicy food. Burns going in, and coming out. 9:52 yes that's an actual thing.

Massive Tip if you do a spicy challenge. DON'T drink any alcohol or acidic drink (like soda) while eating. It makes it way worse. Get milk, water, or ice cream. Honey is a good cleaner as well. Get a bit of honey swish it in your mouth then spit it out.

Jalapeño peppers are typically between 2,000-8,000 SHUs on the Scoville scale.
“On the Scoville Rating Scale, cayenne pepper (used in Nashville hot chicken)is rated typically anywhere from 30,000 to 190,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU). So you do the math, eh? I'm not sure how concentrated the xxx hot might be....
For reference, Out of the three Nandos Peri-Peri sauces, the medium sauce is the mildest (estimated to rate at around 300 Scoville Units), the extra hot the spiciest (estimated to rate at around 20-35,000 Scoville units.

Remember the USA has bred the two hottest peppers in the world. Because the ghost pepper wasn't hot enough an American came up with the Carolina Reaper, but that wasn't hot enough for him so he came up with Pepper X. Pepper X has a median score of 2,690,00 Scoville Heat Units, the Carolina Reaper has a median score of 1,900,000 Scoville Heat Units, & you Jalapeños have a median score of only 5,250 Scoville Heat Units.

15:50 Now's probably a good time to say that, in the US, a lot of restaurants like to include "challenging" dishes, such as EXTREMELY spicy or HUGE portions of food, because it's considered a wow factor. If a place has something interesting on their menu like that, the place can gain traction through people going in to beat said "challenges". So even if people don't order the XXX hot tenders regularly, they still keep it on the menu in case someone (like the British men from Jolly lol) come in and wanna test their spice tolerance.

What determines a person's spice tolerance?
Allan Capin via Cleveland Clinic, "Some people are naturally more tolerant of spice because of genetics. They are just born with fewer receptors for capsaicin, which gives them a built-in tolerance for heat." Receptors can change over time as well, making it possible to build a higher tolerance for hot and spicy foods.

My wussy-pants European/Scandinavian DNA says "Nope" at anything stronger than a jalapeño, and the fewer of them the better for me. I can't hack anything more than a little tingle. I have zero desire to build a "tolerance." There are plenty of other things to eat in this world, I can leave the Scoville units to all those who genuinely are able to enjoy them. Bon appetit, heat lovers, I shall leave you to your fiery pleasure and admire your fortitude from a distance. Have at it, I'll just be over in a corner eating raw sushi. 😂
